I might come back to this game someday—but honestly, I found it boring and kind of empty. Yeah, they had events, but you couldn’t really do anything. No minigames, no real interactions—just… nothing. The whole game felt unfinished. What do you actually do? You farm animals, plant seeds, water them… I guess it has the basics you'd expect from a farming game, but none of it is done well. I'm sorry, but I just can't recommend anyone play this game in 2025. Maybe if I had actually finished the first year— which I really wanted to do—I'd feel differently. But I don’t think so. I think I made it to fall and just lost all motivation. And that’s saying something, because I’m the kind of person who usually gets addicted to a great farming game, plays it nonstop, and doesn't put it down for days. But this one? Not even close.

Where to start? hm...First of all Anyone who knows Story of Season derived from Harvest Moon knows they r similar games only difference is they branched off...I think this is the same game as it was for Gameboy or Advance or DS? just a remake ...it's a few years old by now i got it for a discount all the SoS games cost a lot! not even below 100 RMB which is what i use as currency to buy Steam games. Ok...the story is very simple u get a farm as heritage since your grandpa died, and now it's time for u to rebuild it...I played the absolute first Harvest Moon for SNES which was many years ago and loved it...now this is quite ok for a HM game...the positive is it keeps its cuteness and the cows and horse and pets r super cute...although i never liked the design of the bunnies and alpacas and sheeps a big fluffy part hanging over their eyes....NO. The Town is very simple a dozen to 20's of characters. a few boys and girls to choose from to marry and even sprites r back from HM...u make friends with them and u can get affection from hearts with your possible candidate to spouse. Even the Harvest Goddess herself. Although I never heard of this Kappa character since I haven't played any other than the 1st of HM on SNES. Some positivities is now u can water and harvest the middle spot in the 3x 3 formation! And u get a horse to ride ...i don't remember if u could in HM 1...and u can upgrade your tools to more than gold...i think Diamond ws the highest quality in HM1 which is 4 upgrades in total...also it's super easy to upgrade and earn money in this FoMT, I got the max bag already as early as Spring before summer. I haven't finished the game yet so can't say too much about the entire game. The negative stuff is u don't get much tips like hints and so on how to maximize the Affection cap the hearts on your farm animals...it took me some while to figure out... and the Power Berries there r not many hints n how to find them which is extremely difficult if u haven't played many HM or SoS games...same goes for recipes, u have to learn it from people yes i gethat but it took me long time to figure out u can learn from TV and such cuz not many people bother with it if u r a casual HM/SoS gamer...another thing that is bothersome is when u harvest your crops the controls don't really make it precise to aim on te next field or spot of the adjacent crop...u have to like move a little bit further or move back and forth to aim down te adjacent spot...and it's very time consuming unless u have got sprites to help u...also if u play from keyboard and mouse...the backspace is the only key that makes u "go back/cancel" to the game...or right click with mouse hope they can improve it so u can for example set "Esc" to cancel ...all in all the spontaneous review i got and score for the game...is 6/10 could be better if they fix a few things like these...Maybe i will change my opinion in te future...it's worth buying if it cheap but not worth more than 200 RMb right now...glad i got it for like 60 or 70...major summer sale price

STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town is a heartfelt and immersive farming simulation that beautifully revitalizes the classic gameplay of its beloved predecessor while infusing it with modern enhancements and a warmly inviting atmosphere. Developed by Marvelous, this game offers players the chance to step into a charming rural world where agriculture, community, and personal relationships intertwine to create a deeply satisfying life simulation experience. Whether you’re tending crops, raising animals, or building bonds with townsfolk, the game captures the essence of small-town life with sincerity and attention to detail. At its core, the gameplay focuses on managing a farm that players inherit, providing an open-ended sandbox to cultivate crops, nurture livestock, and upgrade your homestead. The farming mechanics are thoughtfully designed, allowing for gradual progression as you unlock new seeds, tools, and farming techniques. Seasons play a crucial role, influencing what can be planted and when, which adds a natural rhythm and planning element that encourages players to strategize throughout the year. Raising animals such as cows, chickens, and sheep is equally rewarding, with care routines that contribute to farm productivity and bring a sense of attachment to your animal companions. Beyond farming, Friends of Mineral Town shines in its community and relationship-building aspects. The town’s residents are fully fleshed-out characters with their own personalities, daily routines, and stories to uncover. Players can forge friendships, participate in festivals, and even pursue romantic relationships culminating in marriage and starting a family. These interactions add emotional depth and motivation, enriching the gameplay loop with social goals alongside agricultural ones. The writing is charming and often humorous, with heartwarming moments that make the world feel alive and inviting. Visually, the game embraces a colorful and stylized aesthetic that retains the nostalgic pixel-art charm of the original while incorporating modern polish. The environments are vibrant and detailed, from lush fields and quaint town streets to serene forests and riversides. Animations are smooth and expressive, enhancing the sense of immersion and making daily activities