Different from the first 2 games, this one it's an open world survival with rpg mechanics, very cool and enjoyable, lot of things to do, addictive. With every update is always getting better!

Was a huge fan of the first two games, so I was excited about diving into the world of Do&De again. Crafting games aren't normally my favorite, but this one keeps things simple enough that I can manage (no hunger/thirst meters, THANK YOU), I'm also not a fan of item deterioration, but it makes sense with the crafting. so far I've explored 11 different islands. the puzzles are pretty straighforward so far, but the crafting really drags out progressing the story, especially when your weapons and armor break and you have to make new ones.
Still hoping for more story to come, but since i don't do crafting games often it may take me a while.

Multiplayer 2p was significantly bugged.
It forgets which player controls which characters.
Loading seems to randomize who gets who.
Drowning together in 2p can cause the camera to lock somewhere away from both characters.
It seems to forget which blueprints we've unlocked.
There was no immediate email response from the dev when we sent screenshots and tried to get help with these issues.

One of my favorite gaming series and this addition does not disappoint. The base game serves perfectly by itself, but those looking for more nerdtastic fun would be well served to splurge on the Season Pass, because each DLC serves new mechanics, challenges, characters, locations, items, gear, and more! For those new to the DoD series, do yourself a favor and check out "Doom and Destiny" and "Doom and Destiny Advanced"; they're a steal even when not on sale and well worth the many hours of story building and laughs they offer!

I really want to like this game, and there are definitely elements I enjoy. The local co-op is the only reason I have 30+ hours, I'm not a big fan but my co-op companions enjoy it enough(plus I'm an achievement whore). Sailing around exploring and crafting with friends is a neat concept and we have fun moments. Unfortunately, most of the time the game is boring or frustrating. Firstly, the combat system is just stupid imo: You have to drop SP(stamina which you also use for skills) before you can damage anyone, but then nobody can do more than 1 damage to anyone's HP. Secondly, the crafting is fairly generic and equipment is pretty much the only way to increase your characters' power. So you just end up slightly upgrading the same items when find a new material. Also, there are quite a few bugs(and translation issues) but the devs have been fixing bugs quite consistently. Ultimately, I really like what the game is going for but I think it misses the mark.

Although I was a major fan of the previous D&D games and I advise a lot of people to try them, I'm on the fence about this one. I first did a negative review because I was frustrated after another game crash in which I thought my save game was unrecoverable, until I discovered that the makers have taken into account storing multiple save points, so I was to recover my game only moments before the fatal game state where I thought I lost 30+ game hours.
The crafting side of the game makes it very slow meaning that even with 30hour game play you can't get much done.
The battles are also difficult, leveling up doesn't really give you much advantages in weaponized or magic attacks, even what I think should be common easy enemies can still kill you because of the battle system. I discovered that throwing weapons
You need to find the right items to make the right weapons meaning you are spending 90% of your time resource managing instead of RP'ing
Not what I was looking for in this game.
Why am I then advising to play the game?
Because I see the devs still doing their best to fine tune the game and bring enhancements.
If you haven’t played the first 2 installments go for them first before starting this one.

still a fun game but not good as first two games
New combat mechanic suck (can't believe it, they only making it worse and worse each game, first one still the best)
most islands are big empty
level up is pointless
craft new gears are pointless too, they almost the same

Remember when you play Terraria, and you are annoyed that you have to switch between axe, hammer, and pickaxe to mine different things?
Also remember when you play BOTW and your weapons break?
If you are a psychopath and love both of those boy do I have a game for you. Your main weapon take the same slot as your tool, so when you enter battles and forgot that you equip a shovel, have fun running away. The inventory system spread across 4 characters yet you kinda treat them as 1, but they are not, so make sure the thing you craft is hold by the right person!
I loved D&D1 and 2, but I cannot even progress pass the first part of the game because im too busy inventory managing and running back and forth
Also, if you decide to dig a skull, make sure to approach it from the correct direction or otherwise nothing happens! Can you take furniture you crafted with you? No idea! I am sure the game is super great, but I cannot even get past switching back and forth and back and forth to make sure I can shovel stuff out of my way.

