This is one of those difficult to recommend games. Unlike the prequel it's not encouraging you to rush through the levels, only really getting challenging during the final couple of stages. 30XX demands a more cautious and carefully paced approach. You will have to make use of the right stick to move the camera around.
That's because where a lot of the level obstacles in 20XX were moving platforms in this game there's a various lot of hazards and the enemies are harder to read and predict their behavior. Even when you start getting the handle on how to approach situations you will still be taking unavoidable cheap shots.
Ultimately, I left the game not on a good note but because one of the glory hole challenges on the final level was unmanageable and you can't even forfeit them any other way than just throwing your hands up and letting your health deplete.
If you have the patience for cheap unavoidable hits you might have fun with this game.

This game is a great almost. But there is WAY too much platforming for my tastes. After getting frustrated from several stupid platforming sections in the first half hour, I refunded.
Astral Ascent or Oblivion Override are much better games.

This game is so good, highly recommend if you're a fan of Mega Man X games and rogue-likes. Combat and movement feel super fluid, the music is fun, and is decently challenging all throughout. The story was also very interesting and handed in a very fun way. I highly recommend.

This is just a fun great game, and very underrated at that. I wish it has collaborations with other indie games where you can change Ace as "the Knight" from Hollow Knight and Isaac from Binding of Isaac as Nina. Because if anything, that is the only thing that Capcom wouldn't do, I'm just glad they didn't make this game. Can't wait for 40XX, or 30XX is still not done with its DLCs, yet.

It is a nice game overall, but skills are too boring, uncool, and basic.

It's an extremely good and well-designed game, especially if you crave for something like the Megaman X series. Honestly it's a bit daunting at first because the game is quite difficult, but after you get the hang of it, it feels very satisfying to play.

I really enjoyed 20XX. That game had a decent art style, great music, great replayability, and it felt balanced. I wish I could say the same about 30XX, but it's missing one major thing the original game had: balance.
On the first few levels of 30XX, it FEELS balanced. And yes, I understand it's supposed to be easier at the start to compensate for your weak starting build. Like most roguelikes/roguelikes, you're hoping to become overpowered with the perfect build that allows you to breeze through the later levels despite how hard they can get. This was something you could do in 20XX.
In 30XX, you can't.
The later levels have such atrocious and unfair level design, often flooding you with too many enemies, traps that you either can't see/the game tells you nothing about how to get past, or both. It can also sometimes be hard to get some good items, particularly because it feels like luck as to whether enemies drop nuts that you're supposed to spend in the shop. I've legit entered shops in levels and didn't have enough nuts to buy anything sometimes, because the game doesn't drop them enough. And also, even if you get equipped with a good set of items that synergize well enough to let you cheese your way through the levels, the other major problem with 30XX is the bosses.
I don't know if they're SUPPOSED to take so long to kill, but the fact that they have massive health bars that barely go down even with your strongest attacks turns boss fights (especially in the later levels) into tedious slogs where the boss will tire you out to the point where you'll die long before you manage to kill it. And even worse, some bosses have stupidly difficult to dodge attacks that just puts more pressure on the player while they struggle to take down the bosses' health. This is NOT good game design. And speaking of bad game design, is it REALLY necessary for the game to insult you when you die to something unfair? That's one of the biggest things that annoys me about 30XX.
The end result is a game that's nigh-impossible to master and more frustrating than fun. Although there are Assist Mode settings, the fact that the game isn't balanced well enough on the base difficulty makes these Assist Mode options feel pointless to use, especially because you can't use them in online seeded challenge runs. And the Assist Mode menu has the nerve to say that the game offers a "fun" challenge. It's NOT.
The few things I like about the game are the graphics; some really gorgeous pixel art and animations visible in both the sprites and backgrounds. The music is also wonderful, a variety of catchy chiptune inspired soundtracks that will get stuck in your head. But neither of these aspects can save the poorly designed gameplay.
To sum it up, 20XX is better than 30XX. I can tell 30XX was designed to be a more challenging experience than the first game, but it feels like they tried too hard and made the gameplay an unbalanced mess, not to mention it also feels like they put too much focus on other aspects like the pixel art and music instead of fine tuning the game itself. In the end, it's not really a worthy sequel, nor is it worth your time and money.
