I'm not sure why the description calls this a crossword, because it isn't. Overall, this is a decent word search game, but it has some quirks, and I would definitely wait for a sale or a good bundle. The main problem here is the word selection. Some words are fine, but a lot of the words I was looking for were words I'd never seen in my entire life, or maybe they were abbreviations or acronyms, and I wasn't convinced some of them were English. For longer words this isn't so bad but I got quite a few three letter words, especially on the relaxed levels, which made them a lot harder to find. There's also a weird inconsistency in the way finding words works. On most levels, letters will lose the border around them after you find the word that uses them, and a letter that's used in two words will be a different color to indicate that you'll still need to pay attention to it once that border is gone. I really like this way of doing it, because it means you just have to focus on letters with borders and it really speeds up the finding process. However, sometimes this just... isn't true? A few times I found myself stuck, only to realize I needed to use a letter twice even though it wasn't a different color. I'm still not sure why this happens. If you're going for achievements, it's a bit of a grind. I don't mind because the game really only has one thing to do, and if you keep playing the game you'll get them eventually, but I finished the "main" levels long before I got some of the later achievements, which I imagine could be a deal breaker for some. The main levels are also timed, which I didn't have a problem with, but I did use the hints a couple times later on to avoid redoing the level.

Select the first level, words are RAS, KEX and MOTU Start again, words are LAM, TYTE and WOT Are you kidding me? Using a source dictionary this 'generous' really hurts the game.

A lovely little wordsearch game. I was initially impressed by the options. Not only music and graphics resolution, but different colours for the letter tiles and - fantastically! - a dark background option. A really great addition that I wish more games had. The controls are easy and explained. Click and drag the words you need to find which are in a list on the left of the screen. Various stages unlock more fractals. (Wish I could remember the name of those plastic things you used to have as a kid which enabled you to draw these by hand.) Unlock so many levels and you get an editor where you can mix them. I didn't find the time limit a problem (I unlocked the editor, I'm not sure about higher levels.) A nice game with which to relax. Well worth the money.

Decent word game with a superfluous timer. Feels juicy to play. The control scheme for the game is fun, and so is having the same controls in the menu. Also, the rosettes were pretty. Slight misgivings: ESC cancels out of the entire three-stage level, so you have to do it again; and the game absolutely hates alt-tab. And the game features some offputting play-forever achievements.

A simple and fun word search game. Games can be played in timed or relaxed modes - both which are a lot of fun! There have been a few bugs, but the developers are very responsive and keen to address things as they come up. Would like to see definitions for the words in-game. Overall, if you like word searches, I'd recommend giving this game a try!

5/10 Basic Word Search trying to be artsy. What is it: A Word Search game, with randomly generated puzzles of varying sizes, and parametric curves as the reward for finishing each level. Word Search in itself is a basic game, something good for children to learn new words, spelling, observation skills... So there isn't much to demand of this type of game, yet it felt disappointing. First, the words to search are too obscure, short 3-4 letter words like cam, dui, swy, rax, firk, and then some longer words of equal obscurity, like haleru, nepits, skellochs, rhinoliths, which, as far as my internet searches turned up, are probably real words, but either archaic, very technical, foreign, proper names, or all of these. Which isn't necessarily bad, but then I would really have liked to have a definition for them. Second, the campaign mode is timed. For almost all of the levels that wasn't an issue for me, but I have an innate skill for noticing words, and a lot of practice with wordsearch games, and I still had to restart a handful of levels, because at some point you get stuck looking for 8 3-letter words in a 15x15 grid. Which led to my third dislike, even in campaign mode, the levels are totally random. Restarting a level doesn't show the same grid, but a completely different one. So, zero effort in designing levels? Fourth, the achievements are a scam, after barely having the patience to finish the 32 campaign levels I'm supposed to play another 1000 random levels to get an achievement? To finish with the Words part of the game, the controls aren't that good. Every action requires selecting the whole word, not just a simple click, so quitting actually requires selecting "Q U I T", twice! Sometimes one of the words is a prefix of the other, so you must be careful not to accidentally select the shorter one where the longer one is, or you'll get stuck with an unsolvable board. Then there's the Rosette part of the game, which in theory is nice, beautiful kaleidoscope / spirograph animations unfurling when you finish a level, plus the ability to combine two different rosettes into a new creation of my own. In practice, they're not that good, and I got bored of having to watch the animations after each stage. And I'm also expected to create 100 combinations on my own to get an achievement! What I think would improve the game: * put some effort into designing proper levels for the campaign, with different themes * add a word frequency (popularity) bias when selecting words for the random levels * remove the 1000 relaxed and 100 rosettes achievements * add a definition for words, or a link to see the definition in a dictionary * make the UI navigation faster * speed up the rosette animation, and make a single click enough to skip it, instead of 2-3 as it is now How hard is it: It's a word search, depends on how good you are at this kind of game. The fact that most of the words are 3-4 letters long, even in a huge grid, and the words are so obscure and rare that you can't rely on your word recognition skills to spot them quickly, and you also have to race the timer, it is a bit hard. How long is it: 32 campaign levels with 3 sub-stages each, plus infinite random "relaxed" levels of your choice of size between 6x6 and 15x15. The campaign takes about 3 hours to finish. Level design: It's all random, with words selected from a dump of all words known and unknown with equal chance, so there's absolutely no level design. Quality: Not that good. No level design, bad interaction, too much cruft between levels, boring music, achievements that require you to spend way too many hours playing random bad levels. Worth the price: No, maybe with a 50% discount or in a bundle. Most positive aspect for me: It's a Word Search, and I sometimes like to relax with something like that. Most negative aspect for me: The words to look for are too random.

