Quite decent for learning/practising Hiragana & Katakana. However, It would have been nice if we had the ability to draw the symbols ourselves.

Great concept, as most people buy this game to use the achievements
in the hope to create a clean steam profile.
Sadly it is still impossible to use them yet.
Hope this gets fixed soon

Learning Hiragana and Katakana can be difficult. The way I learned them was by means of a Rorschach test. By looking at the characters, like a inkblot, what do you see? You can definitely use this to help you study and remember Hiragana, Katakana, and possibly Kanji. I myself am working on Kanji.
That being said, there are a lot of software to assist with learning Japanese. JQ: Beautiful Japan isn't a complex learning aid. I did find having multiple choice at the bottom of the screen helps. The game does not shuffle or mix in both Hiragana and Katakana together for challenge. That would be a great added feature. Least for me, I retained what I learned by repetition, the same characters, order of sequence, and location of the correct answer at the bottom of the screen. For some weird reason, this style of teaching works! I found it a good learning tool, even though its is very basic and short with no features to speak of.
If you have never seen Hiragana or Katakana, and you play this, you may be at a loss for a while until you start to become familiar with the material. I only paid $.50 for this game. Don't have high expectations as in game play. If you work with it, you might be surprised you actually learned something new.

Just save your money and look for a free flashcard website if you're actually trying to learn.

there are websites and even better games on steam that can help you learn Japanese than this game.
questions are in the same order everytime, so if you lose a life, it just repeats everything, and it gets repetitive. you can also cheat way to easily on this to get the achievements that aren't even going to be displayed.
Edit: I find it funny how the day after I put up this review, my achievements are displayed.

Trivia game testing your knowledge of hiragana and katakana characters. This game is not a learning game, though you may get some knowledge out of it if if you are looking the answers up.
Like the other games of the JQ series, super quick to finish if you have basic knowledge of the subject matter - in this case, Japanese.
Like other games of the JQ series, the order the questions appear is fixed, so eventually you are bound to get the answer right. In this specific game, since there is no time limit, you can also peek online at a Japanese dictionary too.
The design of the game itself is a little more polished than other JQ games I played.
Given the game's name you one would have expected questions based on Japanese scenary rather than boring elementary school grade grammar. At least the music track fits with the theme.
One thing the game would have going for it is its Achievement icons, which are Japanese characters that can be hard to come by. Unfortunately, the game is profile limited, meaning the achievements cannot be showcased in profiles yet...
Overall, could be a ok quick trivia game to pass time and test your knowledge of katakana and hiragana. Since it is so short, at the full price I would rate 5/10

I have absolutely no idea why I bought this game. The achievements look cool and it might actually help learning the alphabet of both Hiragana and Katakana, but in full honesty, cheats were needed for me as I speak 0 Japanese.
Cool chievos and nice minigame for Japanese learning peeps.

First of all: The lerning software isn't awful, but I won't recommend spending money on it. The reason being that there are tons of free alternatives you can access in your browser right now that offer a nearly identical, in most cases even better experience. I wouldn't mind spending a few centimes for an offline oppertunity to practice my japanese skills, but this game has some major drawbacks. The biggest flaw in my opinion is that it is not randomized at all, you will know which letter comes first, which comes second and so on. In a similar fashion the answeres will also always be the same wich is made worse by the fact that the only option to input is via choosing one of for quiz boxes, so no keyboard. All of these issues contribute in the game being to easy and uneffective for Kana practice. I don't regret purchasin this software on sale but again, there are many free options. Maybe the developer will implement a randomizer and I would like to see a "hard mode", where you have to manually input the transcrptions of the letters. Then i would even recommend this programm because the visual atmospehere is really fitting for the japanese theme. :fish:
