I only recommend this game on sale to fans of the BTTF movies. It is a a bare bones point & click linear adventure game with many mildly infuriating components, but the story is a faithful 5 episode sequel to the BTTF movies. You play as Marty McFly in 1985 which starts with an homage to the first movie, but takes place after the 3 movies. I did enjoy this third episode, which poses an interesting question about Doc Brown's life, and it fit well within the greater story.

For fans of the movies, there really isn't much of a choice other than to play this series. "Back to the Future: The Game" is one of TellTale's earlier games, and it shows, with very limited choices and a linear story. The story itself also hews close to the original trilogy, down to the same feel when it comes to the final resolution. Voice acting isn't bad. Christopher Lloyd is around to voice Doc Brown, and Michael J. Fox makes a cameo near the end. They got other voice actors to play everyone else (including Marty McFly and the various Biffs), but they do a decent job. The music is great, right out of the movies. To be honest, if you go into this game expecting to be playing the movie (or an episode of the animated series), you'll know what you're in for. I really enjoyed this series back when it first came out, but it isn't as good as TellTale's later attempts.

Since Steam splits every episode of Back to the Future into a separate store page, unlike newer Telltale games, I'm just putting my review for the entire game here. A phenomenal adventure game that not only features great puzzles, but is driven by a funny, heatwarming story and incredible acting. It's the best sequel that Back to the Future has ever managed to produce, and made me genuinely care about the original movie even more.

Great series for BTTF! Made me go back and rewatch the movies. The voice acting is great, and the games are fun and a tad challenging at times. Perfect combo. <3

Very cool story, would honestly make a better movie than a game. The controls are pretty crap and there isn't much "gameplay" to speak of. I think the voice acting and story more than make up for it as Telltale games tend to be more story focused. If you like Back to the Future and wish maybe there was one more movie, you will like these.

A bit slow in that mid 2000's point and click adventure way but it's fun and feels like it could have been back to the future 4 or a mini series.

Preface: Each review is for an individual episode. But a rough ranking is here: Episode 1 - 8/10 Episode 2 - 9/10 Episode 3 - 10/10 [Current Review] Episode 4 - 6/10 Episode 5 - 10/10 The environment in Back to the Future's third episode came out of left field. I'm sure people can say it's sharing an idea from one of the movies, which is somewhat true. But I'd say this episode is probably the least like any of the movies, and yet it's still great. The episode starts off with a huge red flag (plot-wise) and your tension builds up as you keep meeting people and learn what's happening. This episode in particular was where I started feeling like these episodes together could represent what would have made another great movie for Back to the Future.

(*** of 5) As tell tale games go, this one also has an interesting stories with some unexpected turn. Still, it couldn't quite hook me. The game felt more like a point and click game. If you like that, go ahead and play it, if you don't, let it be. I really loved "life is strange" and compared to that, "Back to the future" feels awkward. Maybe it's just the outdated graphics, but i doubt it. The story just couldn't really make me dive into it... and the end was rather strange...

This episode focuses on an alternate reality. In which a dystopian government has complete control over Hill Valley. It's very similar in to world's presented in "Demolition Man" and "1984". Strong female characters with depth that aren't Mary Sues. The story is real solid, too. It has a message, but it doesn't get preachy. I'm not sure what else to say. Gameplay is similar to the first two episodes. There's some new music in this entry, and it's great. The voice acting is the same quality as the previous episodes. The only bad thing I can say is that I ran into a lot of graphic problems. Some things would fail to load properly. Especially animations right after scene transitions. Overall it was minor, and didn't take away from the experience.