It doesn't appear that many people on Steam have played this game, but, at its core, it is a word search game. Each time you complete a word search stage in Timed mode, you make part of a rosette, and you end up with a full rosette after you complete each of the three word search stages that comprise the parts of each rosette. The rosettes can be combined using an editor (once you unlock it), and this gives you the ability to create a variety of different aesthetic designs. You have the ability as you progress in the game to play in Relaxed mode, which is entirely word searches of different board sizes (your choice), and it is relaxed as opposed to being under a time limit. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy word searches, and it is well worth the $2.99 (plus whatever the tax is in your region) in USD. The music is relaxing and unobtrusive for the most part, and it is a nice complement to the game as a whole. This is not a disparaging comment, but I didn't need the addition of the rosettes in the game to enjoy it. I used the rosette editor to pick up a few achievements, and I don't intend to use it again; others may enjoy this part of the game. I will close by saying that I will keep playing this game until I reach 100% achievements, and that should take me quite a bit of time beyond my current 6.3 hours on record. It's a great game to play for a short interlude between other activities, or even longer if you feel like doing many word searches during a given session.

Pretty straight forward word find game. It's good, I like it but I don't like the long grind they added to finish acheivements. Make bigger word finds or do something original but don't just make it a grind to make it challanging. Other than that I liked it.

rosette and words is a simple but elegant crossword/word-finding game. there are 32 timed levels, 3 unlocked at a time, each with 3 stages, and if you quit, next time it'll continue on whichever stage you left, which is excellent, and since boards use random words from a huge dictionary, every attempt will be different. diagonals are accepted, colored letters can be used more than once, and each word earns a bit of extra time. collected letters serve as currency to buy various hints. completing 16 levels unlocks relaxed mode. no timer there, but one type of hint can still be used, and board size can be set as well. initially it's only between 6x6 and 10x10, but as soon as you run into a bigger one in the 'campaign', it unlocks in relaxed, up to 15x15. rosettes (animated flower-like drawings) show up after each stage, but they can't be skipped with a single click, only sped up a little. the rosette editor unlocks after 8 levels, where you can mix and match ones unlocked in the campaign, but it's 100% pointless. the presentation is excellent. nice-looking minimalist graphics, very good music, non-annoying sound effects, and it plays really well with the mouse. separate volume settings, resolutions, windowed mode, a few color settings and dark mode are available. definitions at the end of each stage would add a lot. most words are pretty obscure and might as well learn something while playing a word game, but nobody's gonna google everything. word categories in relaxed mode would also be nice, though everything is stored in simple text files, one for each length between 3 and 12 letters, so it's easy to create custom dictionaries at least. honestly, I didn't expect the game to be this good. it's fun to play, though mandatory timed levels at least initially do add some stress to the mix, and unlocking relaxed mode could make all sizes available immediately, but it's a good package wrapped nicely and sold at a reasonable price.
