this has the potential to be a great game. if the devs would just take the time to finish what they start. but at this time i cant recommend anyone buying it. hell i bought 5 copies. for me and 4 friends. at this point in development not woth the .99 cents they are asking for each copy. SORRY EVERYONE BUT PASS.

I bought this game when it was on sale, It was interesting to play and it does remind me of the old resident evil games with the fixed point of view. I know its in early access, I'm hoping for more to be added. The controls are very sensitive and it makes it a little hard to play. Its best to use the keyboard and mouse instead of the controller. I got further with the PC controls than I did with the console controls. I like the old style of the game, so I'm not complaining.

2.5/10 From time to time, I like to take a chance on a super-cheap indie title that I find on Steam. I generally like top-down shooters and spooky games, so Zombies in the Dark fit the bill. Although I saw a few negative reviews, these were from when the game was in early access. I had hoped that the most prominent issues were fixed by the time the 1.0 release rolled around. Unfortunately, I was incorrect. There are a lot of issues here that make Zombies in the Dark unpleasant to play:

The gun that you are holding changes from floor to floor without you being notified. The game doesn't go into where you found these extra firearms, and it makes the first encounter on each floor a little jarring. Perhaps a "safe room" could be added on each floor of the mansion, holding the new weapon? In addition, the sound effect for your pistol outside of the mansion sounds like you're shooting a gun with no bullets in it.
The enemies have no real attack animations - they just shamble into you and you start taking damage until you either back away or put them down.
The game's biggest issue is actually just navigating the monotonous levels. Each floor is large, dark, full of branching paths and extra rooms, and you can't progress until you've killed every enemy. Therefore, most of the "challenge" in the game is not in killing zombies, but in tromping back through the map until you find the 1-2 zombies you missed during your initial passes. A map of each floor would be more than welcome, even if the player had to locate it somewhere in the level before it was available. Through looking at the controls, I saw that I could drop flares. I thought I might simply drop flares in each area that I'd already explored to make it easier to find the last few zombies, but you can only drop a certain number of flares per level and it seems like they might burn out relatively quickly. Oh well - at least I was only out a dollar.