UPDATE EDIT: Initial review was a tentative recommend. After additional hours in the game, I personally just don't find it fun. At all. New updates have improved things somewhat but man...what a slog. This game just tries to do a lot and ultimately just does it all poorly. I just finished up Littlewood which really nails down the building/mat farming. Terraria has the mining/building/inventory management down pat. Stardew Valley does the best at the mix. D&D 1 was leaps and bounds more fun with the battle system. D&DW just doesn't come remotely close to any of their refinement.
Battles:
- Even crafting higher tier gear I find battles extremely difficult to the point where I can only string maybe a few in a row before needing to rest. I find the whole system so unintuitive, more so than any game I've played in recent memory. Enemies seem grossly overpowered compared to what you're able to do. Leveling up seems to...give some perks every few levels and let you use different gear? I certainly feel no more powerful at level 6/7 than I did at level 1.
Farming:
- The durability is still brutal, even with higher tier gear. I HATE the controls. My god. Why can't there be a singular pickax/shovel/ax instead of having to constantly scroll around to select the tools? It's so confusing to keep track of your characters, their weapons, what tool you need to use where, and then, god forbid, you get into a battle and you want/have to re-equip things while enemies keep rolling in. By selecting a character's favorite weapon/tool, you automatically make them first, rearranging your whole party. It's hard to keep track of who's who. And then, good luck if you manage to keep all of that together because your inventory will be completely full and then...it's time to slog back.
Inventory management:
- Good luck dropping all of those materials back at a base. Either build 30 chests or create a detailed spreadsheet as to where you put the materials. No auto deposit is a killer. Aside from that, character inventory management I find oddly exasperating. So MANY clicks/presses to do so few things. Auto arrange in the character inventory is fine but you can't lock items in place so...again, good luck with organization.
Building:
- Building bases/places also is very cumbersome. It'll look a mess. It'll feel a mess. And it too, isn't fun. Accidentally place the wrong block? Welp, there goes 20% of your pickax or shovel durability trying to remove it. A dedicated build mode would be far better.
TL;DR
To be sure, there is a somewhat decent base game here. But it needs a LOT of work. It feels like an alpha release at this point. I'll keep on following the game to see if the updates fix the issues. I'd recommend you do the same.

This is an early-ish impression of the game shortly after release.
D&DW is far different from previous entries. It's a mix between standard RPG + Terraria/Minecraft. But, mixing up the formula I do like at this point.
The heavy crafting elements are both a strength and weakness. I find the item durability to be fairly frustrating and it really slows down the pace of exploring/farming for materials. I get through a few battles and an island or two and have to reforge new gear since things are either broken or about to break. Higher tier items help extend durability but I still find myself doing a lot of back and forth traveling.
Speaking of travel, it's slow going traveling between islands via swimming or raft (thus far) but not unpleasant. General walking/running movement speed on the island is spot on and exploring the islands I find a bright spot.
The battle system is redone. Players/enemies have a shields bar and a life bar. Life cannot be reduced (as far as I have seen thus far) until the shields have been broken. Shields slowly regenerate each turn but each turn that passes reduces how much shields recharge. Each attack only deals one health damage once shields are broken. Enemies will also continue to join the battle if you're taking too long. It creates a unique approach to battles. I still have yet to really figure out a decent battle strategy especially stringing multiple battles together trying to manage health, equipment durability and the fairly challenging battles. Good news is that you can see enemies on the screen and avoid if necessary.
Where I find the game falls REALLY flat is inventory management. There's a big inspiration, it seems to me at least, from Terraria and Minecraft. Except, D&DW has few of these games quality of life mechanisms. I find it really difficult to manage inventories of 4 characters efficiently, especially managing the active weapon/tool AND switching things around in battles. The worst is trying to manage item storage in chests around your camps. There's no "deposit all" or "deposit same" button" into nearby chests like in Terraria, so depositing and organizing storage is VERY timing consuming, requiring item by item deposition to keep things organized. It's also unclear how item crafting stations work in regards to item storage. Crafting definitely pulls from storage - I just don't know from how far away. Plus, it's a bit confusing as to what crafting stations do what. Each station seems to have the same exact options, but maybe some slightly subtly different additions depending on the station. Again, it's unclear if this pulls from nearby stations or not. As you can tell, I still haven't quite figured this out yet and the game never explains these minor but many minor details.
I've encountered only one bug this far. One formula for crafting I purchased from an NPC displayed something akin to "formula not valid." A few misspellings here and there during conversations. Nothing major thus far.
All in all, the game is enjoyable. It's definitely rough around the edges at this point and could benefit from some quality of life improvements. I would expect further refinement and changes as the updates roll in. Worth a buy on sale or wait a few months until the fixes and adjustments have come.
