Director of Football Reviews
Football Director is a tough job. Team motivation, training, squad selection ¬ these are just a few of the things that have a direct effect on the result of the match. But the Director of Football does all this plus: take charge of sponsorship, stadium, balance sheets and making sure the team performs in the league.

Pretty neat lil football manager, similar to football games before 2000 (brought memories) ,it's easy to get used to (in fact ,you just need to pay attention),it's simple ,cute, and delivers fun set to choice of user. Not fancy,or too complicated.Beats the crap of other football manager games struggling to deliver same fun.Retro style makes it so very cool. Good job

This comes off as one of those old games which is great if you played it when it was new, but if you have no prior exposure and buy it in 2018 then it's crap.
From what I've seen, DoF is like the old Ultimate Soccer Manager games, which resembled FM but you could also build/improve your stadium and facilities in very specific ways, and you also managed your advertising.
The problem is that it is very hard to figure out what is going on. Even basic things.
One example is your players seem to have 3 categories of abilities (strength, intelligence, and technique). And within those 3 categories, there are 3 specific skills. So technique I think had speed, dribbling, and shooting. You can train speed, dribbling, or shooting. I'm sure each one as an effect in the game. But you can't actually view what a players skills are, only how strong the category is. A player might have 80 technique, but is he slow with a good shot? Fast, but can't control the ball or shoot? Balanced? There's no way to tell.
Some players also have special skills on top of those attributes. I forget what they were now. But there's nothing explaining what those skills are, or how they impact the player.
In fact, playing the game? I couldn't even figure out how to EXIT the game. If there was an x button to close, I didn't see it. esc and f1 didn't bring up a menu. I had to use the task manager to close out.
And in your typical 90's interface style, the game doesn't have drop down menus or things arranged in an easily accessible fashion. There are 4 main buttons which cover 4 broad areas, one is finance, say. And when you click on one of those, there are 4 other buttons you can access in each area. So for finance you might have advertising, stadium building... and 2 other things. I guess what I'm trying to say is that DoF is not set up in a way where you can intuitively access what you need quickly.
If you need a lighter version of FM and don't mind playing older stuff then get yourself a copy of Ultimate Soccer Manager. It is abandonware and a much more intuitive and sensibly put together game than this. And if you still want to buy DoF, keep in mind that this is a 19 year old game and not worth anything like $10. Don't accept less than an 75% off sale.

The UI is horrible and counter-intuitive. It was a game I used to play as a kid though.
