This second entry in the Witches' Legacy series is OK, but unfortunately lacks the focus and atmosphere of the first. It is a direct continuation of the narrative, but instead of trying to tell a cohesive story it reaches into the grab bag of the usual clichés of the genre. Everything is mediocre. Uninteresting and boring characters, nonsensical point-and-click puzzles, and easy hidden-object scenes. Nothing is bad, but nothing is very good, either. The best aspect of the game is the imp's animation. Super cute and lively! But it's mostly window dressing. A half-hearted thumbs up.

Well, not bad ad all. They made a few improvements from the first game, like adding a map. Well, off to the next chapter...

This game is a joy to play and it's well-made. The story is strong and interesting, and the gameplay is great. Pros: + graphics + sound effects + voice acting + map + characters

All right, let’s start with a small gripe. This is the latest game in the Witches’ Legacy series to be released on Steam. However, it is also the earliest chronologically in the series. And based on the “Other Games” page... Well, we are missing “The Charleston Curse”. This is a slight annoyance to me, since I like reading/playing stories from the beginning… Anyway, you have apparently dealt with a witch before, and saved your relative Lynn (who is still a child). Unfortunately, the power within her has begun to manifest further and the witch you thought dead may not be so… extinct. Now, you must rush to save Lynn again. The plot is engaging, the HO scenes fun, and the minigames challenging. Get in the bundle.

This is an outstanding HOPA, full of both HO scenes and puzzles. Highly recommended, though for the greatest enjoyment, I suggest playing the first game in the series first (The Charleston Curse, which is finally available on Steam). The Lair of the Witch Queen is the second game in the Witches' Legacy series, and one of the best "old school" HOPA games I've played. The Short Version: 10/10 The Long Version: - Plentiful excellent HO scenes (word lists with a few "extra action required" challenges) - Lots of different puzzles, ranging from easy to moderately challenging - Beautiful art - Lovely music that is rarely annoying or intrusive - Excellent voice acting (the stressed out teen is a little extra at times, but it does fit the character, and she's also allowed to be mature and competent at times as well) - Likeable, intelligent protagonist - Well-presented story-line: nothing new, no real twists, and the secondary characters and villains are pretty two dimensional, but it's all appropriate to the fantasy / fairy tale feel of the story - Smooth controls, despite the age of the game - Fully interactive map with all the modern conveniences - Fully integrated Strategy Guide that includes all collectable object locations (if you want it, it's there) - Full bonus chapter that serves as the conclusion to the main game (I'd argue that it's really just part of the main game, but both the game and "bonus" are a good length) I have very little negative to say about this game. The graphics are a little dated, but even that's not bad. The introductory, "tutorial" portion of the game is the part I found the hardest to get into, and I suspect that's because I didn't use the tutorial. In a couple of HO scenes there were a couple of items with very picky hit boxes. Sadly, there are no Steam achievements (only in-game) or trading cards for this game. I wish there were, since the game deserves them. The game is worth full-price, but is also available as part of the Witches' Legacy bundle, and will periodically be on sale like most Steam games.
