Haven't gotten a chance to use this too much yet but I already absolutely love it! It just checks all the boxes for me. Something easy to learn, but with enough nuance that you can produce what you need. Built in smd and vtf support is amazing! Super happy with my purchase!

I bought this for a few reasons: 1) for making very low-poly models 2) to replace Blender 3) for a simple non-confusing UI why replace blender? Because. i have found that with every update they change something i use.. from keybinding to UI & some old tutorials no-longer work as they should which makes using the program seem like driving a plane/tank without help & the program seems to be more for high-res modelling than anything low-res. why low-poly modelling? Well.. i just like its style.. i enjoy the style of old games such as AloneInTheDark 1/2/3 as a games not always about graphics its bout enjoying the experience. - Thoughts so far This program kHED is a nice little program (I also have the free version), i have not used it a lot.. i did try yesterday to manipulate a sphere but ended-up button mashing & made a deranged flowerpot.. instead of extruding parts or manipulating the shape how i wanted....... so i think with a little guidance & a few tutorials this would be a great bit of software, especially if it can do nearly as much as blender but for low-poly modelling. I have no idea what the difference from this to the free old one is.. but im guessing its animation, more formats supported etc?

Extremely buggy: constant crashes (when importing, when adding/removing bones), textures won't load (error while loading texture) but if you try it again it loads. Very frustrating.

I've used kHED before, but I'm now having issues, I'm not sure if it's because of Windows 10 or not but whenever I try to move the views by CTRL+Mouse movement, both the 3d view and 2d views jump around uncontrollably making the software unusable, if anyone has a solution I would like to hear it to give this a thumbs up instead. Update: I figured out the problem, it's G-SYNC, somehow it causes the program to go haywire. To fix this, go to Manage 3D Settings in NVIDIA Control Panel. Then click the Program Settings tab and customize kHED by disabling G-SYNC.

I've been a huge fan and frequent user of kHED since its 1.1.4 iteration. I used it for many of the Pepakura templates I designed and shared online, notably the many "Dark Souls" ones. When I was first learning 3D, on my own, kHED was singularly by far the easiest (free at the time) studio out there to get the hang of, out of many dozens tried, and yet with such basic tools proved extremely capable of the type of models and complexity-level that I was interested in. As I gradually got better at Blender, though, I did eventually migrate to Blender as my go-to for 3D-modeling for papercraft and 3D-printing; and yet there's still some features that either I just still don't know how to find and use in Blender, or in fact kHED still does them more quickly and easily. For polygonal 3D-modeling, kHED is always the first software I strongly recommend to new 3D-modeling beginners. It's useful for most basics, without the bewildering confuddlement of trying to navigate Blender and its stealthy hotkey menus. By the way, I did technically receive kHED for free, but that was versions 1.1.4 and 1.1.5. 1.1.5 was what I used the most of, and when the thread where it had been disseminated disappeared, I just considered it kHED to be lost gem, and shared an under-the-table copy with at least two friends. I was surprised and very happy to find the project simply migrated to Steam, including receiving a few final updated releases. Of course, only too happy to finally pay for my copy. Well done, good sir!

I don’t review much, but I feel compelled to do so with this product. As a game developer I’ve used 3DS Max for years but after they moved to a subscription model I was done with it for personal use. I’ve searched since November for a replacement. After buying / trying various other software with mediocre results I stumbled on kHED. I immediately loved it, it is extremely easy to use. I feel at ease now knowing that I have something in my toolbox to cover the loss of 3DS. Can it do everything that 3DS can? Of course not. Does it cover all the basics for modeling and texturing? Absolutely! For me that’s 99% of what I did with 3D studio. kHED is excellent! Thank you so much for making this software, it answered my prayers!

Although kHED cannot compete with Blender, it does not have to. Simple models can be created quickly, or high-quality models can be created if the user works intensively and spends the appropriate amount of time.

A useful and easy to learn, albeit very dated modelling software, i'm using it to make models for a CS:GO map. I cant seem to get the function to Export as MDL working, so I export as a Half Life SMD and use StudioCompiler to make the MDL. Very few tutorials exist on this software, (that aren't in Russian) but that gives kHED a kind of esoteric charm. Overall would recommend for prop modelling novices.

kHED is a low-poly 3D modeling software which I believe to be a derivative from Milkshape 3D (though I could be wrong). It's powerful for what it does, and has primarily been used for source modding. The main appeal is how intuitive it is. It's very easy to take some reference material and start creating simple models. It has a low entry barrier compared to something like Blender. And (I believe) in the more recent Steam versions you can also rig and animate your models.

Khed, Although an older piece of software, is very straight forward and rather easy to grasp. It doesn't have the power that, let's say, comes with Blender, or 3DS Max, but it provides more than enough options and features for the small time hobby game designer. For instance, use Khed to create your custom obj models. Convert those .obj models with the freeware autodesk .fbx convertor and you got your custom assets ready to go with things like Game Guru. Khed is not meant for the AAA dev audience, nor does it try to be. But, if you like to get your hands on 3D modelling, but find things like Blender to hard to learn; give this a try. It will show you the basics and provides a solid foundation to build, expand, upon.
