The Qaedon Wars - The Story Begins Reviews

Desing and story telling concept just makes me lose my self in this game.

At a first Qaedon wars doesn't look very impressive, and it does suffer from it a bit. But if you don't mind that aspect, you'll find the game to be a good rpg experience. Definitely a good pick for fans of games like Age of Fear for example.

If graphics are important to you, you will probably be disappointed. But! If you can look past that, you will find a pretty great Strat/RPG here! So please come and partake of this goodness and support this Dev, so he can bring us more of his awesome jams! DO IT!

I bought the game on sale. I was afraid to buy the game for a full price seeing very view reviews. The game is rough around the edges - mostly UI could use a lot of polish, however the gameplay is rather unique and I really like the setting. There's a lot of things you can customize, some really nice and unique features like unlocking expensive abilities from different classes for a hefty price. You also control a lot more units in typical tactical games. It is a mix of battle for wesnoth with something slighty similar to Baldurs Gate. I would call this Icewind Dale with turn based combat where you control a lot of characters. I'm really looking forward to the game. There is a huge potential - just more feedback and polishness is required!

I like the game. Reminds me a lot of the original Fantasy General, but more d&d-ish. The game is the first of a trilogy and it will be interesting to see how it develops.

I think I completed the game, at least to the point of seizing the port, ship and defending against the counterattack. I hit the green arrow, which usually takes me the next turn, campaign map, etc., but the game froze and disappeared. I restarted it but only got a screenshot of the port and ship with no characters, good or bad, at all. I think there are additional battles, but not for me, it appears. The buying, selling and transferring of items is sooo long and tedious a process, as well. Having said all that, I am a big fan of turn-based, tactical hex-grid games, like military chess, and felt that this game, once improved, would be great. But it is worth the money, and will give you hours of cool battles. So, in all, I do recommend this to others who like this genre, especially since there are so few good games of this type around.

UPDATE - waiting to replenish your health is a must. I have replayed the 1st mission aboout 15 times. You cannot win. Its impossible. You start with random equipment and skills, you cannot guarantee getting an archer. So you just have tons of monsters and bad guys that destroy you and u dont have healing spells. You might have 3 clerics or half clerics, and no healing spells. You dont start with armor, or get armor from defeating bad guys. Its just impossible. What are people doing to win? ? ? ? ? ?

This is an interesting game. It is a combination of the old tabletop hex style tactics games like Starship Troopers and fantasy games like Dungeons and Dragons. It is quite challenging. I would call this a hardcore game. Much less of a generalist. I like it because it is very challenging. I have finished three campaigns so far in the last two days. It took me a little while to understand the mechanics. They should have a few lets play Youtube videos.

A very early review... The game has a ton of promise but is at roughly 20% or less of campaign development. The engine seems to work well and is very reminiscent of Battle For Wesnoth. Each unit has it's own inventory, stats, level up capabilities etc... Tactical depth is a bit lacking but that is largely due to the existence of only 2 missons so far and well, how in-depth do RPG characters of Level 1 or 2 really get? Definitely looks at though it will be worth the price if you enjoy deeply statistical turn-based RPG combat. Give it a go.

This game was a real surprise. The graphics aren't the greatest, but sometimes you really just don't need fancy stuff to make a solid and enjoyable game. I thoroughly played through the game, replaying several scenarios and completing about all I could, and managed to squeeze out 40+ hours of enjoyment. That's a great rate for how much this costs. I dug around looking for more expansion and campaigns, only to be saddened none exist (yet?). I highly recommend this game. It's fun!
