This game is pretty and promise a lot of things.
We see what this game has to offer. It pushed us to give our best and try again to succeed and test our determination.
But this game isn't without flaws and it's sad to arrive at the end and feeling unsatisfied.
1. The rooms are big, but the parkour feels very minimalistic at some points. Vipera's forest and the last level seems to be the only levels "charged" with traps and obstacles.
2. Some jumps are really precise and challenging, and are really fun to do. The system of trial and errors is not a bad thing, but at some point it's impossible to not feel frustrated because one spike/deadly crystal killed us at 1 pixel close. After trying to master the moves and do all the jumps correctly, it feels too punishing.
3. The first and last "Bosses" are hard and challenging. The middle one only took us one minute to beat, it was very weird.
4. The controls are original and we loved using all Nox's abilities to progress despite some inconsistencies.
5. Sometimes you are stuck into walls, and it's pretty infuriating because it breaks your momentum, especially during the last boss fight. They could have added a button to cling to walls instead.
6. Only 2 collectibles, for only 2 achievements, not even a secret cutscene to reward you for saving everyone and reading all Paddlewood fanfic chapters.
7. And the most disapointing part, the story. It's linear, flat, unsurprising. The game is so nervous you never take the time to bond with the main characters. You don't feel concerned by what's happening. The lore is slammed into your face and you can't even digest it that you are teleported to the next level. You can even skip the cutscenes showing how the story wasn't the main point of the game. They tried to make a rich story, but there are so much elements the lore tells but never show you. The dragon, the big anaconda, the giant worm? Forget them, you will never have Paddlewood's chance to meet them.
(At some point, Paddlewood seems to have a more interesting adventure than us).
The animation is pretty and the character design is very cute, but except the owl, the villain and the gods, no other npc's. Even the villagers you saved are conveniently hidden behind the camera for the 3 seconds the cutscene show them free.
And the ending of course is a succession of cliches and even if the main villain (that you encounter only at the very end) has ONE interesting sentence about how we are MAYBE to blame about what happened, it's never questioned after. Luxanna sacrifies herself and we don't know what happened to the vilain army, as if they never existed.
In conclusion, the game has a huge potential, and it tries very hard. But it's obviously a game only made for speedrunners and people who want to master all the skills and levels, not for people who are interested in discovering the lore by themselves.
It's not a "bad" game, but it feels incomplete, or it tried to to propose to many things at the same time and at the end it feels like a blurry mess.
Buy this game if you are interested in speedy levels, the game is clearly made for speedruns only.
But buy it with at least 30% of reduction, because it's not a game you can spend hundreds of hours on it.