like watering crops or interacting with villagers feel lively. The soundtrack complements this atmosphere perfectly, featuring a collection of soothing and catchy tunes that reflect the seasons and moods of Mineral Town. Gameplay is further enriched by a variety of side activities and mini-games that break up the farming routine. Fishing, mining, and foraging offer additional ways to earn income and gather resources, while festivals and contests provide entertaining challenges and opportunities to deepen relationships. The game’s pacing is well-balanced, giving players freedom to explore and experiment at their own speed without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Progression is steady but rewarding, with new content and upgrades gradually unlocking to keep the experience fresh. While Friends of Mineral Town excels in many areas, it does present a few minor limitations. Some players might find the farming mechanics repetitive over time, especially during extended play sessions without much variation in daily tasks. Additionally, the game's open-ended nature means that goals are largely player-driven, which might not appeal to those who prefer more structured objectives or narrative focus. However, these aspects are largely subjective and are outweighed by the game’s relaxing and engrossing qualities. In summary, STORY OF SEASONS: Friends of Mineral Town is a lovingly crafted farming and life simulation that successfully marries nostalgia with contemporary design. It offers a rich, multifaceted experience where players can lose themselves in the rhythms of rural life, cultivate meaningful relationships, and build their dream farm at their own pace. With its charming characters, beautiful visuals, and deep gameplay systems, it stands as a standout title for fans of the genre and anyone seeking a peaceful yet engaging virtual escape to the countryside. To start things off: I was playing this game in Japanese as a learner, it does have Furigana, which helps a lot, but it is not in the menus or books etc., only in conversation. Still nice to have some of it to understand the story better without having to run every sentence with unknown kanji through translators to see if I may know the word itself already. If you're interested in playing something Japanese, this game has a lot of simple text, so it should be pretty approachable to almost anyone who doesn't mind running things through google lens. You can turn Furigana on or off to your liking. It also has a lot of repetition, so you'll really get good with these basic sentences! Now to the game itself! I have been playing on a controller and liked the controls, but my wife prefers the keyboard and this game has god awful keyboard controls. The esc key isn't even used, you go to the menu using what feels like random buttons, use backspace to get back out of the menu or have to rightlclick (which is better, but doesn't even get explained) Anyway, I highly recommend using a controller because of the poor keyboard optimizations. Sadly the game has some performance issues, having stuff randomly slow down a lot when using Vsync. Turn it off, it will have some tearing, but at least it seems to work without any other troubles. Another issue with the game is, that it has a bug regarding the special event about horseracing. If you don't play the game in the same language your system is set to, you won't see the betting odds, or how many medals you bought or how many medals you own or something costs.. anything related to that are just blank spaces. The characters are all very lovable though, I really enjoy seeing their stories and how they interact in them! The interactions between the different characters are very cute, I like all the stories going on and getting to know all of these characters! The artworks are also very cute, really well done! I also really like that Farm Map. It shows you where your animals are, if there's eggs to collect in the barn, which crops are planted, if they are watered or not and where the little helpers are. So no running around checking everything, you just see it in a single buttonpress! It has a lot to do, most of which gets explained in books from the library or tutorials, however some things you'll simply have to find out... or do some research... I wish some things would have been clearer without me having to google or check a guide. Knowing everything would be lame too, but some things are a bit weird, so I really think those should simply be explained somewhere ingame. It does have a few instances of being annoying sometimes. Like how specific events can only be triggered in a very specific day, with specific weather and time, which may or may not get triggered anyway, because the npcs aren't present at that spot...? Just try it another day, it'll work at some point. The horse you get later on to ride on, is kinda big, it seems to get in the way a lot, when trying to go past it. Should have just been made walk through imo. (I noticed very late that the button that moves yourself forward, lets you run through all kinds of animals and townspeople. Makes this much better...) It also wants you to grind... a lot. You absolutely have to breed animals to be able to get higher hearts and therefor better products and also to be able to win certain events you need at least 8 hearts. The most you can get without breeding is 5 and you only gain 1 heart per breeding process. It also takes a long time to finish and to get the hearts up. The mines are unneccessarily long too. Stuff like that. So if you're wanting to go and hunt all achievements, you'll be playing this game over at least 200 hours. while a normal playthrough to have seen everything will be closer to 100 hours. Which means that you will be doing 100 hours of just feeding animals, go to sleep, repeat. Or reloading your save for several hours to get X Wool, as this drops very rarely and can't be crafted etc. But other than that, I am pretty happy with how everything was done in this game. If you just want to have fun, play the main story, see all cutscenes, get married and you're done! Much better than grinding mindlessly for hours haha
