Sad farewells... The fate of mankind... As well as my own destiny... I don't think any of this was set in stone. If I'd had a strong will to protect this world from the beginning... Then maybe I could've accomplished something no one else could. That's what I think. Which is why... Which is why, from here on out, at least... I'll live on, and survive... and try to protect all of this. I want to protect this abandoned world to the very end. That's what I want. Those who've been left behind... All the memories that remain... And... the woman I love... I'll protect them with all my life. There must be something I can still do. I know I have the strength to do that much. Mankind isn't going to lose. We'll never, ever lose. Not while I'm here... Not while I'm... still here...

While I selected the recommended for other players option, I'd say that you have to have experience reading VN's before you get into reading the Muv Luv Trilogy. It is not a VN you should start out with, because of the time investment it takes to finish Extra and Unlimited. However, I will say that I enjoyed it from having prior experience of reading VN's, and enjoying the place that Muv Luv carved in VN history. Without further ado, here's my review on both parts. Spoiler free of course! MUV LUV EXTRA: Muv Luv Extra is simply put, a Rom-com VN, that if you so choose to install the 18+ Patch that overhauls the Steam censors, does have some sexual content/payoff near the end. It has unique routes for each heroine, and a unique plotline for them to resolve. It is also incredibly long. From my reading speed alone, it took about 20-40 hours to clear through Extra and all of its routes. When others say this part of the VN does not respect your time, they truly mean it. There's A LOT of content, and while it's mainly gag focused or romance focused, there's a lot. I'd honestly recommend just chipping at it instead of trying to blitz through it all in one day. Stake-wise, it's not always high stakes beyond the stakes involving love, romance and the misunderstandings that come with that, but beyond that, it's not something to expect a very serious plot from. With that said, it's relatable at times, and does have good emotional beats and/or moments. Hard to choose between Meiya or Sumika tbh, but Miki has a very underrated route, and most people skip it. Give it a shot, you'll like Miki more in Unlimited with that added context. Rating for the average joes perspective: 5/10 Personal Opinion: 6/10 MUV LUV UNLIMITED: Muv Luv Unlimited, is definitely a step up in terms of stakes, story and conflict. It's necessary to finish Extra first before you can access Unlimited, and Extra does serve its purpose of characterization well, as it helps give life to the characters, and put into context actions done in Unlimited. The characters are entertaining as ever in Unlimited, and I found myself able to consistently sit myself down and read multiple episodes a day because of the episodic nature of the VN being done well with the new premise of Unlimited. Romance is still there, and it's given moments to shine for each girl, and feels mostly realistic for what it is. However, for Unlimited to feel complete, you need to read Alternative, and I haven't read it yet from the time of this review, so I can' definitely say it's a solid 7, but an alright 6.5/10. Average Joe's perspective: 5.5/10 Personal Opinion: 6.5/10 Overall, it was a very fun and enjoyable VN, even if it was hard to read through Extra due to its length, but it'll pay off because I'm already this deep into the VN. Do not play this as your first VN, but treat it more like a fifth or seventh VN series to read. It shouldn't be high priority, especially so if it's not your cup of tea. P.S. Meiya best girl

It is needed to play muv luv alternative. It's very good in my opinion, but you should like romcom VNs if you want to enjoy this.

This game includes Muv Luv Extra and Unlimited but I've only finished Extra and so this review is just for that part of the game. I will update my review after finishing Unlimited but I just have to let anyone that is thinking about buying this game know my thoughts. Story: 5 The first part of this game is PAINFUL to get through. The creator doesn't respect your time at all everything that was said and done could have been done to a better effect in half the time it took to finish Extra. There is a part in the middle where they are going to play a game of Lacrosse and the game as it does several other times comes to a complete halt just to introduce Lacrosse to you. It will explain all sorts of rules and so on about it and it takes forever! There are very few moments that actually make you feel something and the humor lands maybe half of the time. The two main love interests are Meiya and Sumika I personally enjoyed Meiya's route more it felt like the MC actually had some real growth at the end and you get a glimpse of what I think the future games probably can bring to the table. Art: 8 The sprites and scenes all look very nice and can be pretty immersive at times. I didn't enjoy the chibi scenes or the scenes where they use child like art for things like the houses etc. Also incase you are wondering I don't think it's necessary to get the 18+ patch I don't think it really ads much to the game you will not lose out on much and depending on your taste you may actually like it more without it. Choices: 8 I actually do like the options you get and your choices at least within the first game do matter and change quite a few things. You cannot see everyting in one playthrough.

This is an enjoyable visual novel series that starts off with cute and beautiful girls that gets darker and more disturbing with the following subsequent entries. This series certainly ended up surprising me with how deep and mature the themes get. Highly recommend. Probably the best visual novel (series) I've read since Fate/Stay Night, and I would highly recommend checking out the Remaster of that as well. You definitely should read it to really get the nuances of the original portrayal of the characters.

It's a slow burn but it's definitely worth it. Extra can drag on a bit but I really do think it's worth it if it clicks with you, the payoff as you go to Alternative has a great impact in my opinion.

This was a truly awe-inspiring game, I really enjoyed the *checks notes* 20 hours of anime girls playing lacrosse.
