About the game
Hyper Simon X combines the mechanics of traditional spaceship shooters with "simon" memory games, making you memorize which enemy ship you must shoot with the special shot in order to progress to the next level while you dodge enemies shots, debris and shoot them back with the regular shoot. The game itself aims to be a pastime when you want to waste some minutes, wait a large download complete or wait your girlfriend get ready to go out for dinner. Also, a bunch of A C H I E V E M E N T S! Before you start the game a coloured ship appears and using the X or L key you need to hit that ship to complete the level. Each level adds another coloured ship required as well as gradually increasing the oncoming ships. Being able to have customisable settings would make the game slightly easier, but overall it's a wonderful game, especially if you want to practice your memory.

Its really not a bad game. I think with some work on the pixel art and gameplay it can actually become quite fun.

Confusing implementation of Simon says and shoot-em-ups. The "instructions" on how to play are very poor and don't explain things well at all.

Who remembers Simon the color sequence remind game? This little 2D space shooter game combines survival shoot'em up + the previous mentioned Simon game. To progress in levels at the beginning the color sequence of ships which you have to shoot in the same order with the special shots. Ofc in higher levels there are swarming more enemies and they also shoot prejectiles after you. But the most nerve-wracking are the wrecks which still remain after each ship destruction. You only have 3 lives. So to reach level 8 is quite challenging.

This game is a mix of space shooter and memory game. You need to memorize the correct sequence of ships based on it's color. Destroy them and earn many points as possible. You can also earn points by playing as a normal space shooter but you will get less points than destroying the enemies following the correct sequence. Controls feel very solid, pixelart is nice. The sound track is very good.
Shoot 'em up combined with a Simon memory game.
Shoot 'em up: Shoot enemies... Simon: ... in a specific order. See e.g. Simon game in Wikipedia. In Hyper Simon X, enemy space ships colored with primary colors (plus yellow) attack you, while you have to manage a special shot to the right ones in the right order. Idea is neat and it's not necessarily a bad game: indeed, with a better design it could be a good one. But some aspects make it a not recommended for me.
Some issues: Bad introduction
I was confused at first (initially not knowing the name Simon for such memory games). The game is better if you educate yourself first on this type of memory game. First you are instructed to use the special weapon on specific enemies and the regular one (the shooty shoot gun) on the others. There is sadly just one enemy type. However, the specific enemy order isn't clear at first, since the single enemy flashes on the screen quickly and it's easy to disregard if you don't know to expect it. Only after first round do you see two enemies and begin to see that there might be a pattern to follow. It could have been better to start the first level with two color targets instead of just one.
Some issues: Bad RNG
The order to shoot enemies stays same until you lose but is different for each game. However, all the time I got series like "red-blue-blue-blue-blue-blue", i.e. with the same color repeating multiple times. RNG feels faulty.
Some issues: Flashy background
Just see the trailer: those moving stars easily blend into each other and hide enemy projectiles. Even the wrecked enemy (one left after shooting them) can blend in with the background if you're not careful. I "inexplicably" died several times because of... Well, I didn't see why but probably a projectile like that.
Technicalities
On keyboard you can use either WASD or arrows, plus some (slightly awkward) letter keys for shooting. Gamepad also works alright. Sadly, the keys cannot be remapped.
Mixed recommendation
Most achievements can be gotten in a couple of minutes in almost spammy fashion. However, to get 100% you have to reach the level 8, with eight colors to remember, with only 3 lives. For me this took about one hour. Game is perhaps okay, it's just that I lean towards negative. There are a few issues (perhaps by bad design), and not a lot of variety due to just one enemy type. Then again it costs less than €1: it wasn't a huge waste. So if the idea intrigues you, it might still be worth its low price-tag. ~Twistorian Curator~
