There are a lot of flaws with this game, infantry en masse are way overpowered and really this can make the game too easy. Overall though it's actually a fairly fun game and an ok buy for $2.50 (normal sales price). I'd recommend running through the campaign then playing with a random smaller country, it overall was a fun game and I'll continue to play from time to time. The fun lies in the supply lines and the actual warefare. Ignore the political systems and the flaws in the tech tree and you may find yourself having a good time.

A very interesting turn-based strategy game with mechanics I haven't really found in other such games as of yet. Saddly you can't get it anymore unless you buy expensive keys online (I got it for dirt cheap). It is a combination of Civ and Total War in a way but set in the near future. It has you play as a country from Europe or USA fighting for dominance in Europe. While simple at first glance the game has quite a bit going on under the hood.

Should you buy it? Yes, it is not the best and falls a bit short on tutorial and initial understanding of what you are doing.....But its a quick learner if you are a turn-based gamer. What it does have going for/against (depending on personal game playing of course) it is a very hard game to win. and hey.....it's only $2.00 and plays as well as some of these titles getting $30.00.

As a big infantry player of all strategy games its nice to see my infantry customizable to be able to take on any task. From Infantry to Tanks to Helicopters to even fighting in a "dirty" zone in hazmat suits. But its not just the infantry that are customizable, your Tanks can be given reactive amour to deflect rounds to a realistic extend, you can load your bombers with with bio-weapons and drop them on your enemy (if you're feeling rather evil, try dropping them on his/her major cities to kill his/her civilans just because you can) and the sneaky players are not to be dispointed either. You can create your spec ops squads and they can go around causing strife such as blowing up a structer of importance and blaming it on another country to start a fight between the two. Or have spys can gain intel on surrounding areas before you invade/bomb. Overall one of the best games I have played, esspically for a turnbased game. 10/10

Excellent Game! A lot like Hearts of Iron with some oldschool Panzer General thrown in. Great game for someone looking for something more complicated than Risk or Axis and Allies but not overly complicated where you have to juggle economy and a bunch of other trivial metrics. Simple research system, and enough unit variation to keep it interesting. It does the genre justice.

Fantastic! Similar to Civilization, but with hexagonal tactical combat to resolve disputes instead of petty sprite animations. Set in todays volatile world you choose between any of the major European powers (France, Germany, Great Britain, Russia) plus the USA. Each has a campaign mode where you are issued missions to accomplish in addition to bonus missions which must be accomplished before a set time. With Great Britain for instance
the story involves the subjugation of Ireland in addition to commando strikes in Russia
Units are generic but you can customize each unit with up to two different upgrades depending on your research. The economy is simple and so is supplying troops. There is a interesting facet in that the game takes heavily into account black operations varying from spying in different cities up to and including setting off a suitcase nuke and spreading infectious diseases within cities. These types of operations are divided between spies and commandos. In addition to doing any of those you can also choose to nplant false evidence pointing to a third party. False Flag operation. The combat is fairly straight forward with a hexagonal map making up the different battlefields where you will engage enemy units from the strategic map. The only downside is that there are no maps for naval battles meaning naval battles are resovled a la total war circa Medieval 2 and under. Defenitely recommend considering the price I paid. 1USD

The thing with Grand Strategy games is that it's very hard not to exploit the flaws once you find them. In this game, it's retarded AI and helicopters. Here is why: Tanks and artillery cannot attack air units, so they are screwed. Infantry and anti-aircrafters can attack only at one block range, therefore helicopters just have be at a two block distance before they attack, so infantry and anti-aircraft are screwed. The only challenge are enemy helicopters, but since AI is retarded and don't know how to retreat, you can just simply gang up on them, so they're screwed. In the world map using a single helicopter you can one by one wipe out pretty much all small enemy forces and then surround the big ones. The retarded AI then will split them the next turn in order to attack the territories around it, and since you can almost always retreat, the enemy just exposes itself doing no damage, and after that you can just helicopter them again. Rinse and repeat. Of course, you could raise the difficulty by playing as Luxenbourg with no resources on hard, though in my opinion that's artificial difficulty, but if you're into that sort of psychotic grinding, go nuts, otherwise unless you're completely unfamiliar with Grand Strategy genre, you would find this game a bit too easy. Also, there some other things to complain. The loading takes more time than to format a hard disk drive. Sometimes I get this weird static noise, that overtakes everything else. Troop animations are kinda clunky and unpolished, for instance, if you move a tank over a hill, it gets swallowed by it. Sometimes after battle the button that makes you go back to the world map freezes, which induces some pleasant ragequits. In conclusion, even though this game is so appallingly broken, I still find it kinda interesting, and since it's quite cheap, it's worth trying out.

Though the gameplay and mechanics of the this game are interesting and at times even a little fun (although the poorly done tutorials and lack of an kind of guide make it hard to learn at first) the actual programing is what kills this game. STORM is riddled with glitches and bugs ranging from texture glitches to all out game crashing errors. I was unable to ever finish a full game without it either freezing up or crashing.

Although there is little in the way of a tutorial or guide for this game, once you pick it up and learn how to play it is very fun and satisfying. Anyone who enjoys grand strategy game and has been waiting for one to come out set in the modern era, this is for you. False flag operaitons with special forces ... awesome. I would recomend this game to anyone, and I can't believe it is only 4.99!!! A+++++++++

This is a great strategy game for folks that want more than just another x4 with new skin. Pretty much every choice you make has future consequences and that causes you to plan out your immediate decisions based on goals you need to reach MANY years / turns later. This is not a game that you can just make a ton of troops / WMDs and win without a thought or brute force. If you go solo and try to take on the world by yourself, just like in the real world...the rest of the world will respond and come back at you in mass. I found that the game was pretty balanced in that EVERYTHIING has a counter. Folks mentioned the helicopters are over powered, but then again...how many have you lost due to being careless with them? You can only make so many. You can only have so many troops on the battle map at once. And if you make helo strong armies the AI enemies respond with Anti-Air strong armies to counter. There are a few annoying things that the game doesnt explain well that you pretty much have to just figure out or seems like programming bugs. Like using biological warfare on someone can effect your troops as well in same areas they were used until side effects wear off. This can lead to their movement points are restricted to the point that now your troops are locked into only the easiest terrain on battle maps. This means that part of your army can be cut off on the battle maps by hills and mountains and effectively isolated from rest of your troops / enemy. There's nothing to tell you it will happen until in the battle AND you cant do anything about it when it happens except finish the battle. It seems like a bug because the game doesnt explain what's going on, but once you figure it out the end result is you end up fighting more tactically / conventionally vs just bombing the crap out of every territory with WMDs and then just walking in w/o a fight. Just like in the real world you dont crap on a territory you want then expect to not get some poo on your boots when you get there! The global campaign is a game of weeks, not hours or even days. If you dont have the patience for that level of planning or strategy, then you should pass this one by. To actually get the most enjoyment out of this game there is a VERY steep self-teaching learning curve but once you do spend the time I found myself lost in the planning and strategy for days at a time. There are a few mild bugs with the game / AI, but nothing that stopped me from conquering the world. But in the campaign mode the campaign missions are not optional. If you do not finish them, you dont "win" even if you outright conquer everyone else w/o them. I also found finishing them early / indirectly at times causes game to get stuck on needing to fill them later. This game pretty much demands Save, Learn, and Reload! But can be very rewarding and great distraction.
