The Binding of Isaac is an indie roguelike game developed by Edmund McMillen. It follows the story of a young boy named Isaac, who, after being told by his mother that she must sacrifice him to prove her faith, flees into the depths of the basement. As players control Isaac, they navigate through various procedurally generated dungeons filled with grotesque enemies, bizarre items, and challenging bosses. The game is heavily inspired by themes from the Book of Genesis, with a dark, surreal atmosphere that sets the stage for its unique gameplay. Throughout the game, players will discover a multitude of items that alter Isaac's abilities, allowing for diverse strategies and playstyles. As players progress, they encounter other characters, each with their own unique traits and capabilities, adding further depth to the gameplay experience. With every run being different, players are encouraged to explore, experiment, and adapt, making for an exciting and often unpredictable adventure.
Positives

Nice Challenge: The game excels in providing a balanced challenge. From the moment you descend into the basement, the enemies become progressively tougher, yet the mechanics are intuitive enough for newcomers. The difficulty ramps up in a way that feels fair, rewarding players for their skill and strategy.
Addictive Gameplay Loop: One of the standout features of The Binding of Isaac is its addictive gameplay loop. Players are often driven to try "just one more run," as each session offers new experiences and surprises. The permadeath mechanic ensures that failure is part of the journey, making victories feel incredibly satisfying.
Variety of Playstyles: The sheer number of items, power-ups, and character abilities allows for a wide range of playstyles. Whether you prefer a more aggressive approach, focusing on high damage output, or a strategic method that emphasises survival and resource management, the game accommodates all types of players. The item synergies can lead to some truly unique builds, making every playthrough feel fresh.

Negatives

No Fullscreen Mode: A notable downside is the absence of a fullscreen mode. While this may seem like a minor issue, it can detract from the immersive experience, especially for players who prefer to be fully absorbed in the game world. The windowed mode can feel restrictive, particularly on larger screens.
Minor Visual Bugs: Throughout my gameplay, I encountered some minor visual bugs that occasionally disrupted the experience. While these bugs are not game-breaking, they can be distracting and take away from the polished feel of the game.

Conclusion
In conclusion, while The Binding of Isaac may not be perfect—no game truly is—it offers a captivating mix of challenging gameplay, an addictive loop, and a rich variety of playstyles that keeps players coming back for more. The minor visual issues and lack of fullscreen mode are overshadowed by its engaging mechanics and unique atmosphere. I wholeheartedly RECOMMEND this game to anyone looking for an intense and rewarding experience in the roguelike genre!

A fun, classic, well ported to steam roguelike, difficulty is 8/10, a bit hard due to the lack of characters and how decently difficult it is to unlock them, gameplay is a 9/10, very fun but a bit repetitive once your good at it, art style is a 10/10 Very unique and appealing to me and many other people. So in conclusion my total rating is 8.75/10. TLDR very good game 8.75/10.

I started with Afterbirth+ on PS4, it was great to go back to the original flash version and see the differences. The original vibe, visuals and soundtrack make it worth it to check out if you're a fan of Isaac and started later on like me.

This game was my very first Steam purchase, and my introduction to roguelikes/lites, now a personal favorite. While I do think Rebirth + its expansions is the superior version (except maybe minus the music), I'll always love this one and what it symbolizes in my gaming journey.

it's a very enjoyable game, I can't name a single thing I dislike. It's really fun to see how far you can go before dying and unlocking new characters is really fun too! I love the art and the grimy nature of the game overall, and I love the story, I'm hoping to beat it soon! I highly recommend this classic :)

The game's got an incredible replay value, thanks to the shitload of items and upgrades available, all the different unlockable characters, all the great bosses and secrets to uncover, the dark and unsettling lore and story, and all the alternate endings. It's a very challenging game, even frustrating at times, as it can feel almost impossible (some of the final bosses are really tough, and you really need to memorize their attack patterns), but it's a really great game if you take your time to learn it. The art-style is grotesque, and the atmosphere is oppressing, but these things combined work well with the somewhat bleak world and characters. Given the game's roguelike nature, RNG can sometimes fuck you big time, and some runs kind of feel doomed from the start; other times you get fucked towards the end, but there's always something new to find or to unlock, so no run feels completely wasted. My only real complaint with this version is that at times the performance is kinda shit as the game lags/feels unresponsive at times (maybe because it was made in Flash, not really sure), and you can die due to stuff out of your control. Still, The Binding of Isaac's a classic and really worth the price.
From the gameplay point of view this game is outstanding. Rogue like with dozens of random items with various unusual effects and multum of enemies. Each run is different I mean seriously, levels, items and monster placement are random generated. Controls are simple but works as they should. Big negative for repulsive visuals that resembles some terrifying doodles from abducted by monsters child that wanted to tell the story of his life.
