"You need to make a choice!" "A Choice?" This game is very beautiful. It has a great soundtrack, very good animation and overall graphic design. It's close to playing a Ghibli Movie as you can get. BUT. It also has the worst (or best?) illusion of choice I've ever witnessed in a game. Yes, telltales Game of Thrones was frustrating, but still entertaining. Forgotton Anne on the other hand presents an illusion of choice that tempts you with going the "evil" route so well, even when you never like playing the evil route, that you WANT to be bad! But then it doesn't actually let you. Sure, you can be mean, even kill people, but only as a way of showing the player that the main character changes later on and being mean is bad. But the game leaves the player behind in doing so, because the "bad" choices seemed SO PLAUSIBLE at times. Like, of course I'll take out an intruder, are you kidding? And it doesn't stop there: you can side or agree with some "bad" person and a third one will jump in, say "oh she didn't mean it like that" and overule your choice. Why go to such lengths to negate my choices, the choices the game offers me?!? This is such bad game design,,, I had the time and wanted to see if it has different endings. Just to see if anything meant something in the end. Well, there are two endings: one is good and one is ruined by the character not reacting to the players choices. So the game even says "nuh uh uh! you can choose, but THAT ending doesn't make sense :)" It's like doing your taxes "we know how much you owe us, but lets see if you know too :)" This game would've been great if choices actually meant anything. Or they could've just went without choices and told the story they wanted to tell. This game sucks!

Daumen mittel. pro: Welt, Story/Idee, Ghibli-style Grafik contra: Sprungmechanik unausgegoren, einige Stellen,an denen man erstmal hängt und nur mit Glück (die richtige Taste nochmal gedrückt zu haben,entgegen der Gameplay-Logik des restlichen Spiels) weiterkommt. Haupstsächlich: die beiden Enden sind unbefriedigend und Teile vom Ende kommen nach dem (nicht überspringbaren) abspann. Nur zufällig entdeckt. 79 Punkte. Ohne die contrapunkte wäre es eine 89.
