The fact that the devs still support and bring out new content for a game thats several years old and still breathes in life to it is why I love this game and the studio, I'll gladly pay for a DLC in support

I was waiting for this one to go on a 50% sale but I bought it at the full price since it's really nice to see the devs still working on an old game and bring possibilites for modders.
The dlc itself is worth the full price anyway.

Take my money Stardock, this dlc is the best you've made so far, adds so much to the native game, and also the mods, thank you for staying with us and supporting this game over the years #Legends

Seriously speaking, I'm an old school guy in terms of strategy in rts. Never make allies and play like a lone wolf and believe in blowing every other AI opponent up. That's why, till date, I've built envoy ships in only some 7 to 8 matches out of the total 130+ matches I've played till date. Coz I found them to be pretty stupid and they need research to minimize those inter-species relationship losses. And since I am a heavily defensive player, this would mean that I'll be saving every penny for fortifications and research and resource gathering upgrades and lowest number of ships so I can cut my upkeep costs. But with this DLC, there's finally a reason those envoys aren't stupid anymore. I loved the capabilities of the factions although could've been better if I could give commands to their capital ships as well (please let me know below if that can be done). So far, I've witnessed the Advent cultists, the TEC miners and another TEC mercenary faction (that just keeps on building a Marza which just stands there near the base and does nothing, to which I have no idea why!) and yet to witness others. But it's been a pleasure playing this DLC.

A bit underwhelmed by this DLC, but that is just me. I'll give a thumbs up because you can use the DLC and play with friends that don't own it, and they'll still get the benefit so that is cool.
I've been playing this game back since it's original release, well before starbases, titans, or even the inclusion of the Diplomacy tab and all the research/options it brings. Not saying that to brag... just pointing out that up until now, I've stood by every expansion/DLC release as they really did seem to add something good to the game.
For whatever reason, the Minor Factions DLC just doesn't do it for me.
The minor factions are, simply put, like a neutral pirate base planet, except that in the case of minor faction planets, you can take control of them with an envoy ship and then gain access to small fleets and/or abilities offered by the planet once you control it.
My gripe is that many of the abilities offered are just copies of abilities that many of the capital ships have... diluting the uniqueness and advantages of some factions. Because of that, it made this DLC seem like a simple cash grab with some abilities swapped from capital ships over to planets... all to get people's attention while the winter sale was going on.
I can't complain too much as I jumped right in and bought the DLC without really looking as I figured I'd love it right away like the rest, but again, my personal opinion is that Minor Factions is just an underwhelming cash grab.

It's an ok dlc but there is a massive bug where the AI abuses a minor faction to wipe out the pirates. Now on a long game that will cause the game to slow down and finally crash. This bug doesn't happen every game it is a bit tricky but it happens often enough.
So how does this happen:
- AI sends minor faction to attack pirates
- minor faction does not have any ship type in it's mix that can attack planets
- AI will now spam the send faction until the pirates are defeated (they can't be since the planet cant be touched)
- game dies due to a hilarious amount of faction warships at the pirate base
So if you like to play big games with bots you can:
- not use this dlc
- disable pirates when using this dlc
- hope you get lucky (some minor factions can assault planets; not every AI type does this)

I am pretty surprised that Sins of A Solar Empire just released new affordable DLC given that its over ten years old. The quality of the DLC is top notch for the price and the series is really worth a try in 2018 if you like both RTS and 4X games. This DLC adds a lot of depth to an already celebrated series and this is hopefully a signal of more to come. (I.E Sins 2 not more DLC)

Just beat my first game with this dlc, absolutely love the minor factions, they give me a reason to actually use diplomatic ships. By far the best part of this dlc is the AI support for these minor factions, I've seen opponents send out diplomatic ships to take these minor factions as well as use their unique abilities leading to some really interesting situations.

Minor Factions dlc is a small but solid addition for under $6. I bought it because of the new features obviously but another reason is because the devs are still supporting a game that is 6+ years old. Hats off to them and happy holidays.
