Wow!!! This is REALLY a great game. I would describe it as a crossover between Robo Recall and Arktika.1. It takes the node teleportation system from Arktika and the robotic opponents plus the "tear apart mechanic" from Robo Recall and puts them into a futuristic war setting. But there is not only shooting, but also stealth elements and minor simple tasks like scanning parts etc. While I didn´t like Robo Recall (although it´s a good game for sure), Arktika.1 is one of my all time favourites but has one weakness: It is far too easy. Once you have the Ikari pistol you wipe out any opposition at once. Arktika.1 would actually be better if you had weaker weapons. In Upora Story things are vice versa: The opponents are a real challenge and you do wish to have stronger weapons than the pistols right from the beginning. Once you´ve made it through the initial quarter of level 1 in which you actually have two assault rifles to cut yourself through the opposition, things are getting much more difficult in the later parts of level 1, when you have only got your standard pistols. The robo opponents are tough cookies which sustain a lot of damage till they die. This is a good thing and keeps the challenge level pretty high-at least for my taste. What also makes things pretty difficult is the nature of the objects you can take cover behind: they are pretty small indeed and you really really have to duck down DEEP or- as I found out- hit the floor completely in order not to get hit by the projectiles. Since there are two kinds of close combat bots that will charge you immediately, you are going to find yourself in some physically difficult situations. Personally I think this is just awesome, because in other cover shooters you comfortably stand or kneel behind cover and wipe out the opposition one after the other. Here I sometimes found myself lying on the floor, carefully peering around corners and always in fear that a close combat model would charge me. This is fun, very very exciting and physically exhausting but an awesome idea-if it was meant to be like this. I´m not the tallest person (1,78 m) and I could imagine that someone who is taller would not be able to get any cover at all, if he only got on his knees. Maybe it would be an option to enlarge the cover objects, since this would raise the comfort level enormously. Concerning bugs, there was just one minor one that I experienced: In the stealth level, when I killed the first robot from behind in cc and teleported to the next node, where you have to take out two robots (which I didn´t manage to do), I wanted to quit the game. When I pressed the menu button on the Vive controller, I do enter the Steam menu, but pressing the trigger for "ending Upora Story" doesn´t do anything. So I had to manually switch off the program and the Vive. Just as an info for the developers. I´m really looking forward to getting further into the game and I hope there are some serious badass weapons to be found. If you like action games with good graphics and a good setting, this one is definitely recommended! Edit: heavily sweating... c´mon guys!! The infiltration level is way too hard! It´s just trial and error to take out those bots in cc! I managed to accomplish it somehow, but it wasn´t fun at all! The following sequence does indeed have a variety of good weapons (as I hoped!!), but even if you eliminate the bad guys (which is difficult enough!!), you still have that annoying time limit!! And it is NOT reset when you die!!! And when time is running out, you have to repeat the whole infiltration sequence all over again!!! Aaaaaaargh!! This is soooooo frustrating! I would HIGHLY recommend to include a) different levels of difficulty b) bullet time in order to make some of the firefights more manageable. So many games have it, but in this great game it would be more than welcome!!
