Lots of fun! It's the original AOE, but with updated graphics.

this version has broken a handful of mission making them unplayable and after some game breaking bugs with its age of empire two count part, I give up with them, going back to the old versions

Some obvious issues for a really old game. But its a solid strategy game and I am enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Well worth getting on a sale and just working through the campaigns and hunting achievements.

I've been waiting a long time for this edition. It maintains the essence of the original game for the nostalgic but they improved the main weak points such as having a larger population and enabling non solid farms. The intelligence of the computer opponent also improved. But if you want to play the 90's version you still can.
Age of Emipres 2 integrated the ancient civilizations that characterized Age of Empires 1, bringing it to its game format, which is great, but it stole it's atention. However, I belive that Age of Empires 1 format can continue to be improved. I hope that in the future more civilizations, missions and other tipes of innovations are added.

This game is pretty entertaining for those who like having to deal with challenges.
But it has quite a few flaws. For example, if you are beginner, you will find it hard to play in casual mode.
Plus, you need to have the ability to multi-task. AND, to play the story mode, you have to be interested.
Now for a positive review. This game is quite accurate in the history part. It also has a big amount of paths to
choose from in the game. Its an actual (and realistic) empire simulator. Pretty much what i got to say for this game.

Don't get me wrong, Age of Empires is a classic and hugely influential to the RTS genre, but sadly it hasn't aged (pun not intended) all that great compared to it's sequel, which I'd recommend playing over this + plus there's the Return to Rome DLC expansion pack which pretty much ports this over to AOE2 with several QOL improvements/additions from it carried over (though so far only a few of the original campaigns have been ported).

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a beautified version of the original game with some added mechanics and matchmaking elements. The game engine feels dated if you have played modern RTS games. The game does have its faults. There are issues with pathfinding compared to other AOE games, enough so you will find yourself forced to slow your pace in order to not let units go the wrong way or worse get stuck. The negatives are not enough to weigh down the game as long as you make yourself aware and plan for it. I recommend the game to anyone who likes RTS games, is into retro games, or is an achievement hunter.

Although the actual game itself is enjoyable - it is plagued by too many issues that the developers are not supporting. Played for the first time the other day to relive some nostalgia with friends, but experienced atleast 4 instances of being randomly disconnected from Sync Errors / Networking errors resulting in a loss of all game progress.

shame it's not receiving updates like aoe2 gets, but it's the game you remember, especially when you put classic graphics enabled
