You're Not Special Reviews

You're Not Special is a (mostly) non-combat, choices-matter, puzzle-based RPG. There are great forces set to doom the small kingdom in which you live and only the chosen one can stop them. The problem is, you're not the chosen one.

It's refreshing. The music it's really cool and the story its really interesting. Many puzzles that keep you thinking and many decisions, that made you return and see what happen if... Playable in mac too... so, good for me.
Honestly and to my shame: I came for the music, and stayed for the game. The puzzles are clever, and the characters sweet, the plot I enjoy, and also the read. Much love went in here, so give it a try, you won't be disappointed, as I would straight rebuy.
A joy. I have five different saves I'm playing at once, because I constantly want to go back and find out what happens if I make different choices. This little game is fantastic, it packs a big punch, and is quite cute. Just challenging enough to keep me trying the same bits over & over for hours but not so challenging that I give up. Have been telling all my friends.
One Word, Charm
This game packs a lot of it. At every turn there seems to be a pleasant NPC interaction packed with quirky dialogue, giving it a real feel of modern life and the weirdos we may encounter. Yet, it uses those interactions to contribute to an overarching narrative of the mundane, and what is possibly a reflection of our own desire to be more than we were meant to be. Aside from an interesting environment, let's talk about that music. I love it. I'm a huge sucker for quality soundtracks and this is no exception. The music does enough to putts you along and keep your mind active, without being too in your face. After about 5 hours of exploring a quaint little world to the wonderful melodies written and performed by Lighting Nights , I'm just going to have to check back and purchase that soundtrack. Finally, yes, this is a mostly non-combat RPG, but that doesn't mean it is without meaningful interaction. Explore your environment, interact with some great puzzles, complete side quests, and pick up on the all the little nuances left by the developers as you follow around the Chosen One on HIS quest for glory. And when there is combat... boy oh boy, can it be tough. Make sure to save often, keep your wits about you, and most importantly, remember that You're Not Special! Great job Reky Studios. A fun, easily consumable piece of art. A definite recommend. Vis ma vie de NPC

This game has a awesome soundtrack an interesting story and puzzles that can be hard to complete but are also fun. All the different endings add a lot to the game. This game is definitely worth buying for 12 dollars.

First: I didn't find it aaas amazing as the previous reviewers, compared to other games that I've played. BUT ... I'm definitely charmed and enriched. And grateful that this game was made. :-) The game is an interesting essay on what might happen if someone else is the hero. I liked the experience. Exploring that other perspective. I liked it a lot. I like also how there's many philosophically/psychologically interesting thoughts voiced by different characters weaved in throughout the game. One playthrough is rather short. It took me ~4 hours. Clearly, the focus is not on telling a long, complex story, but a short, magical one with different choices that lead to different endings. There are 10 endings, so I guess you'd have to multiply the playing time by a few times, minus time for things like puzzles, which I think you'd just do again the same way each replay? Although the puzzles are well done, so if you let some time pass between playthroughs, they'd have replay value. There's only one town, one forest and three dungeons. The story rushes through its story beats quickly - once you figure out what to do next. The lore feels real and mysterious, but not very extensive. I like it as far as it goes. I would like to see more of the world and the characters. Some things that could be improved: - If you overstep your bounds, people tell you off (after all, you are not a chosen one ;-)). I think their ways of doing so could be a little more varied. A few more could be sprinkled in between who react e.g. with humour, or confusion, based on their personalities. Someone could escort you to the door politely but insistingly, or someone could just stare at you meaningfully, or ... etc. - People tell you off for entering their houses without notice (finally a game that gets that a little more realistic =) ) but there is no way to actually knock on their door or ring a doorbell. Maybe it could be added. - There could be more things to do in the town area? Especially ... I'd suggest making earning the money for the cloak a little more fun and less repetitive. Maybe the tasks you have to do to earn money could evolve, e.g., at first it's just, please gather wood, then after a while the person says they would also like for you to collect mushrooms for them, and then next something else ... or the guy could say, please take down my laundry, and maybe later you could help him do his dishes or something ... Generally, a charming, thoughtful game that could be expanded upon. Unique and refreshing in its approach, it's worth a playthrough (or several).

First of all I love this game. Secondly I leave it running while I'm not on, so my game time's gonna look like I spend my life on here and am completely obsessed. .... which wouldn't be the furthest thing from the truth honestly. The game is reminiscent of the RPGs I played as a child but charmingly self aware. I loved the character interactions, storyline, music , and the fact that that there are multiple endings. The puzzles are a great balance of manageable/ challenging. I think it has great replay value with the engrossing story and various outcomes. It's obvious the amount of thought/ effort that went into it. Would highly recommend

This game is honestly such a gem! The music is incredibly composed, the writing is phenomenal, the puzzles are well planned and the characters are lovable. The creativity behind the story is so apparent, viewing the average games storyline from the perspective of the average joe. You’re not the hero, you’re not special. Furthermore, This game has a great deal of replayability. I have just completed my first play through, but I find myself wanting to go back and change how I handle one conversation, how I treat one npc etc. All in all I would buy this game again, and I certainly will play it again, if not for the story (which is so, so good) then for the atmosphere and the music, AHHH THE MUSIC. I may not be special, but this game surely is; 10/10.

I really wanted to continue this game. However, despite the fact that it's mostly non-combat, I found some of the action parts too difficult. I decided to give up since they were probably only going to get worse! Some puzzles also required very exact timing if you didn't want to be squished by a rock, and there were places where it wasn't obvious what to do next. (Who on earth finds that fox without Googling it?) To be fair, most people will probably have few problems with the gameplay, but as a pregnant mother playing while completely exhausted at bedtime, I just didn't have the reflexes to grapple with it, and I certainly don't have the time to turn the game on in the early morning just to get through the next tricky bit. The story was also a bit lacklustre. The problem with these "you've lost your memory" games is that your character has no personality or backstory and has no idea what's going on, which never makes for a strong plot hook. The protagonist is chasing a random man without being able to articulate why or even who he is; you'd have thought that they might be a bit more bothered about remembering their own identity. Still, the plot may become more compelling as the story progresses. Perhaps one day I'll have another go, but at the moment I'm struggling with it. You may enjoy it more, but be aware that it involves real-time action which is harder than the typical turn-based combat of these games.
