Buy it. Learn it. Love it
If Fw190 is a good wife, Spitfire is a wild lover ;)
Pros:
- It is fast
- 2 great engines to choose from
- It has decent firepower
- It is unstable (You can perform whatever turn you like...)
Cons:
- It is unstable (...including blackout-sado-maso-ground squishing one ;))
- It carries too little 20mm rounds
- Most dangerous enemy = your own flaps
- Narrow Undercarriage
- You need to take good care of the engine. It is so careless and wild :)))
A BIG YES! The best bird to me. Not for beginners unless you are a hardcore beginner with BALLS

It is a classic and competent for its time frame.
Can turn in a dime and packs a couple of 20mm cannons on the wings for slipping BF 109s and FW 190s after an attack.

It's a Spitfire Mk.V, what other reason do you need?
Okay, joking aside, the plane is a pure joy to fly and fight in. That said, 20 bucks is a lot of money, so fiscally it's far more sensible to pick it up during a sale when you can get it for 5.

Plenty has been written about this plane, and how it is a little outdated by the time of the Bodenplatte era, but I'm still having a lot of fun flying it. Yes, it's true you aren't the best in a straight run (escaping or chasing) but you can still more than hold your own if you dive in for the attack, then regain your height for another run. A great plane and beautifully modelled too, as we've come to expect from this series.
If you feel you don't want to take a chance at full price, then there will be a sale along soon and I highly recommend you get this lovely little ship.

What's to say? It's a Spitfire, it's maneuverable, it's not as fast as the G-4s you'll meet but if they ever try to turnfight you, you'll have the upper hand. Just don't waste too much ammo, without any ammo indicators you'll quickly find your trigger going 'click', particularly with the cannons.
She looks and sounds so beautiful though :Q

+Looks and sounds great.
+Lovely to fly & with a very tight turning circle.
+Comes with some nice skins
-very limited ammunition
-no additional loadouts besides the 20mm Hispanos and .303mgs which limits its versatility.
Overall pretty nice, even nicer on a deep discount.

Arguably the best dogfighter in WW2. Forgiving to fly, highly manoeverable and well armed. The cockpit also allows near 360 visibility. If I flew for the Luftwaffe, I'd be bricking myself against one of these bad boys. Not to mention the intimidating growl from that Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. 11/10 would fly.

This is an earlier spitfire than the ones that you'll fly in Bodenplatte and Normandy. It's got the 2 Hispanos with the 60 round drum magazines for a total of 120 cannon rounds. It does not have a .303 to ShKas conversion, which was popular on other lend/lease aircraft for better performing and more readily serviceable MG's but I'm not sure ever happened for this one. Does not have gunpods, rockets or drop tanks as options.
Both Merlin engines are considerably weaker than the later war counterparts and are better suited to lower altitude fighting which was preferred by the russians anyway.
Does not have holosight or anything fancy.
But it's still a spitfire, and it's an amazing plane in a furball. It can't run down the German fighters you're facing if they're at top condition but if they're engaged it'll chew them up with its only real weakness being ammunition. You can expect a max of 3-4 kills per mission with even conservative gunnery. If you play on dense front settings, this might be inadequate for completing the mission types you're sent on.

Well, it's Spitfire, that'd summarize it good.
For me, it was a bit difficult to start with it, compared to Yak 1 or Fw190 A3/A5. While flying this thing you must constantly watch (and adjust) oil and water temperature as it can exceed admissible values quite fast, also RPMs are controlled manually, so you have two handles to operate - one for the RPM and second for throttle which raises or lowers manifold pressure. But when you get comfortable with it (and it's easier doing than writing about it) you can conquer the skies... well, if you want to outturn every other fighter plane, because chasing is not only painful but also impossible.
Now, onto the armament - .303 machineguns and 20mm Hispano cannons with 60 shells each. Worth mentioning that all of this is placed in wings, so if you're more comfortable with shooting things from nose (Yak/109)... you're gonna have a bad time. Small ammo reserves are compensated with brilliant Reflector Sight Mk II which can adjust not only the convergence distance on the run but also the wingspan of enemy aircraft (you can google how to operate it) which summarized makes shooting extremely accurate.
As for the icing on the cake you can pick both Merlin engines (45 and 46) which makes Spitfire both low and high altitude capable.
All in all - big yes, you can fall in love with this aircraft.
