Quick disclaimer I don't see mentioned anywhere: the game uses generative AI
The main reason this is a positive review is because the game is in early access. I've been playing the regular Ghost Master so the differences are fresh on my mind. Here are some points to take into consideration: Positive: - There are more haunting objects around. - There is actual voice acting in other languages, tho the translations at least in spanish have some weird typos like random "#s" in the text. - You can now see how and how much the skills affect mortals. Neutral: - The game is easier. Not a bad thing, but the pumpkin timers are more lenient and I've heard some people say the mortals are quicker to perform tasks you need for objectives. There's a difficulty slider anyway. - Layouts have been thrown around, so some old strategies are no longer possible. - The graphics are more modern but they're so blurry I can't really tell if it's for the better. Probably the upscaling but maybe I'm missing something in the settings. Negative: - Less achievements. May be added later. - No option for adjusting mouse sensitivity, tho I'm sure it's coming at some point. - The game uses generative AI for visuals. Nowhere in the store page is this disclosed despite it being part of Steam's policy. I'm offering the benefit of the doubt and assuming these are only placeholder assets until the game is finished. I'm fine with a little upscaling but seems the main menu is at least partially AI made, and if you look at the community screenshots you'll see several weird AI sheep you can find if you POV a human in a nightmare. It would be funnier if they kept the old low quality sheep instead. Plus the achievement art, and with the logo of this "Crackbrain Design" being AI too, it's not looking too good. - Some sound is loud anywhere, so you'll hear annoying repetitive effects no matter how far you are from the ghost. I am very hopeful this will be a remake to honor the legacy of Ghost Master. The short remaining development time (6 months in EA, according to the store page) worries me, but I still hope for the best. The AI content should be reconsidered if not already intended as a placeholder. We are paying for a remake, not an AI make.
