The 7th Guest was the first game I ever purchased back in 1995 and I remember how fun and difficult it was without Google. In 2007 I abandoned the PC forever and switched to Mac, but the game is still with me on the shelf. I tried to run it with Crossover, but I am using a Silicone Mac, so this game doesn’t work. I purchased The 7th Guest 25th Anniversary edition and the original game DLC to run it on my Steam Deck OLED. I read in the game description, that its ability to work on the Steam deck is unknown, but the DLC with the original game will work. When I installed the game and all supplemental components, the T7G 25th didn’t work right out of the box. It started to initialize and almost immediately quit. Then I changed compatibility to Proton 5.0.3 and ran the game once again. The game started to install DirectX and ScummVM once again, then I installed the DLC. Now T7G 25th started to run normally, I configured in the main menu the preferred language, an autosave option, and started the new game. This remake is simply gorgeous! The graphics are clean and sharp, the cinematic is truly ghostly and the Russian voice is very dramatic, the control is very simple: use the left crossbar to fast move in four directions and the Right trackpad as a mouse, click to select a puzzle or execute an action. That’s all. I even solved a couple of puzzles, before I started tweaking the game compatibility because I wanted to use the most recent Proton as possible, since I wasn’t able neither to exit the game nor to return to the game menu. But thanks God, each time you solve the puzzle, the game automatically saves the game progress in the cloud, so if you want to quit, just press the power button for 2 seconds and restart Steam or shut down the deck. Next time you run the game, click Continue and you will find yourself in the place, where you solved the last puzzle. I solved every puzzle on the 1st floor and passed the maze, and the game behaved very stable without any glitches. Then I switched Compatibility mode to ULWGL-Proton-8.0-5-3 and the game also works OK. However, the return to the main menu doesn’t work. Honestly, in the very first run, I was able to return to the main menu by pressing the 3-line button (upper right) and saving the game into the slot.1 giving it a name, then I pressed Continue to proceed. After that, each time I pressed the 3-line button, I saw a black screen and there was no way to exit except to invoke the Steam menu and to choose the restart or shutdown. I hope the folks at Steam and MojoTouch will solve this little glitch and we will have a perfect game.
