Altamente recomendado!!
I had the privilege to be part of the original beta testing group and entered into the game with the mindset of NOT to spend any money on it (after all I was doing them a service by testing it). The following review is based on my experience and strategy...
First of all, let me ask you, have you ever had a 'needy friend' in real life? What eventually happened? Did you ever tire of them continually selfishly wanting? Did they ever stop wanting? The more and more money you spent on them, did they ever become satisfied? Less demanding? Over the years you spent heaps of money on them, have you really got anything to show for all that money spent? No? Likewise if you think the more money you spend on this game the less demanding it is going to be ... boy are you in for a shocker. If you think that spending money in this game is going to give you some type of 'ownership' ... you really need to read the SMALL print.
Before we go on, let’s unmask the people behind this project, it comes from a small Russian company known as Artogon. They don't actually have a website at the moment, but you can find one of the head honcho's here https://www.linkedin.com/in/timsadovsky883234 . This game 'Wanderland' has already existed for quite some time and just recently been ported to Steam. It is a casual HOS game, like so many of their other games which they often market to BIG FISH who in turn presents them with an award (that's like my mother telling you how wonderful I am. Do you think there maybe bias there?).
Predominantly this is an effective cash cow, because the game will constantly troll a player with a low chance rate with regards to a barrage of constant rare items, while at the same time exposing a player to constant limited sale offers flashing on the right hand side user interface. It's these two elements placed together which spell out 'MONEY' for both developer and publisher. Is it effective? Hell yeah. I was personally surprised at how many beta testers couldn't resist forking out real money, even before the game was even released. Basically it's some rich guy saying 'Here Sheepy' and the consumer hands over there credit card details and shouts 'BAAAAA!'
What do I mean by low percentage rate chance? Well one rare item you will constantly need in game is a mirror curse. These are obtainable through the 'Hunters Hut' Hos. I played that scene 1200 times before it decided to give me one. Sure you can obtain by other means such as someone can gift it to you, you can get them rarely in treasure chests and sometimes rarely by defeating a goblin, but it does go to show what I mean by low chance. There are literally many items like this that have a low chance rating which constantly trolls you to grind away needlessly at HOS.
So a gamer really needs to ask themselves a couple of questions before they start this game.
1. Do I want to expose myself to this constant trolling need of items and sly effective marketing techniques?
2. Do I have the time to grind away hours upon hours at the same HOS thousands of time?
3. Do I have the money to spend if I become addicted to it?
4. Do I have the patience necessary to enjoy the game if I do not have the money to spend on it?
Now let’s do a complete flip in mind set. There are many gamers that DO have the money and are willing to spend it on a game they DO enjoy. For such ones this is an easy game to fall in love with and become addicted to. The games story revolves around various folk tales and children’s stories we all grew up with, from the world popular Snow White to less known characters from Russia. Most will just be delighted unlocking a new HOS or being rewarded with a 'Solution' which they must match up the discovered puzzle pieces with. This will often unlock a small animation and the artistry is often something that captures the imagination. The sound on the other hand I always found to be lacklustre in various places. For instance an exploding portal which you think would explode into existence doesn't even make a noise and a castle which quakes into two was accompanied by a tiny rumble which a hungry belly would probably drown out. I guess Artogon may have sacked their sound department recently?
Anyway if you enjoy HOS, and you've got money to lavishly spend then this is definitely a game for you. Alternatively you could always come over to my place and I will hide various items in my garden and you could give me money and I could hide them again. Just saying...
How about if you don't have money can you still enjoy it? Yes! If you enjoy the challenge. Personally, I did not spend any money on this at all and levelled up just as quickly as those that did. Here is how the game works.
* Save coins and rubies predominantly for your Golden Image and Wishing Well. Golden image gives you more and more coins as you level up every 10 minutes. Wishing well gives you more energy every 30 minutes as you level it up. To upgrade golden image will cost rubies. To upgrade wishing well will cost coins. Save them both as they can be difficult to come by since hos reward you barely with coins.
*Jumping in and out of portals will trigger new quests. Completing quests is where you will make your money.
* Utilise the community hub and add as friends as you can. You will be given two slots where you can put your item wish list in. This advertises to gamers what you’re in need of. It serves the interest of gamers to give you these items if they have spare as many quests involving treasure chests require to give things to friends. The other two slots in your wish list require rubies to unlock and are completely unnecessary. As soon as you have been gifted an item you can simply resubmit your wants again.
* In the early stages of the game are hidden wanderland tiles hidden inside the portals. Take time farming these tiles as they seem to be endless in the first three portals then become rather scarce later. These you use to unlock a pairs game where the last tiles you pair together is what you will be rewarded with. So take note what you really need and match that tile pair last.
* Archivist allows you to unlock a bronze, silver or gold treasure chest. Concentrate on the bronze ones only. The problem with the silver and gold is that the costs in obtaining them are quite extravagant and if you don't meet all the requirements by the time allotted then you have spent all those items in vain.
* Around level 16 you will be allowed to enter into tournaments with 3 varying objectives. While the gold, silver, and bronze chests look appealing, the cost of items you spend in obtaining them is insane if you actually sat down and looked at it on paper. Therefore the chests you obtain simply for entering into the tournament are actually the smarter way to go.
* Around level 22 you unlock a caravan which rewards you with two random items every 15 hrs. You need to click on it for it to renew.
* Very early you get to send a ship away packed or unpacked. If you don’t have the items the ship wants then send it away unpacked. When it comes back it will want something different. If you let it naturally come back it will want the same thing. Watch what the ship rewards you with. Only send it packed when it has a reward you WANT!
* Cursing the board is one of the biggest aggravating trolling mechanisms of the game as the curse is random in what it actually curses and since mirror curse it hard to come by, you don't want it going to waste. There is a way to force the game to curse the HOS you want. Lay your board with cheaper curses and free the one that you want the mirror curse on.
