Hex Two is definitely a diamond in the rough. Among the sea of low-priced games by many unknown developers, Hex Two offers compelling gameplay in a beautiful minimalist environment. The game has a very simplistic tutorial system (by introducing a new mechanic every couple of levels or so), but does it in a way that isn't intrusive, unlike many other tutorials. The music and sound design are both extraordinary and fit the mood of the game perfectly. The puzzles get progressively harder each level at a very linear rate, versus leaving you scratching your head after level 5, which is greatly appreciated as a player. Hex Two is a wonderful game to play, and with 80 levels, I will definitely be playing this for a long time!

Hex 2 is the follow-up to the pretty good Hex, a navigation puzzle game. You'll need to find your way around a hexagonal board, touching each tile to make it disappear - you complete the level when all tiles are deleted. As you solve the levels, more and more types of hexagons will turn up to make your life harder (or, in rare cases, easier) - you know the drill, this is how a good puzzle game should go.
Also, the game is how a good 2nd installment should go. Studio Goya was taking a look at all aspects of the original Hex, and tried to make improvements wherever feasible - while the visuals are pretty much the same, the music is much better suited to the contemplative nature of puzzle solving, there are much welcome gameplay improvements, and most importantly, the puzzles are harder, with more types of hexagons. Some of them are quite crazy, like the boats - and even those come in two variants :)
While the puzzles in the original Hex were good-great but not brilliant, the 2nd game regularly reaches into this higher category, there were several puzzles which gave me the "wow, that was clever" feeling. However, there we come back to the one weakness of the first game which wasn't fixed here either - the lack of undo. Which is OK for the small levels with 10-15 moves, but when the solution has 30-40 moves with some devious traps along the way, having to restart every time you make a misstep is a huge burden on time, and some (maybe many) players, like me, don't have the kind of persistence to see those through. With this, I lost around 5 levels in the game - less than 10%, so nothing terrible, but as those are supposed to be the most challenging puzzles, it does chafe a bit.
Overall, Hex 2 is a great game with a very reasonable price tag, so I wholeheartedly recommend it. As the creators' next and currently last game was the even more excellent Achromatic, I'm very much looking forward to seeing more of their work.
