The Legend of Bean is a rather good RPG/adventure game on the RPGMaker format.
Not quite innovative, especially the storyline, but with a fair gameplay. At no point I felt lost like not knowing where to head to.
I appreciate that after the main quest is completed you can still travel through the whole game world in order to defeat other bosses and eventually get a 100% achievements.
I don't care if the grammar isn't perfect, I'm not expecting the same language level as in a book. Dialogues are perfectly understandable and that's enough for that kind of games.
As far as language is concerned, I only regret that the achievements descriptions are not translated but most of them are story related and the others can be obtained by beating all the bosses. That's all you need to know. And at worst one can still use online translations !
Considering the price and the hours of entertainment the game provides, I do recommend it !

The story isn't something special, just the basic good guys vs.
bad demon, who got unleashed by another bad guy
.
Compared to the Sequel it has a better combat system since it's actually challenging as you need to have quick reflexes.
The English translation is better as well albeit still not that good.
What's nice though is that you have a few more bosses after you finish the story. Though with the basic strategy they aren't really difficult, but rather time consuming (the strongest took me about half an hour without max. level).
Overall like the Sequel nothing you have to have played, but nice enough to pass time with.

RPG Maker strikes again!
"The Legend of Bean" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction.
As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development.
Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers.
There's a painfully generic, badly translated anime fanfiction associated here as you need to escort the developers waifu/imaginary girlfriend around the place, or whatever. The writing iis crap, the way the RPG Maker assets were flipped is bad.
The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 7 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.
It's important to note that, despite this being such a low quality product, there's a number of positive reviews that all appeared several years at the same time, from suspiciously inactive Steam accounts that have reviewed almost no other games apart from this, all in Simplified Chinese and all the reviews happened on the same day, after zero activity on the game for years.
On a purely unrelated note, recent US FTC rulings mean that review manipulation and fake reviews are now federal crimes. Interesting, isn't it? Regardless... take the review score of this game with a grain of salt.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
"The Legend of Bean" is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. Gamers who want a good retro JRPG experience would be better off playing the originals, like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

I'm hating how many negative reviews I'm writing lately. This game was not made by someone who is English and I don't fault that against them. However the difficulty curve in this game is bizzarre. Plus I'm not sure what the developer wanted you to do, but this game has an inordinate amount of money grinding for gear in it. And it gets ridiculous pretty early on. This is compounded by the fact that this gave has an ATB system which I haven't seen in RPGmaker before. However this is bad since there's no like 'wait' mode, and unlike you which has human faults and reaction times, the AI doesn't in this game. Which becomes very obvious later on when you have to do split second reactions to get the moves off in the right order.
Also as a side note something that RIDICULOUSLY pissed me off is that one of the minions to the main bad guy is a cross dressing incubus. However since apparently NO ONE KNOWS WHAT AN INCUBUS IS, the developer calls him a succubus. Succubi are female, incubi are male. There is a difference! Alas I stopped playing at the final boss since I ran out of revives during the fight and he KO'd my healer. One of the few interesting things about this game is that you only have a 3 man party instead of the typical 4. AVOID THIS GAME.

I bought this game after playing its sequel Adventure of Magical Girl. I gave that game a positive review but I cannot give this game one. The combat system is some odd timer based turn system, but you don't get to take your turn when it starts, if you aren't quick, enemies are hitting you while you're trying to select your abilities. This lead to me just spamming the space bar, you can imagine how much fun I was having.
There's really not any redeeming qualities, other than a chuckle from the translation errors, but not really.

This game is just barely good enough to meet my standards and isn't any better than some of the free games that are available. I tried playing for just a few minutes and the enemies were doing way too much damage, and it was taking all the gold I earned in battles to buy more potions to heal me. It looks like a little bit of grinding might be necessary at the beginning of the game to get stronger. I have lost interest in the game after just a few minutes, and probably won't come back to it until I am really bored.

This is an amusing little RPGMaker game. It is made by Windward Birds, who appear to be of Chinese origins. I mention this, since the translation can be... spotty in areas. Other than that, it is a very decent game, fun plot, interesting characters, and the combat system is... different. Literally, there is a clock winding on the side, determining when your characters can act. It will not wait for you to make up your mind...
It is worth its price.

