Good tutorial, true to the original miniatures game. It's like playing WoG using the plane cards rather than 3D miniatures. Provides opportunity to fight dogfights with one or more planes per side plus special missions and challenges. Only concern: available planes per side: four types each, although you can apply your preferred ace's paint schemes, which makes you feel like you have 16 models to play with. The available planes are perhaps the most popular, however, I hope that additional planes will become available. Good deal at $15.

If you have the Wings of Glory or older Wings of War WWI board/miniature game and can't find others to play, this game is perfect. If you're seeking an arcade experience, this isn't your title.

I was looking at getting into this on the tabletop side of things and started feeling a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of planes to choose from when getting started. I happened upon the PC version while doing a general "Wings of Glory" Google search and jumped on it as a way to "try before I buy" and take the plunge on a bunch of minis.
Gotta say, I'm pleasantly surprised! The tutorial drops you right in and once you've gone through a couple of turns everything just makes sense. The UI is presented very clearly and lets you see what's going on behind the curtain as far as tabletop mechanics go. At the moment, It looks like each side only has access to four planes but I'm hoping this roster is expanded at some point soon to include some of the aforementioned variety that's available in the tabletop version.
Going to stop reviewing now so I can jump back in the cockpit!

Great fun game, a good copy of the miniatures game. On the downside the playing area is small and the number of planes in a game is very low. Also the choice of plans is very limited, my favourite is missing!!!
Could do with a series of Campaigns as well.
Think there is plenty of room for an expansion or two.

Got this bc I cont find many people to play the table top version of the game. The mechanics are the same however you get the cool visuals from being on a computer. I also dont have to worry about the miniatures getting broken in transit. My only issue is that there is a lack of aircraft when compared to the table top version, only about 8 or so that come with the game. Overall though I really enjoy playing

No campaign, no anything, and looks like abandonware.
Nice tech demo of what could've been, but there's nothing to this game.
Definitely pass on getting this game, and I will delete this game and never buy anything from Dire Wolf ever again...

OK, after a few games, I must agree, the very small map makes the game more frustrating than fun. Sadly.
I can see liking it...it is a very good implementation of the Table Top game, that I really enjoy, but the small play area makes multiple planes / side almost unplayable and interesting tactics such as disengage, maneuver, escape, reengage, actions untenable. As it stands, you basically move, shoot, move, shoot, move, shoot - each turn.
Once that problem is fixed and larger (MUCH larger) maps are available so numerous planes can have some fun - and maybe a campaign so your pilot "levels up" gaining "Ace perks" (or something like that) etc. etc. (wish list) - comes around, this game will be legit solid.
So, for now, I cant suggest it, but later, if an update "fixes" this, big Thumbs-up.

If you want a pretty bare bones sample of the board game its good. If you are expecting anything else its not. Players are requesting a larger map(map IMO is small and dosnt scroll) on discustion, more plans (currently 4 per side max 3 per player and no SE5a which is pretty odd to me.} but no response on any form from the devs yet. So pretty much this is it, like so many turn based air fighter games released plop this is what you get drop mic. Not saying its not fun to try but, its basic with no signs of having more.
Stand Corrected, Game map has been changed. Still needs more plans and combatant number options but definitly shows life in the DEV's. Would hold of a bit more if your pressed for cash but it is playable.

The premise is fine. The gameplay is fine. The content is too minimal. The game needs more planes and a proper campaign. Otherwise, after a couple of hours, it is just boring.

So far this is as close to the tabletop version of a complex game you are going to get - Necromunda: Underhive Wars, take notes here. Games can be set to use the Standard or Advanced rules (if you want to use Basic rules, literally find anyone to play with IRL, I've taught my parents and sister to play the Basic rules). Like the tabletop version, estimating where you and your opponent will end up after maneuvers is the key skill. It's also why I cannot give a true review of the AI's skill.
If I think it will turn once then go straight and it goes straight then turns, my moves may be all for naught. But I've seen dumb AI before and I have not seen dumb AI moves in this game. I can say that the solo Challenges took a couple-to-many tries each to win them, and I did so by changing my strategy, not by memorizing what the AI opponent does, so I think that is at least one mark in favor of the programmers.
Airplane selection is limited for now, we expected so, but you get several options for those airframes to increase variability. For example, with the Roland C. II, you can choose a to have a front gun in addition to your rear gunner or not. A very unexpected and welcome feature is the ability to adjust the HP of your aircraft in order to change its total points cost. Want to fly a Dr. I with a specific ace but it's one point over the battle limit? Reduce your airplane's HP by 1 to free up those points. You can also adjust the effectiveness of the Explosion damage card in your matches, useful to help build your skills and prevent the dreaded "How TF did that happen?" first shot outcome. The ability to pick a real ace with his picture and notable skills is appreciated. After all, it was these men who put their life and more on the line for their countries, while we are just making electrons dance.
Is there anything truly bad or wrong with the game? I cannot say yes to that. Being on fire sucks, having your pilot hit sucks, and facing off against a two-seater aircraft with a fighter sucks. But these are all true to the tabletop version, and also true to real life. I've encountered no bugs, no "hey, that wasn't supposed to happen!". I supposed we can thank the underlying system for its ease of play, but they also could have had no animated planes or effects and many of us would have still bought it. Are there things I would change? Yes, but they are minor quality of life changes. It is not readily apparent, if it is at all, which gun is jammed when one does on a two-seater. The intro movies are fine for 1 plane per side, but I'd like to see all the planes fly past if there are more than one. They did spend the effort to give us the cool personalized schemes that the pilots had, so let's see 'em!
TL;DR: Only the third game I've bought release day in the last two years, and the only one that wasn't so far from my expectations for it that I was badmouthing it by the end of the day. One of those was Cyberpunk 2077, because who honestly didn't have that reaction to it? The other I will not say, as I have found peace with its ways, and will occasionally play a level of it.
