This game perfectly captures the feeling of Ultima Underworld, but with a modern interface and intuitive UI. The ambient sounds are excellent, creating a familiar and immersive experience that's easy to get into. I'm really excited to see how it develops, though now I'm torn between playing it piecemeal as updates come out, or waiting for the full release! It's a good dilemma to have. This is the most hyped I've been for a new dungeon crawler in years.

VERY early access. Wait for release. Graphical issues, combat doesn't feel good, things are not explained well or at all, attributes/skills are confusing, inventory is painful, controller support is not fully implemented....etc....etc.... You go around and press left click or F and you will press F probably as much as you left click. Just wait on this one until release.

Wizardry and Morrowind had a baby and this is it. Super fun a good dungeon crawl so far, admittedly in the 10 hours I played was getting my teeth kicked in by dungeon denizens. I really enjoy the whole aesthetic and vibe and the combat is, I cannot stress enough, actually a challenge.

Impressive for a single indie guy to produce. It reminds me of old school crawlers like Daggerfall. Good job. Here is hoping there are a LOT of new areas in the release, and maybe some DLC later on. Good Luck, nice work.

DISCLAIMERS: - Demo Level is NOT in the Main Game. It is simply an introduction to many of the basic mechanics. - Game is about 70-80% finished (in my opinion) as of writing this review. - Game Length is currently about ~9 hours, ~12+ hours for full 100% completion. In a nutshell: modern Arx Fatalis. If you haven't already, I would recommend playing Arx Fatalis + Arx Libertatis (Open-Source port) first, as most people will probably not have the patience or really understand this game without understanding the source material. If you enjoyed Arx Fatalis, you will definitely enjoy this game. As Arx exists in such a niche RPG genre, it really is hard to compare to other games, but the best way to describe it is: Old-School first-person RPG with puzzles, secrets, and object physics, with little to no in-game handholding. There are a few basic tutorials, but aside from that, you either figure it out yourself or look up a guide. If you didn't enjoy this game or Arx, but are looking for something in the similar Old-School RPG genre, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, is a shorter, more watered-down, linear version of this type of system. The game itself has maybe a few bugs (explosions can go through walls and you can get stuck on NPCs), but other than that, it's a really solid game.

It's fun. A modern Arx Fatalis-like. A sim game where you don't do anything well to start with. It has a dark souls/bioshock corpse run system for reasons entirely unclear to me. When you die you'll respawn at the last shrine you rested at if the shrine is in the same area. If there is no shrine or you haven't found one then you just have to load a save... It makes no sense and would be better served without that system. Leveling up should just be able to be done on the fly. Tooltips with explanations of the effects of stats and skills would be welcome. It doesn't have to give exact math, but it does need more information to guide character building. Still fun to explore.

A mix of Dark Messiah's combat and Arx's world building and interactivity. Maps can feel a little convoluted at times and a bit empty, but overall a good time.

Has a lot of potential, I can see the vision. Can't wait to play more. The map design challenges you, the simulationist approach to things gives you opportunities on emergent gameplay. The atmosphere of the maps are great, just make sure you only use torches when you actually need them. The stats are a bit nebulous sometimes though, requiring trial and error with builds. Search skill seems pretty underutilized, I wish it would also be used for "perception checks" for hidden switches, fake walls, destructible walls, buried chests etc. Combat feels pretty punchy with solid animations and SFX, but I wish there was a real purpose to the directional attacks. A couple ideas to add to combat, the first being easier to implement, the other is an unlikely wish: Add a knock down effect to the player character if they are kicked while out of stamina. Makes running out of stamina more of a detriment to a players defense rather than just their offense (from weaker outgoing attacks). Locational damage with armor factoring into damage received and deflect chance. This would work well with the directional attacks already in the game. Say the enemy had a helmet, overhead strikes on their head would be greatly nullified. If they had a shield in their left hand, and you swung from the right, you'd circumvent their shield, dealing more damage. Stuff like this would go a long way into improving the melee combat while still retaining the more calculating and thoughtful gameplay I believe the developer is going for. Keep an eye on this one for sure.
