First island is fun, characters seem alive, exploration is fun. Unfortunately, the charm gets lost fast. * After the first island, travel times and inventory management become tedious. * Charming characters don't play any role whatsoever anymore after one or two interactions. This is particularly sad, because the existing short sequences deliver a lot. * Progression comes through armor, weapons and tools that use a stone, paper, scissors scheme (with elements). Most of the game time seems to come from moving back and forth, because you need resources scattered over several islands, or the equipment you would need for an enemy or area is at home, to save inventory space. There is a lot of content at the surface, but in the end it's just several tiers of equipment with elemental variations and the different resources needed for those. All crafting games have this to some degree of course, but it was a lot of tediousness and little fun for myself here. * Bombardements will destroy (some of) your base, unless you consult walkthroughs before coming to that point. There ARE warnings about this in the game, I just did not understand what they actually meant, because destroying base buildings seemed far out of the scope of the game up to that point. No other enemies even damage or attack your buildings. Stealing your players' time by destroying their work without proper forewarning a complete no-no for me, and I'm not even one of those people who spend time to make it nice and pretty. Can't imagine how pissed I would have been, if I was. * Combat is unbelievably clunky, boring, bad. I literally put the difficulty to "casual", stood in front of the "Old Ones" and went to read something while my familiar killed them, because beating them "the real way" took such a long time and was so boring, I'd rather have sit on a cactus. They shoot four or five times before becoming vulnerable to a single strike for a short time, so the "fight" is dodging for maybe 8 seconds, hit, dodge for 8 seconds, hit, ... repeat that for 8 times per Old One, times ten Old Ones... Is there a "Waste Your Time" Award for games?

Holy crap. Loved it on Armor games, but now? HOLY SHIT! There's so much more to the story now! I've played for hours before, it's THAT good! It's got so much, and MULTIPLAYER now?! I can only IMAGINE what that's like! I have a lack of friends that want to play games together. :'-)

I so so so very much love the story of Aground (with all its slow-burn unraveling!), and honestly vibe hardcore with everything about this game in general. One of the most admirable works of human creation I have experienced in my life. Huge huge huge kudos to everyone who helped craft this game. :)
