If you comparing this with Rimworld, then I'lll just giving out what is better, the same, and worse than it.
-Better
1. 3D!
By the mean 3D is not just you can build a floor on top or lower of each other.
It has a functional 3D path finding, Light and temperature that goes in 3 dimension.
You can also gain advantage when shooting bow from a higher altitude.
2. Water
The water follows the flow from higher to lower altitude. You also need to dig the ground to actually use ground water with a well. However, all water are shallow water. Everything can just swim over it.
3. Structure needs structural stability
This will give you more immersion when playing the game. Sure there is something like this at Rimworld, but you can't build beam structure there. Also underground will actually looks like a mining shaft or something thanks to those beams.
4. In general, game textures are a lot better than Rimworld.
Also you can adjust the texture and model of your building section without the need to dismantle them.
5. Tree planting is better here. You can order to reap at a certain maturity instead of just waiting them mature.
This, you can use to weed out unwanted vegetation, to reap sooner, or to farm the sapling. Also, a new tree will grow near to a preexisting tree for a bit realism.
6. If you like the idea of Medieval Rimworld, this is it. But if you don't, you kinda missing the high techs.
7. You can also view the game as kind of Stronghold. It has tools that allows you to build a castle, including the moat, the trap, the archer tower, the slit windows for archer. You can use fire source near to your archer to allow them to fire, fire arrow. A killbox zone, floor with holes, door with holes. Ya you can fire from the higher floor to down below. Also oil trap to complement your fire arrow.
8. Pets are a bit easier to control, since you have more control whether they should do something like attacking, or hauling. I believe that i must define zones to deny them entering certain area at Rimworld. Easier but less specific on what they can.
9. Dummies to train your colonist combat prowess. Better than forcing them suicidal in combat with a low skill.
10. The game can recycle a lot of things better than Rimworld. Like animal dung as fuel brick. Energy source is a lot easier to come by, even if you don't have access to solar, wind, and nuclear.
11. The game IMHO is a lot more efficient despite its more complex nature, and better rendering.
Ryzen 7600, 32GB RAM DDR5, RTX3060Ti
Large map, 8 colonist, A lot of chickens, Cows, Goats, Sheeps. 6 story building, 3 level underground, and the rest above ground. Sizeable farming zone. A large fortress. 43K raw materials, and maybe around 40K everything else combined.
My fps range from 11-30, but if i save and load the game, it will go 40-45. No mods installed.
I think i set the game at high setting, so the fire, rain effects are spectacular. Sometimes I can see angel stairs when the rain subsides. Oh, and by I mean i have many livestock, i never cull the population. They keep breeding until the pen is too cramped for them.
Do i wish it runs faster? Yea, but to the context comparing to the Rimworld, i think Going Medieval took less PC resources. Could be wrong, just my opinion.
-The same
1. It shares the same basic concept of game play. Like in a new game you started with a certain number of colonist, then starting to dig, chop, and build basic structures. Research and expand.
2. There also raids, and wild animals that you can tame.
3. Alien settlements outside your territory you can visit.
4. Cattle instead Muffalo
5. Your colonist needs food, proper heating, proper equipment
6. Cannibalism, Religion
-The worse
1. Your colonist doesn't have face. Means, they're not as expressive as Rimworld. They still do however, creating emotes.
2. There's no drama between colonist. They kinda empty of personality, other than their traits and background story.
3. The same No.3 above has limitation. Like you only can go one way trip to other settlement then go home. You can't travel around freely just like Rimworld. However, creating a caravan IMHO is a lot faster here.
4. Still connected to No.3, there are other factions. But personally i think diplomacy isn't an option yet. It is very difficult to balance their favor. And I still can't see why should I appease them at all.
4B. You can't raid enemy faction settlement. So they will permanently on the world map.
5. Either IDK how, or not yet implemented, but my colonist can't have a child. But they're getting older. Losing one of your best, will be fatal. I mean, in Rimworld the child inherit some of the parents traits.
6. Mod selection isn't as rich as Rimworld. Idk maybe if you play this game it will increase...
7. Has no proper explanation to make a specialized room. Like how to make a great hall, library, etc. It is not listed at the help menu. Like the need to make them is more pronounced here than in the Rimworld. Some kind of activities cannot be started until you made a proper room. Ofc you can just ask at the discussion or by googling older posts, but still, it should be properly documented.
8. No vampire, no Cthulu; No Cybernetics because this is medieval duh.
9. You can't just throw unwanted items to the water to dispose them. As you can't make a zone on the water. Items do has faster break down speed on water but I just can't see how to reliably making the water as decomposition tool.
10. No organ transplant, if you're into it.
-Else
1. Controlling the 3D sometimes quirky. Especially when the room made with earth structure. Like they won't be regarded as a proper room above the ground. The ceiling will obstruct what is inside the room.
Then if you want to just delete a certain beam, they can be finnicky. Like you must set delete one room only, select wall only, then select an empty floor at the same space as the beam.
2. I feel the game is a lot easier when compared to Rimworld. This can be a good or bad depends on you.
I feel that the food is a lot easier to came by. Hazards aren't so often, no dramas. This is not a problem to me tho.
3. Initially i would write that it is harder to make a freezer, however, foods are easier to get, so..
4. Low barricade and water wont bar predators to enter your territory. Instead you have to use torch, any other light sources, or a high wall. Also if you don't want your pet to enter your food storage, it kind of difficult, since you can't zone them. But then again, during my previous play through, food is easy to come by.
5. Torches, candles, are must be periodically resupplied with fuel. While the fuel are plenty, your colonist has to move back and forth to maintain them. Torch and candles strangely doesn't produce heat.
6. You don't have dirty floor issue like the Rimworld. They don't have to mop or anything.
7. Raid NPCs can't just die by starvation. Technically they can, but if they loiter too long, and their timer runs out, they will just flee your colony. It happened once to me, as the AI can't calculate the path for them. They just stood there doing nothing.
8. I don't think ceiling attracts raider. You know the little gazebo we often made to trap them. Either by crushing them with the ceiling or by setting a lot of traps nearby.
9. Keeping your colonist warm during a harsh winter could be challenging if you're high above the ground. The challenge comes in fact that you don't have enough space in the bedroom to place a LOT of braziers. Like you must encompass the bed with braziers. Tho colonists aren't as demanding at low temperature compared to the Rimworld. Or I could say, cold is not as fatal as RW. You can sometimes get away with a room at 11 degrees celcius.
Not sure how to make runaway heating room to bake your visitor.
Yeah, war crimes aren't the same here and there.

