Steam needs to add a mixed rating, this game is not bad but it suffers from the typical eastern unbalanced difficulty that you see in other games ( MoW comes to mind with its campaing). For instance the game is random, items change position and types per playthrough making some playthroughs moot when you get a bad combination of enemies, creatures you can hire and items.
Another point the power between the classes can be seen from a mile away, mages suck as they lack leadership and attack and defence, resulting in small and weak armies while warriors eat everything for breakfast, even the stupid restriction of not being able to use the pet against the boss is small when you have huge armies that stike harder and take less damage ( plus a few buff from spells). The paladin as a hybrid is meh, you have more freedom with magic but still plays like a warrior. Some say that mages become powerhouses with certain spells, but first you need skills to be able to have enough mana and also the luck to find scrolls( again the random items screwing you over).
The enemies will almost always outnumber you and they are diverse when it makes no sense, you have undead walking around with humans which in your case results in severe handicap while for the PC it means nothing. In order to with the ever growing number of enemies, the pet comes into play, but it lacks AOE to be any use early on, relying on its single damage move. This game unlike Legends shows that you won't win unless you spend points into rage.
The difference in enemy power in each land is ridiculous even at easy difficulty, you are more than forced to clean every one before procceding, not helped by the lack of enemies meaning you'll never be high level enough, this makes the player try to kite enemies around the map.
Kiting was also changed, groups will follow you from greater distance than Legends being proportional to the enemy might, while also being faster coupled with the new map unlock system, in which you must get a chart to procced to a next island, further adds to the frustation.
Still this game is worth for one playthrough with the best chars, but don't expect to have the same well built world and adventure of Legends, in fact they thought that merely adding enemies that are OP would be okay. Warriors of the North for all the unbearable grind it has, might be the appex of King's Bounty , it has balance, a good progression meaning you'll become a powerhouse in no time, great skill tree, interesting world with enemies that predictable. Even the Crossworld expansion added little to band aid the problems of AP.
