This is not a complete game, it is just a sort of introduction to a larger project (as the dev clearly states in the store page), but, since this version [spoiler] effectively has a sort of conclusion [/spoiler], I will review it as a finished product. Araignees is, simply speaking, an excellent horror puzzle game. Why excellent? Because the puzzle component is... somewhat hidden. As you play, you might have the impression to be playing a sort of trivial survival horror, but it is not like that at all. The puzzles are not slapped right in your face, you have to... "find" them. This leads to a very heavy trial and error component, but I guarantee that it is 100% part of the game. You HAVE to "die" repeatedly in order to figure out how to solve a particular situation. That's basically the puzzle component. This is a rather innovative way to design a horror puzzle game, but you have to try to fully understand what I am talking about, because... it is difficult to explain. And the other reason why I strongly recommend this game is its nearly PERFECT atmosphere. Rarely, while playing a horror game, I have been feeling so lost and helpless. This game is... oppressive, as every well made horror game should be. No jumpscares, just a constant and almost unbearable sense of dread and peril. All this is further enhanced by an extremely creepy ambience, some brilliant visual effects (the spiders dragging away their own webs gave me shivers!), and a truly terrifying creature design. Also, the plot is MUCH deeper than it may seem, and keeps you fully engaged from the beginning to the end. There are still a few problems that must be solved (I already reported them to the dev, and he/she showed a very mature and professional attitude towards my criticism), but overall this is a very well made introduction to a bigger horror project that I absolutely want to see in its full form, so I suggest we all show our trust and our support to this brave and talented indie dev.
