This version improved both in control of the "Anakim" (the mecha), as in the difficulty, allowing different types of players to enjoy it.
In addition there were certain visual improvements, especially in the UI and the access of the additional content to the game (invaders of ekron).

Defenders of Ekron is a weird shmup/twin-stick-shooter/puzzle hybrid that constantly switches genre between missions, and not to its benefit. To some extent, the devs deserve credit for putting in a ton of varied stages and having them all work fairly well, but none of them really excelled and several of them were quite frustrating, leaving Defenders of Ekron kind of a muddled experience where you couldn't be sure until the stage starts what sort of gameplay mechanics you were even in for. Heck, for how many puzzles there are in the game and the tutorials, I'm surprised that bit of its genre isn't marked anywhere on the store page.
Not recommended, but not very badly - it's an indie mecha game, which is always nice, and the overall design isn't awful, it's just a muddle that's hard to end up recommending to anyone.
