I happened to see this after my own break up and the description caught my attention. Playing through it, I liked the story and characters, felt that there was good character writing and the main conflicts kept me interested, and the recent update added even more to that.

At first i was really enraged with the "dumb story". I couldn´t understand the behavior of Maia, Cass and Ava at all. It just made no sense to me. After the big secret was revealed and all was cleared up it made sense in a way to enjoy the story (which was far from over by this time), but it´s not a "great story" at all. I would rather say it´s okay. But the writing is good nontheless as is the art and the music, so all in all it´s a thumbs up.

Enjoying my time with it. Haven't completed it yet, but wanted to post a positive review. I'm not enjoying it as much as Sable's Grimoire or Tomboys need love too, but It's still a great VN with lovable characters.

The game has two routes and is short. MC's girlfriend vanishes without a word for 3 years then shows up and MC has to choose between her and childhood friend. "Slice of life" with a little drama thrown into the mix.

The Heart Grows Fonder is a very interesting story to say the least, one full of serious heavy family matter that can happen in real life, after all we don't get to pick or choice our families, but it does have a few laugh along the way ((( pick best choice: Make up something ridiculous EVERY TIME!))). Over All not to bad a story and choices and plots, definitely not a bad story to read only complain I might have is Repeat it's dial log a bit to much to Confirm himself the main character, 8/10

In this game, we follow Cas, a young man suddenly reunited with his ex-girlfriend Maia, who left him without a word three years ago. Thanks to his best friend Ava, the two meet again—and what's more, Maia has some important business in town, so she will be staying at Cas' place for a while. And neither girl will tell him what is going on...
I liked...

The characters (except for Cas' sleazy colleague, who's really one dimensional, and not in a good dimension)
The plot (it's simple, but doesn't overstay its welcome)
The setting (it deals with entering the adult life; not the stereotypical highschool setting)
The look and feel (nice artwork and music)

I didn't care for...

The H-scenes (I don't think they contribute much to the story, esp. with Maia)

Verdict
Compared to Sickness, an earlier Zetsubou title which I both loved and hated at different points, My Heart Grows Fonder is a less ambitious, but far more well-rounded experience. It's not groundbreaking, but I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it if you're looking for a romance with slightly older characters. This game took me by surprise, I was expecting a few more choices which is its only real downfall, but minus that the game has a great story and nice length to it. I recommend playing multiple times to get all the endings available.

That was nice. In My Heart Grows Fonder, you are reading from the perspective of an accountant named Cassius. In an unexpected way, he is reunited with his girlfriend Maia who left without a word for 3 years. No messages. No emails. Nothing. Why did she leave for 3 years. Will Cassius and Maia be able to rekindle their relationship, or will Cassius end up moving on? Let's find out.
Positives
- Aside from William, the cast of characters are well for their intended purpose. William didn't really do much and I didn't feel like I was given enough time to like him. - Even though the lines for the CGs can be blurry at times, the art is great. - The story is enjoyable from start to end. - Cassius is a good protagonist whose actions were 100% justified given the situations he was put in throughout this VN. - The BGM is fine, but I won't remember any of the songs.
Negatives
When it comes to the problems I have with this VN, it mostly comes from some of the characters and their actions. The first one on the chopping block is Cassius’s girlfriend Maia. While I completely understand why she kept her reason a secret from him, that doesn’t mean I completely agree with her. She couldn’t have told Cassius anything about her situation? She had to keep him in the dark for 3 whole years? Also, I’m not a fan of her
believing that everyone can be saved and make amends.
The climax for her route is good, but
after everything he did to her, she decided to help her dad? I don’t know if that is dumb or kind.
As for Ava, I didn’t like that she
revealed her feelings for Cassius RIGHT AFTER he reunites with his girlfriend. That is the definition of bad timing.
Lastly, I felt there was a missed opportunity to have a scene where
Maia finds out about Cas and Ava becoming a couple if you choose to go for Ava.
Considering that Maia believes that she and Cas are still a couple, I thought it was certain that there would be a scene like that. However, we don’t get anything close to it.
Ava and Cas just become a couple while hiding it from Maia. Like what Cas says at one point, I feel really bad for Maia.

Final Thoughts
Overall, My Heart Grows Fonder does its job well. It tells its story nicely while having nice visuals and a couple of choices. There were a few moments where the VN surprised me, and a moment or two where I almost cried. It’s a nice, short VN about a couple being reunited after a three-year separation.

A nice visual novel. Your best friend Ava has asked you to let a friend of hers crash on your couch for a couple weeks. She fails to mention that this friend is female until you are waiting at the train station. Even worse, she totally fails to mention that this friend is your former girlfriend, who disappeared three years ago. Three paths are available to you. One for each girl, and a bad ending. Your choices will determine who you end up with, or not. Note: there are some darker themes at work here. Well worth the price. And the DLC adds a few explicit scenes.

Well, the premise of this game is interesting, but the reason of ex-girlfriend was too focused on external factor. I expected quite a drama about a couple making up after "break-up", but there couldn't be such drama since his ex had a clearly legitimate reason. In other words, if the reason was like "Sorry, but I really have to chase dream for now", it would be more interesting to see how his ex is going to make up for her fault of choosing her dream over her boyfriend. However, if the reason was a death threat like "leave this town without telling anyone, especially your boyfriend"(This isn't a in-game reason - it is just an example), there is much less conflict between the couple after the truth is revealed. The reason of ex-girlfriend leaving in this game falls in the latter category, and thus I didn't enjoy this game up to initial expectation.