Great city builder / villager manager!
I played the game when it launched a few years ago and it keeps getting better with regular updates. It’s like Rimworld with better graphics, but there are currently a few less mechanics. Definitely give this a chance if you like single player village builders. It’s challenging, intuitive , and entertaining.

It's way too rough around the edges. The AI is SO SO SO BAD and frustrating. The building mechanics are so confusing and make little sense. I have to build rooms so small so the roof will be supported. The pawns will go DOWN to the level where you are deleting a ladder and THEN delete the ladder so they're trapped. I did it three times trying to restrict where enemies could get in from and each time the pawn would trap themselves. It's just such a downgrade from Rimworld. Maybe one day but right now, nope. I'm done. I have +1000 hours in Rimworld so this IS my type of game.
Gave it another shot. Crashed after 3 hours. Still a nope.

This game is the 3D version of rimworld one of my favorite colony/survival sim games. It's limited at the moment but the mods look promising. I hope they make some DLC in the future. The devs seem very active and focused on improving this game which is nice to see. I really hope this game gets to the rimworld level of detailed mods. The capabilities of this game could be endless.

This is a fun game, with just enough complexity to keep it interesting. I wish there was a larger map size but otherwise very enjoyable.

Absolutely fabulous game. Ultimately it gets compared to Rimworld, but it's better. I haven't played Rimworld since I discovered this game. There's a couple of things I'd like to see added or tweaked, but the Devs are super-active and I have no doubt this is going to continue to get even better as we go.
After my 5th colony I've pretty well got the progression nailed down and there does come a point where your village has become completely self sufficient and your settlers want for nothing. But the game's building aspect is super fun and engaging, so I find myself still playing the same village just to build more glorious structures and be creative.
That's maybe the one thing I'd like added, is a grand objective for those who mature their village and need something to strive for (Rimworld has the "leave the planet" objective which fills this void). The enemy AI could use a little love and the economy needs a tweak (Empires are apparently born by growing herbs!) but a top favorite in my Library and I can't wait to see future updates.

This game is really going somewhere! (See what I did there?) In a lot of ways it's ye olde colony sim + voxel based building, but it's got a certain... I don't know what. I've played a lot of colony sims and I broadly like them, so take that into account. I don't think what this game has over other colony sims will push it over the line for anyone who doesn't like the genre, but I do think that anyone who enjoys that type of game will like this one. Additionally, each time I come back to it they've made substantial improvements. I have no reason to doubt that this trend will continue.

Great game, if your a fan of the game stranded alien dawn, youll like this one. It might be early access but the developers are still active and push out updates regularly which is nice.
I have 1000 hours in Rimworld
I got this game since it scratches that same itch, but I have to say it does more than that. At first I thought this was just a Medieval Rimworld clone but it really stands on its own as a game. I'm having a good time and the devs pump out content.
If there are any early Rimworld players out there, they know it took time for it to be the massive game we know it for today. So give this game a chance and let the devs cook
