i think everyone could learn a lot from the simplicity of Gato Roboto. simple, well designed and fun. a sweet bite-sized metroidvania with a cute cat, what else could you ask?

a very basic and linear metroidvania, it's really nothing special and was a bit of a letdown as i'd heard great things about it. this isn't to say its bad though. despite being called a metroidvania, i don't think that really applies that much. there aren't many instances of returning to previous areas with new powers or anything and the game is extremely linear relative to other games in the genre. the art is pretty good for how limited it is and im very glad you have an option to tone down the colours out the gate as the pure black and white can begin to be hard to look at after a while. music is pretty forgettable and i didn't really care about it, but it did its job and was inoffensive. some of the mechanics are fun to play with, mainly rocket jumping and how getting out of your mech suit works making for some pretty satisfying snappy gameplay. overall the game is just... fine. what it does is pretty simple but fun enough for what it is. nothing amazing and has some annoying bits here and there, like some of the enemies towards the end of the game, but nothing to majorly impact the game overall. 6/10

A fun, shorter metroidvania that pays homage to an older era of gaming. There was definitely a lot of love that went in to this and a lot of respect to it's ancestors and inspirations, especially Metroid II. The soundtrack is great, the story is fun, the gameplay is tight and enjoyable. The collectible cartridges let you change the color palette of the game and are all really cool and fun to swap around. It goes on sale frequently, but even at full price I think it's worth the amazing game they created

My girlfriend broke up with me while i played the game through the first time, 10/10. Didn't care because the game was so good. In all seriousness this is a great game, just finished it the first time, adorable characters and only took me about 4 hours with short breaks in between to get 78%. I will be 100% this at some point.

Gato Roboto is a short but very fun Metroidvania that was just an all around good time. It had a fun story that was interesting to learn about and felt satisfying along with the absurd concept of a cat piloting a mech suit in the first place. The art is extremely minimalist but looks good anyway and even has pallet swaps that you find as you play. I really had fun with this game and am looking forward to more from Doinksoft for sure. Also I completely forgot that the frog in a mech existed while playing and ended up not upgrading my weapons for the entire game so that was fun.

A very short (takes around 3-4 hours) and cute metroidlike game where you play as a cat controlling a mecha, very reminiscent of Metroid 1 in terms of simplicity but in a good way. The power ups scattered around the decently sized map make you feel like you earned them and feel great and well thought out. If you are a speedrunner (try to beat my time its 37:58 minutes :D) you will find yourself navigating the map to be satisfying. A must play for metroidlike fans, great stuff.

Uninteresting waste of time; play literally any other Metroidvania instead.

Really fun Metroidvania with a perfect balance of core game play and side content. Getting all the achievements felt really fun (despite me failing the speedrun like 4 times), and the movement was truly incredible once you get the hang of it. The rockets, which are the first things you unlock act as your main damaging weapon but for an experienced player they become one of the best mobility tools ever. It's like being able to Pogo in hollow knight everywhere, or wall climbing any wall you want. Combined with all the other movement it's just so much fun to play this game and optimise your playthroughs First playthrough will likely take you about 5 and a half hours, but after that once you know where to go and you're doing the achievements / challenges they'll take you about 2 hours give or take 30 minutes. There's a whole section of the game where you have to master the mechanics of your ejected form, which is a really unique way of tackling that and I was very happily surprised to see how the bosses of that area didn't disappoint in comparison with the other areas. Greatly well done. TL;DR it's a game where you're a cat in a robot suit who shoots frogs and mice. Seriously fun, and as my 2nd ever Metroidvania I was delighted to how much this game didn't disappoint. It goes on sale often, so if you're reading this; get it!
