If you want a cheap way to play professional football, this is it. THIS IS NOT MADDEN OR 2K. The graphics are older, the scripted tackles a little cheap, the passing...weird? Fun for a game or two, but thats it.
I bought this for franchise mode.
- Player progression is not good. If you have a good QB, keep him forever, no matter the cost, because drafted QBs never get better in my experience.
- Speaking of cost, the salary cap is impossible to manage. Each year you get a set number to spend, and that number doesn't increase when players' contracts are up. For example, if no player contract is up, then I have $25,000,000 to spend. However, if my $25,000,000 QB salary expires, his entire salary is not added to the pool, only a portion of it. This makes re-signing him and my other players at their same salaries almost impossible. Kills franchise for me.
- Team mods exist, which is nice, but the community isn't here yet to keep them updated and crowd sourced.
I probably won't buy another AXIS until the gameplay is smoother, bugs are fixed, and franchise is playable.

I simulated a franchise season with stock team . No changes to players. Started with $25,000,000 ,after season 18 players needed contracts and only had $14,253,902 money to resign players. Something is wrong with this program. you can't even resign your stock team. Because of this i can't recommend this game if you want to play franchise.

I wasn't expecting much for a sale price. I was surprised to get more than I expected. I see others complain the franchise mode is broken...players retire, but your allotted amount to sign players get worse the following year, making it impossible to resign all good players. But overall I have enjoyed it in Coach Mode, despite the flaws. And there are flaws.
But 3 things really get to me about playing this game: (I play Coach Mode)
1- No running game...at least not for me. Other team runs well, but I get 1-2 yards at best when my I choose a run play.
2-NO FGs on 1st or 2nd or 3rd down. I can't find a way to kick a FG on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd down...like 6 seconds left, 2nd down, on their 18 Yd Line, No FG playcall option...missed easy 3 pts before the half in one game. But the AI can do it easily.
3-Clock Control...After the two minute warning, if the opponent is out of time outs and has the ball, the clock stops instead of keep running after every play. 15-25 seconds should run off the clock on a play where the AI has it and runs the ball, or completes a pass. Instead it takes 4-5 seconds to run the play and then when the play is over, the clock stops until the ball is hiked again. It is like the AI has unlimited timeouts until they either score or turn over the ball. Easy to lose a game that is close with this MAJOR flaw.

If you want a viable football alternative, this is it. Axis is pioneering something and you can see it. It is amazing to see what a skeleton-crew has accomplished over 5 years or so. Amazing. All they need is more funds and this gorgeous foundation will explode. Support Axis, buy this simulation and help this team. You can SEE where it is going and I love it. It has a deep franchise, robust customization (even more if on PC) and you can see the improvement year to year. Axis is doing it right by not over-promising and they listen to the community. They have a great thing going here...I highly recommend this sim.

I had been debating either buying this or shelling out the money for Madden's return to PC. On one hand you've a gorgeous game playing as and against NFL teams featuring current players, and on the other a game that's not nearly as polished but made out of passion by a dev team a fraction of the size. I also just couldn't justify supporting a company such as EA and realized that my $20 to Axis will go much, much further than a minimum of $60 going to EA. Origin is also pretty much garbage. I've only played one exhibition game so far and was fairly impressed with what I purchased. Yes the game has bugs and yes some of the mechanics like catching and tackling can be janky, but you have to remember that this is made by an indie developer. I absolutely hate that Madden has such a strangle hold on American football video games and applaud Axis for creating an alternative product. I decided to pick this game up because they are actually trying to take on Madden and EA. Be aware that this is moddable too. So if you wanted you could add current NFL teams and rosters. I've yet to try out many of the features of this game but I'm excited to check everything out. Keep up the good work Axis and keep on improving! You're the definition of the word "underdog" and hope this game series gets more attention as time goes on.

This game has a lot of potential but there are several things that need fixed. On kick offs my opponent almost always makes it to the 35 yard line. Cannot run inside EVER! Outside runs are difficult but more realistic. Quarterback runs don't count toward rush yards for some reason. The AI does some pretty stupid things such as calling time outs when I'm driving the ball which helps me more than it helps thier team. The AI also will run the ball in an obvious hail marry situation.
I HATE Madden so please continue the fine work on this game. Please focus more on actual game play rather than all the bells and whistles regarding off the field content. Game play ON the field is most important.
All of my comments are meant to be constructive as I enjoy this game. I understand this small team can't compete head to head with Madden, however, even a fair football game beats Madden out due to Madden having so many haters...me being one of them for sure!
One last suggestion...My friends and I like to play in competitive games and we would love a way to all have the exact amount of skill points that we can distribute among the team per our playing styles. This adds another competitive aspect to the game play itself and really makes for some interesting player vs. player games. Also, no one would have an unfair advantage just by picking the best team in the league.
Please keep up the great work! I will definitely keep supporting you as you progress. Thank you!

