I will never forget when I jokingly asked in the discussions "Where where the aliens?" and the devs linked me to this DLC. Simply incredible.

For some years I had researched in the 5th and 6th Dynasties with regards to their actual seafaring capabilities. Ignoring river and canal vessels, my research focussed upon the vessels that navigated to: 1. Phoenicia. Modern day Lebanon, where cedar (Cedrus libani) has always been a preferred choice for ship-building. 5th Dynasty calls them 'Byblos-ships' as per Byblos, the Phoenician port, but applied to all sea-going vessels eventually. 2. Punt. Modern historians attribute this mythical land to somewhere approximate to a North Yemeni/Saudi Arabian/Ethiopian triangle. Ebony and rare minerals being imported from there by actual sea-going vessels to southern Egypt, thereafter the ships were de-constructed and brought home overland to the Nile. I was intrigued by the artwork in the official Artbook in that it shows keeled 'byblos-ships' of an age much later than the chronologically distant 6th Dynasty. In those distant times ships were flat bottomed, had bipole masts, and up to eight inefficient rudders, one man per rudder. The hull was stitched together with coir or date-palm rope --long before wooden mortice joints revolutionised ship building. The dates (lolz) appear to disagree with this element, but I've spent scant time (offline) this week with this title, so I could be misreading. And that's the only head-scratcher of this 'gold' package. The presentation of the game is beautiful, with a clear Civ 5 vibe. The music is splendidly evocative but sadly no input by the still-gorgeous Ms Susanna Hoffs. A warm and lively palette brings a sunny uplift to proceedings. The game-play casual but more in-depth than at first presumed with the onus upon learning about these millenia-stretching Dynastic peoples. I'll update more about the ship representations as they come. It's of great interest to me, to see if there are more puzzles on that front. Please contain your excitement.