Not the worst RPG Maker game I've ever played, but not something I'd recommend either.
The story is pretty basic, starting with two kingdoms fighting against each other, while two broke mercenaries are hired to escort a princess to her kingdom. I want to say it takes off from there, but it never even landed since as soon as plot is introduced, its wrapped up. What's going on with the war between the two kingdoms? The game doesn't care. Why was the princess kidnapped to release a demon lord? Never explained. Everything just happens with no rhyme or reason. It feels like this was made by someone that liked those stories from other RPGs/JRPGs but had no idea how to actually write a good narrative.
And that leads in to its next short coming. The characters have no personality. It's not that there's no depth, or any growth, they simply have no, well, character. Yes, I have said the characters have no character. They exist to make unfunny jokes or to fit some kind of stereotype. This hurts the game a lot as there's a part where after the rescue of the princess, she attends her father's funeral and there's even an art of her crying over her father's casket. It was obviously put there to elicit a certain kind of emotion, but it fails because no one wanted to slow down and flesh out her character, or any of the others.
The map seems to have a bit of work put into it, but its lifeless. There's NPCs, because of course there would be, but they're mostly there just to feel the space. Those that have dialogue mostly add nothing to the world around them. Even when the King dies, nothing changes from any of them. There was one here and there that I think were supposed to aid you, but it didn't really matter. An example is when we get to the first town/city/kingdom/whatever. I went around, explored the area, and discovered an old man who talked about a crack in the wall heading toward the castle. That's how you're supposed to get in when the Knights won't let you into the castle to get payment from the princess for protecting her (despite them seeing her brought there by your characters, but that's a narrative issue). This would be a good way to hint at where the player is supposed to go. But it doesn't matter, because the creator decided to hold the player's hand and put directional arrows, making that information the player found on their own pointless.
I think the only good thing I have to say about this game is the battle system. It's a timer-based system that once one of the party members gets to the top, an action can be taken. But you need to be quick to act because the enemies don't stop and wait for the player to move. And I honestly enjoyed that. I had to stay on top of everything, or else it could have been game over. What I didn't like were the bosses that were stupidly tanky and were more time consuming than actually difficult. I beat the game a little over the five hour mark, a good forty-five minutes of that being the last boss who would heal a good ten-to-twelve thousand HP. It doesn't get better from there, as to get the Boss achievements (as I have no idea how to get the ones that just symbols) I need to fight the optional bosses. I'm level ninety-six, best equipment (to my knowledge) and it still takes around thirty-to-forty minutes to beat one boss because they have ridiculous amounts of health. It's at the point I don't think this was play tested.
TL;DR - The story is rushed. The characters are mouth pieces without identity. The world, while looks nice, is lifeless. The battle system is unique and keeps the player in the fight, but the battles can take so long it's ridiculous.

The legend of bean is a cute rpg/jrpg game by Windward_Birds, the graphics and sounds are what you come to expect from an RpgMaker game, not bad, its has been done well, it does have some problems there though, the sound does cuts out now and then.
Along with the sound i came across 1 other problem in the game, that was sometime you would find an npc, in your way and you could not get past them, which was easy sorted, you would just leave that area through a door close by and re-enter and the npc will have moved.
The combat is fast paced, the npc's dont wait for you they will just take their turn when it comes up, so be per-pair to be quick on those fingers. Oh yeah and watch out for those pesky speeders, yep you heard me right, speeders. You will find some npc's racing around the screen at break-neck speed, if you want to get past them just hit 2 button in the direction you want to go to speed ur self up
The story is the usual fair of an jrpg, so dont be expecting anything ground breaking, but saying that it was a good story
So is the game worth buying?, well yes it is, its has a nice story, graphics and sound, what shines in this game is the fast combat and the game only costs 2 pounds or 3 dollars, i give this game a solid 7.1/10

This is a pretty fun, super basic jrpg kind of game. Half the fun is the absolutely ATROCIOUS translation. I mean its really bad, but in a hilarious way and its not quite bad enough that you dont know whats going on.