So I bought this game yesterday so I cant't say I have put in months into this game. But so far I am impressed considering it costs 60 dollars for a madden game that is trying to bleed you dry with micro transactions. For 20 bucks you can't beat it. Plus the developers are VERY QUICK to respond. I had an issue where with the steam controller when you pressed start it wouldn't save changes to the roster so I could add myself to a team. Though that would work to pause the game in gameplay. Reached out to them via email yesterday, they responded that night and the patch is already fixed and installed on my computer. 24 F*%$#$& hours! Goddamn thats quick. All I can say is F*&^ EA support these guys.

Let me make this clear, this game has a lot of potential. However, the way it currently plays, I can't recommend it to anyone else because of the absolutely nonsensical regression system.
- My recievers dropped from A+ catch rating to C, in the middle of the season, despite being on the 2nd best passing offense in the league.
- My defensive backs literally drop in rating right before my eyes despite my team allowing the least passing yards in the league.
And if that wasn't enough, you also have to deal with running backs regularly breaking 3+ tackles from defenders with A+ tackle rating, even on the "Defend Run" defense stance. These combine to make a frustrating experience that I can't currently recommend to anyone else.

Axis football is a football game made by a handful of people who work on the game parttime these guys have other jobs to support their families. Now with that said look at what they have done in a few years. The level of quality and content from 15 to 18 is mind blowing. Here is the deal every year they improve the game using the sales from the previous games. They listen to the community and implement features that we ask for! Never has a developer been so involved with their community. Yes the game is not where it needs to be but it will get there no doubt.
So, what do you get in Axis that you can't get with other football games? Fully customizable teams. You can make anything in Axis football with basic knowledge of photoshop. The dev wanted you to be able to create infinite teams, uniforms, and in the future even play books, Aimed passing is a novel concept ala NFL fever but with more control. You aim the cursor where you want and based on your movement the ball will go there. Of course you still have traditional button passing as well. The new addition this year is franchise mode (mods work with it). The community has already made a classic NFL mod and a full yes full NCAA mod with up to date rosters. Stats for players and teams are kept you can also spectate or coach if you don't feel like taking the controls.
All in all Axis football is going places and you can tell. I will forever support a dev that listens and no dev listens more than this one. Props to Danny and all who brought us this ray of hope by making Axis Football.

I was lucky enough to be able to play the beta for this game and now that the game is out, I bought the game and am more than happy with it. Let me start by saying that the game is developed by a small indie team, but man do they listen to the community! ‘Can you add this or change that?’ Discuss, update, test, done. That’s the attitude that makes a game successful. They had a vision when making the game, but they know gamers have options and the future is looking good for sim football. So here are my thoughts on the game.
The Bad
• Graphics – being upfront, this isn’t Madden. But I am ok with that. I don’t need to see the sweat on the player’s brow. I just want to be able to customize uniforms, players, and be able to see those changes (I’ll get to that in a few).
• Gameplay Mechanics – decent but can definitely be improved. Animations can seem clunky at times. The devs know it and have plans to upgrade these. They simply decided to work on other items first (like an awesome franchise mode – I’ll get to that in a few).
• No licensed teams – we all know why. Madden has a monopoly on the license. But that’s ok. There are mods to fix that and while they are at it, college teams. Enough said.
• No online play – you can play multiplayer locally only.
• Announcers are blah.
The Good
• I can choose to play an exhibition game, spectate a game, or coach a game.
• Franchise – This is why I bought the game. I love building a franchise from scratch. Axis uses a 3 Tier system for franchise where you start at the bottom tier and play your way to the top. If you win your Tier, you can play against the lowest team of the higher tier. A victory means, you boot them down and take their place. Franchise mode allows you to set up depth charts, trade players (no wacky trades for other team top players), draft players, keep track of injured players (players get injured and regress/progress at end of year) and look to fill gaps in your team in the free agency. One thing I like is that I can sim a game, coach a game (just call the plays), or actually play the game. Sometimes all I want to do is make the calls. The game simply gives you a ton of flexibility.
• Mods – The community already has NFL teams and College teams mods.
• Uniform editor – I have only started messing around with this feature, but it is extremely powerful. Gloves, visors, and other accessories can be added/removed. Uniform colors can be modified. Team names can be changed. So many things to edit.
• Player editor – Just like the uniform editor, you can change a ton of options in the player editor. You can change a player’s number, height, weight, individual stats, and any one of over 20 items for each player.
• Team editor – lets you modify a team’s name and relocate the team to any city you want. You can also change their offensive and defensive schemes.
• Statistics – the bread and butter of any franchise. This game has more statistics than my college statistics class. Team stats, league stats, franchise stats (passing/rushing/receiving/defense).
Overall, I knew when I bought this game, I would be buying it for the franchise mode. I love building a team, managing the players, and making my team into a dynasty. The gameplay and graphics are not Madden and will certainly be improved but all in due time. For now, the franchise mode has given me plenty to keep me busy. If you are looking for a Madden killer, look somewhere else. If you are a franchise guru or want to build a dynasty, this game is for you. There is so much depth, so much customization, and so many franchise options, that I know will keep me busy for quite a while.
