It's worth the asking price - it's a small $10 for a 2-hour game that isn't like anything else...if a bit all over the place.

Well, "New Ice York" is - on a sober perspective - a 2D-top down detective adventure game with overmap location switching, puzzle solving and some coarse 2D platforming and punch-out-like fist-fight gameplay. The story is hilariously crude and lends towards the cryptic detective-media that is often referred as "cult classic", but I personally found it less endearing than the other entries of "magicdweedoo". Still, it is so punkish, MS-paintish and so far out there that I can still recommend it for people who dig outlandish experiences and I can deeply root from the passion from which it derived from.
It takes under 2 hours to beat with minor replayability on some aspects that you may have missed. And I can wholeheartedly say that we need more folks like this developer!

Love this games ever changing dialogue depending on what you just did, it changes constantly. Every character always had interesting and funny things to say, so I found myself just wondering around talking to everyone most of the time. Game play has some fun mechanics later on, the bug minigame was neat, the platforming sections were fun, and the
Hell
section was a cool change of pace. If anything you should just play this game for the ending, it was unexpected and doesn't pull any punches with the cruelty which, while brutal, is something I haven't seen done in many games I go for. I'll just say it, there aint a happy ending, and I like that. If you can get past the visual design and color choice, I think this game is worth a shot. DEFINITELY get it on sale though.

I originally saw this game on the "Upcoming" tab, and thought to myself, "Gee, this game looks like absolute trash.". So, feeling oddly enticed, I clicked on it. The first trailer started playing, and holy god. I realized what this game was trying to be. The somewhat cringe-comedic trailers sold me on this game. I decided then and there that I was going to give this thing a go, "No questions asked".
I've only played for a few minutes as of now, and I'm really digging the soundtracks, reminds me of oldschool runescape.
Nothing else to say at this point. I say buy it if you want to see some weird shit.
Also, them fellers at the Ristorante seem very suspicious, especially the chef. Guy screams guilty. Whats with them garbage bags blocking that hallway? Hiding something? You just earned the top spot on my list of suspects.
10/10. Would start up and play for a few minutes again.

This game is like art; you need to understand it if you want to appreciate it.
The game has an entertaining story that resembles detective movies. The randomness is never left aside, which gives an interesting and funny turn to what the plot is about. One thing that is very notorious in this game is the predominance of the colour blue, which gives an artistic touch if you ask me. One more thing to add is the OST, which is one of the best features in my opinion. Some tunes are chill while others are straight up RAD.
So yes, as an RPG all I can say is that it's hella good and it's worth giving a try.
10/10 would be on a bus again

This game was part of the itch.io charity bundle which is already great. I purchased this because it's such a bizarre and wonderful experience. It's an adventure game with a few minigames. It's sometimes incredibly, aggressively unpleasant to look at (this is purposeful) and it's mostly just a wild ride. Give it a go, it's unique and interesting.

This game is so much more than I expected it to be. At first, playing it- I was charmed by how weird it was but after playing through it, I found myself feeling connected to this universe and the characters within it. It's intuitive- familiar, but totally different. Refreshingly fun, and an overall great release by magicdweedo, an artist I've really enjoyed since Mealmate(tm). Make sure to check out the soundtrack, too- it's really catchy!

It's hard to think of where to start so i'll just go with a list.
-Writing is great, it's got tons of charm and great humor, and thanks to the soundtrack the mood can get a bit more interesting when it needs to.
-The soundtrack is fantastic, it's what gives the game so much atmosphere. Sounds good in-game and great on it's own.
-The art style reminds me a bit of Jack Stauber, it's got a similar vibe to it. Messy but in a good way, it's got a nice amount of appeal to it imo, it's style kinda fits the tone of the game too. Also helps with the humor since some of the posters got a genuine laugh out of me.
-Soundtrack sounds a lot cleaner outside the game, it's not really an issue but i felt it was worth mentioning. You can check out the higher quality versions for free on the OST's Bandcamp upload.

-The table tennis minigame results in no reward, which is odd since it makes it kind of pointless.
-Near the end
when the cheif of police says you can fight him if you want, it seems like an optional thing like the table tennis. But you actually have to fight him to figure out the password for something later on, despite it having no real conection to him. It felt really contrived.
-It ends
kind of abruptly on a cliffhangar, just as things start to get really interesting, i assume a sequel will happen but it still felt kind of unsatisfying.
Overall i loved it, might wanna pick it up on a sale though, 3.5 hours for $10 feels like a bit much imo. Maybe more like $6 or $7.

Okay, I can't suffer any more of this. I'm throwing in the towel.
I'm sort of confused because Ticket was just so fresh and exciting, and New Ice York is just... A series of uninteresting fetch-quests. The artwork is all samey (and dare I say haphazard). The music is good at first, but very quickly becomes all too repetitive and almost grating. The story is utterly cliche.
I think Magicweedoo needs to spend less time with the trailers, and more time with fleshing out an interesting game with interesting mechanics. They did it with Ticket, so I'm not sure what the problem was here. The dialogue is funny and a bit clever at times, but in general with this title I'd say it's mostly just all over the place. And not in a good way. I was always hoping to turn a corner and find something compelling and really interesting, but the more I played, the more my eyes glazed over and my mind started wandering. If I'm missing some major shift in gameplay - by all means let me know and I'll revisit - but I think this is a case of what-you-see-is-what-you-get. I chatted with someone who played for several hours and verified that there are no serious changes.
Pros:
+The music is nice for a while
Cons:
-Price point is insane even if this was above average in terms of experience, which it isn't; I hear through the grapevine that Magicweedoo charged that much because it took them a long time to make - bad move and bad rationale if that is the case
-Artwork is almost too sloppy in this one; with Ticket it felt deliberate, and made up for any shortcomings with tons of variation
-The whole thing is a fetch quest that had me bored
-There have been two game breaking bugs, one has been fixed and one has not (I posted a thread about mine in the forums but it went unanswered/unaddressed which is par for the course with my past interactions with Magicweedoo)
A strong pass from me.
