This game is a great, quick session type of game. Not sure what to play, don't have much time to play, this game will suit ya. It has a high skill ceiling though, so expect to replay levels several times, but what's great here is it's all fast as hell. Not only that, but enemies carry slightly different stuff each round, so how you upgrade your car and which weapons you pick up will vary a bit each time for each level. More importantly, there's a no stress option you can kick in when you just wanna jam and smash enemies, so even if you don't have time to or want to "get gud" they've got ya covered. So if you like games such as, say, Super Hexagon, where the core concept is straightforward and levels are similar but increasingly difficult, Byte Driver is right up your alley...Plus you literally get to hack and blow up cars at increasingly absurd speeds, so what's not to love? Oh, but as the game says, controller is very much the way to play this game. There's keyboard and mouse support, and it works okay, but it's clearly better tuned for controllers. If you're a weirdo like me that prefers Dualshock controllers, just be aware that occasionally the game may forget your settings if you use a Dualshock 3 (PS3) controller, but there's a simple fix for that in the forums from the devs themselves and through the pre-game launcher. Nevertheless, excellent little game with, oh damn, almost forgot to mention this, an absolutely killer soundtrack! No joke, you'll be blasting through enemies and as the level transition hits and the slick as hell visual change happens, so too does the soundtrack and it's all wicked as hell. You'll want to get through levels just to see and hear things change and when it does it nails it! Seriously, check this out! (Oh and check out their other titles like Enemy Mind, R-Coil, Radical Solitaire, and the upcoming Rainbow Laser Disco Dungeon!)

I dig it. It's like if they made a Vectrex in 2019 but kept the scope of the games the same. The whole car hacking/scanning thing is a really clever mechanic and makes this a fun little game.

What a hidden gem! Hard and classic gameplay with retro graphics. Once you got the hang of the controls it becomes really enjoyable. I recommend a controller, it feels way more natural to play. 7 / 10

Byte Driver does everything it says it wants to on the tin. Crazy arcade car racing with lasers and frantic speeds . It uses minimalistic graphics and a lovely soundtrack to go along with the out there style of game play. PROS: Accessibility Options if you hate the screenshake, or the colors get to you. Various other options I didn't test as well that I don't want to confirm but probably work. Boss Fights, Yea I wasn't expecting bosses. Quite fun! The controls work really well on a controller, and with the mouse. I had no issues playing either way. CONS: I could only find the control scheme in the tutorial and it's a cut scene so you need to read fast. You can't change the controls at all. It uses the dial up modem noise. --- All in all. It's a nice and hard retro style racing game. Certainly worth it, and very fun. Also, the soundtrack is worth the extra money.

Byte Driver is a clever arcade driving game stylish vector graphics. The twist here is that as you drive, you are also trying to hack your rival cars to steal their energy and abilities. This means you'll have to carefully match speed and stay behind them for long enough to complete the hack. This becomes extra tricky once you reach a boss who who fires bullet patterns at you which you must dodge and weave around while staying within hacking range in order to steal their weapons and attack. All of this comes together to create a really interesting balance between fast reflexes, careful positioning, and careful decision making.
