Obey the Fist! apparently showed up here to provide his critical analysis of sub-3D gaming experiences. I'm curious what happens if you choose to not obey the fist? I'm a mere two dimensional drawing, so what do I know? What if one wants to obey two fists? Is there a double-fisting package to obey?
In order to offset fasci-fisty's anti-second dimension crusade, I will be comparing every game I review on Steam to the standard set forth by the Mechanical Turk. There's nothing more multi-dimensional than reality.
The Mechanical Turk has a Turkish puppet dude. Zaxtor99 recently tried to help a Turkish developer with his game. I sometimes feel that Zaxtor99 is purposely nudging my ship in Fancie Veer, causing me to run into vektroids. The mechanical turk gets an edge for being significantly more fraudulent, given that the Turk was controlled by a person inside of an enclosure below. I do hate Vektroids though.. we'll say this one is a draw.
The Mechanical Turk was built with the bloody, calloused hands of real men of 18th century pedigree. Fancie Veer was built by a 21st century equivalent using Gamemaker Studio. It is a known fact that Gamemaker Studio will just build a working game for you just by yelling at it like you would with Siri. It was similar with the Mechanical Turk except you had to yell at your indentured servants instead of Siri-like AI. Gamemaker Studio is better than worker exploitation, so Zaxtor99 gets the win here.
Mechanical Turk's outfit can be changed, making it almost seem like it's a different game. It's not though.. it's always chess. No idea if Zaxtor99 changes outfits. Maybe? Being an American potato farmer isn't easy and unless Zaxtor99 is working the potato fields in the nude, he'd have to change outfits due to how quickly they get worn out. Potatoes make vodka, vodka makes Russians, and Russians make many games for the enjoyment of all on Steam. Mechanical Turk caught on fire in 1854 so provides enjoyment for no one. Zaxtor99 is the clear victor here.
As an Russo-American potato farmer take on Asteroids, FAN'CIE VEER isn't half-bad. It does feel like it cheats you much like the Mechanical Turk, but that's likely more a result of my lack of skill than anything else. I'd definitely prefer keyboard for movement over the mouse, but that fundamentally changes the game.
I'm testing out my new grading system. Out of 10 games reviewed so far this year, 1 didn't work, 7 more were "F"s, 1 D, and 1 C. FAN'CIE VEER is the one C. It's an average game that's perfectly acceptable for fans of the genre.
Graphics/Sound [20%]
**70%**
- The line/vector graphics and multiple colors creates an interesting field to look at, albeit it is rather basic. Graphics and sound are more than serviceable for a game like this.
Gameplay/Controls [50%]
**80%**
Tight gameplay loop and understandable progression. There's a core gameplay loop present that makes sense. Not a fan of mouse for movement, though.
Misc/Other [30%]
**70%**
- Developer is active in his community and plays his own games. He always seems to be working on something new.
- Leaderboards are present and functional.
- Price per hour of gameplay, for fans of classic arcade titles, will almost certainly be under $1/hr. It's a bargain title.
TOTAL: 75% - C - Recommend.
