Random slowdowns really kill it for me. It feels unoptimized and cheap. First ~7 levels in each world are enjoyable, but what follows after them is tedious and frustrating. Many designs for late-game levels feel very uninspired. Dev really loves making these "wall of temporary blocks and you have to get on the other side of this wall by only breaking blocks in the middle" type of things. It'd feel alright if only 1 world abused that mechanic, but no, you'll have to do the same platforming challenge over and over again. Add slippery controls on top of this and you get just your average meh game. There are many other platformers that you'd want to play instead of this one.

Quick Description:
-Not for the faint of heart, but well worth the cost of entry for precision platforming enthusiasts.
What's Good:
-Movement, jumping, and sense of control all feel really good. Solid overall fundamentals.
-Controls are simple and work well. You have a standard jump and a double jump that spins your character in the air.
-5 unique biomes that each introduce new environmental hazards and mechanics.
-Adorable bear main character w/ solid pixel art aesthetic.
-Doesn't overstay it's welcome, and every level feels fun and fresh.
-Doesn't waste the players time w/ too many early tedious levels. It quickly ramps up the difficulty and pushes the player to improve.
Could Use a Few Changes:
-No Coyote Time makes this a very challenging platformer.
-The hit boxes on all spikes are squares instead of triangles which makes every death feel very brutal.
-Doesn't do anything new or innovative.
-Very bare-bones game. You can't change the key bindings, there's no tutorial, there's no story, there aren't isn't even a pause menu.
Thoughts:
-I had a good time playing this. I snagged it for $5, and felt I got good value out of it. This is a good choice for fans of the genre that have already played Celeste, Super Meat Boy, N++, The End is Nigh, etc and are looking for another solid platformer to sink their teeth into.
Consensus:
-Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). It may not be the most creative game out there, but I think it's an easy recommendation when on sale, especially for precision platforming purists. Support a solo dev, it's only 5$ when on sale.

A visually cute but mechanically quite difficult little platformer that feels like a Super Meat Boy fangame, but a competently made one with some original enemy ideas. Aside from a few excessively long levels and some individual finicky jumps the level design is solid, and the game is short enough to feel fresh all the way through. A fun single-afternoon treat for precision platformer fans.

This game deserves more attention.
The platforming is super neat, it's one of these games during which you feel yourself improving
You don't rage upon dying because you know what went wrong, since it's so precise :)
A slightly better OST would have nailed it for me!

Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase.
Quick score: 5/5
Notes: This game is hard as fuck lmao don't be fooled by the cutesy graphics.
The game is split into 5 worlds, each with 10 levels. The worlds can be played in any order and each have their own unique aesthetic and mechanic.
Each world follows a similiar difficulty curve, starting off super easy, and ending around the difficulty of the hardest thing you can think of in super meat boy or celeste.
The ost is also a banger IMO
Overall a fairly simple barebones platformer. No cutscenes, dialogue, story, etc.
You are a bear, you get a double jump, and that's about it. If you are looking for more, you should look elsewhere.

Unexpectedly polished little gem. Cute graphics, pleasant music, satisfying controls. My only complaint is that the difficulty curve felt a bit weird – in every single one of the 5 worlds, the last level was significantly harder than the rest of them. Other than that I can wholeheartedly recommend this game.
Consider getting it on sale though, as $10 seems a bit high given that a clear usually takes between 2 and 5 hours.

One of the best platformers I've played lately, I really enjoyed all the levels, the ost and the difficulty curve.
Highly recommended!

Lantern bearer is a 2D precision platformer that nails a lot of things, but gets a few things wrong too, although i'd say the positives outweigh the negatives.
Firstly, the gameplay is simple, get to the end of each level without dying, 5 worlds with 10 levels each, which progressively get more difficult, each world introduces its own set of gimmicks and environments which work nicely as they all fit, and the gimmicks are never used in any annoying fashion.
The graphics are stunning and has a nice blend between pixel style and VFX, which really makes each element of the game just slot together and is insanely pleasing on the eyes.
The music is really well matched to the worlds, especially the ice world, that shit was groovy yo, i did feel the desert worlds music was a little odd but still it sounded good so i never really cared much, overall the sound design and music is really solid.
Now my main gripe with the game is the difficulty, this game didn't need to be difficult at all, because 90% of my playtime came from the level 10 of each world, they are just that much above all the other levels it feels really aggravating to get stuck for so long, play and then get stuck again after whizzing through 9 much more enjoyable levels, it either needs more levels to build up to that difficulty of the finale or just don't make the final levels as hard.
Also the game had a pretty bad habit of making you climb breakable walls on one side, jump through and carry on climbing on the other, its a cool movement trick but got old cuz it was really overused.
Overall, a very good platformer with a lot going for it, but could've used a tiny bit more content to help it flesh out smoother.

Lantern Bearer is a wonderfully cute, challenging and short precision platformer about a bear escaping a well. The level design is mostly quite well done and the gimmicks per each of the 5 worlds are enjoyable.
