Normally I love Strategic mind games, But the Japanese gameplay is terrible. Very first mission, Absolute victory is impossible due to ghost enemy units existing after the mission is completed, my ships went around the entire island and all my planes out of fuel, and used the scouting plane every single turn, and nothing. on my last turn before Victory point penalty, and it says not all enemies are defeated. so unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game.

Not for everyone, I'll say that right now. Clunky voice acting, clearly focused on unit models, etc. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT I've literally beat all 5 in the series. IDK what it is but this game series makes me feel akin to playing with army men when I was 5. Just a fascination with this monumental event that's so far beyond you - then taking control with some (REALLY amusing) historical "what ifs?" and it leads to an overall experience that I just love. Playing as Imperial Japan invading the Panama Canal to ensure Japanese dominance in the Pacific? That's hilarous, I love it. Plalying as Finland and managing to gain sufficient force to counterattack against the Soviets all the way to Moscow? Love it. It's absolutely a niche game but again - as someone who is very much in that niche & has basically every WWII strat. game on steam, I keep coming back to this one and it's wacky cousins. I'll leave it there. P.S. If you like this, check out Headquarters WWII. Another really cool turn-based game. And Steel Division II if you want WWII RTS.
