Gameplay Mechanics: 7/10 Narrative: 6/10 Graphics: 7/10 Sound and Music: 8/10 Replayability: 7/10 Innovation: 8/10 Age of Empires III hits different when you grew up with it. There’s a wave of nostalgia every time the main menu music kicks in, or when you hear the thunk of a settler chopping wood. For a lot of us, this was the game that pulled us deeper into RTS—and revisiting it now feels like flipping through a well-worn strategy guide from childhood. Gameplay mechanics are solid, though definitely a departure from AoE II. The introduction of the Home City system, shipment cards, and gunpowder units gave the game a faster, more tactical feel. Some of the balance feels a little off compared to other entries, but it’s still a blast to build up, boom, and crush your enemies. Score: 7/10. Narrative is fine—not amazing, but passable. The fictional story that spans generations of the Black family adds some structure, with decent variety across missions and historical flavor along the way. Score: 6/10. Graphics were a leap forward back in the day, and they still hold up pretty well in the Definitive Edition. Cannon fire, naval battles, and map detail give the game a clean, dramatic look. Score: 7/10. Sound and music are still great. The music evokes that colonial era energy perfectly, and the voice lines and sound effects carry a lot of that childhood memory magic. Score: 8/10. Replayability is decent. Plenty of civs to choose from, custom card decks, different strategies to explore, and both single- and multiplayer options keep it from getting stale. Score: 7/10. Innovation deserves credit. The Home City mechanic, unit shipment system, and combat evolution brought new ideas to a genre that could’ve easily stayed stuck in the medieval age. Score: 8/10. Bottom line: AoE III might not be the best in the series, but for many of us, it’s packed with nostalgic charm—and once you get back into it, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.

I've always been a fan of this game. It's the first RTS game I've ever played. Though I wish my PC was better so I can truly enjoy this game. Anyways if you enjoy classic Real time strategy games like this I highly recommend this game.

Despite this game is 2007 year, it plays very good. It runs on very low PC and integrated video card, so it will fit great for laptops. "Deifinitive Edition" has more nations, more units, more national cards, and is free with 3 nations rotation every month, but at the same time, original game is cheaper and more affordable.
