To keep this short and sweet- if you saw the trailer from 2017 and then played the final product you would see just about everything in the trailer that made it drip with 80's coolness and nostalgia is NOT even in this game. I backed it on Kickstarter because of the trailer and my level of disapointment is beyond this review. Go check out that trailer and then ask yourself if you want to support a business who pulls a bait and switch.

Very pretty, great music, and nice story/world lore.

I really don't hive time to spare on this kind of junk - one of those 'we have a cool aesthetic, so buy our game because it's completely devoid of substance otherwise' games. Seriously, I don't think this game has anything going for it other than the visuals and the music, which are a lot of fun. Here is a rapid fire of the issues: sloppy controls, sloppy combat, confusing level design, constant talking, incomprehensible story full of made up words just to sound sophisticated, waste of time segments with super slow movement and constant talking, you can't tell the floor from a pit in many rooms, pretentious slop story, flat combat, boring enemies, doors that you can walk through that don't take you to the next are until you walk back through them and hit 'up,' highly specific interaction zones that don't play nice with the movement controls, and zero punishment for death or failure. Need I say more? I encountered a game breaking bug apparently about 30 minutes in (it felt like an hour) where the door I needed to open to progress opened, but I couldn't go through it. I thought something was wrong on my end so I explored everywhere I could to make sure that was the one path. After watching a walk through, it was! So I was hard locked from progressing even after leaving and returning to the area and rebooting the game. I am not willing to sit through 30 minutes of boredom again just to hope that door works and even if it does, this game feels so terrible to play, I'm not sure how far I'd make it beyond anyway. I've never played a 2D platformer that's taken such a slap ship approach to controls before. Unacceptable.
