Game is too short and kinda empty with not much to do. Tries to say you can explore but there's not much to explore and you'll need to come back later with upgrades in order to 100% it. The design was also very lazy as they couldn't even bother with animated cut scenes but instead used still images of the 3D renders as if it was a rough story boarding for later 3D animation. Gameplay is very simple and game isn't too hard to understand. It is entertaining, though a bit hard to control. I guess if the target audience is supposed to be kids the difficulty is right but some times I couldn't tell if it was hard because it spiked or hard because the controls are a bit off. Was a bunch of missed chances to make this game better as even though it plays with the Pikmin concept of commanding minions it is extremely simple and doesn't really do anything creative with it. Given the universe and characters this would of been better off as a 3D action platformer rather than watch tiny army of monsters fight for you. You play as Mavis or Drac depending (There's nothing to unlock character wise either you can just pick at the get go who you wanna play.) and given the fact they are vampires and are shown in film to have a wide array of powers I don't know why one would choose to use minions to control instead of the characters themselves. Also the game is easy to get lost in and forget where you've already been on each island, wasting time. Did I mention there's a timer? You are stuck with 10 minute playtime periods for each "night", and the game doesn't challenge you to spend that time wisely as the night system seems to be nothing more than a different type of scoring system. You do not have visual health or hitpoints, and with regards to getting lost, you cannot check a map or a mini map, or even a compass, to let you know where you've already been and where you need to go next. You just sorta wander around until you find where you needed to be eventually. My complaints aside I can't say I feel I've wasted the money or say that I'm not having fun because the game is decent for what it is, just underwhelming at the most because there's so many flaws that can be pointed out and lots of things that could have been improved on but were not. They do keep the characters in character and it's a nice little continuation from the 3rd movie's storyline as this is portrayed as a side story on their way back from their adventures in HT3. If you're a fan of the movies, given there's not many game options out there, this game will do for now and satisfy a need to play in the movie universe. I'm tempted to add, "wait for the game to go on sale", but It is already around a $20 game average, and given the fact it's pretty well made for what it is/does, I'd say that price is reasonable because making games these days isn't cheap. Though at the same time, that low price could be why the game isn't as good as it could be. :/ Anyway, if you're looking for a fun pikmin like game, this ain't it chief. IF you're a fan of the movies and just want more to mess around with for the universe and characters, then this is a decent investment of your money and time.

hotel transylvania is like a bad overlord game though it's still better than fellowship of evil. you get little impas that you make attack things or carry stuff for you. there is a target that you move around and you can throw a impa to the target or tell all of them to go to that spot to attack or pick up whats there. you also get a recall but you need to move the target near ones you want to recall also doing this over ones carrying something will drop it to come to you. you'll play as drak or mavis but there is no difference outside how they look. i don't think they can die but the impas can and once you lose all of them you'll need to go back to the ship because the vamps don't have any attacks. there are only 3 islands and the only thing you collect are treasures and gems that will give you a larger impa pool though you can only take so many with you 10-30. there is also a time limit of 10min (it can be upgraded to 12.50 => 15). all interaction points do stay and enemies do not always respawn when you have to leave/comeback but the system is annoying. you can replay as many times as you wish so it's main purpose seems to be padding play time and eating gems you didn't turn in. minion's/impa's there are 4 types and they will unlock as you find your friends. you'll get a new one on each of the 3 islands. the 4 types are: vamp-impa (these can fly and can lift up ramps), wolf-impa (these dig out dirt walls but will follow yellow cent clouds made by plant's. if you throw them all into a pile they will stay there so you can kill or block off the plant), frank-impa (theres can be thrown to break metal objects and they can push the metal crates, they also count as 2 impas on pressure plates). finally there are mumy-impas (they make sand bridges and will bounce off walls when thrown). if you're here it's because you like this franchise and i feel it's only enjoyable to these people or people who like overlords. sadly even for these people the games not very good. it's basically a kids game though some of the bosses can be challenging. you'll spend more time gathering gems and getting reset do to the time limit than you will beating the levels. i know there are not many games like this so if you feel you need to get it wait for a sale because this is not worth $25.

Is this movie franchise still going or I suppose, more accurately, does it make any money? I ask because the opening cutscene is just character voices over a slideshow; not even an animated cutscene in a movie license game of an animated film. Aside from that, this is a basic Pikmin game, but it feels like it lacks heart, so probably more that Overlord: Fellowship of Evil which took a good game design and made it feel bad and lifeless; like a lot of clones of better games, this just makes me wish I could play Pikmin on PC, if you really want to do that as well, this is probably deep sale bait 50% or more. Below the horizontal sideways thumb, mainly because it feels unpolished and bland but not trash, just bland. Possibly the best part is there is an Achievement called 'Massive Damage' which you get by killing a stunned crab, so this game is going for some ancient memes. Don't know if it is sadder remembering ancient memes or putting them in your game, that is up to philosophers. Shift-Tabbing into the Steam Overlay also makes the gameplay freeze, you can still bring up the menu and it allows you to select things as if it will actually respond and send you back to the Main Menu and what not, but it doesn't, it just keeps playing the music loops while you consider the worthwhileness of spending full price on a movie license game in this day and age, I deserved that.

Didn't enjoy this at all. Was nothing what I expected it to be and it was boring, sometimes even too challenging when your imps die on stupid things and you are left out with none. Time limit ruined exploring which was only enjoyable thing in this abomination.
“I do not say blah blah blah!” ~Drac
OK, now this one came as a pretty big surprise to me. I mean, I love games based on movies and TV shows. When I was a little kid, pretty much every big movie had its own video game. From Star Wars and Indiana Jones to Alien and Halloween. We had it all. Of course, not all of such games were equally good (take Gremlins 2: The New Batch from Motivetime Ltd., for example), but many of them were pretty awesome. Games like Alien for Commodore 64, Batman for the NES, Dune 2 for DOS and, of course, millions and millions of games based on Disney's animations are still among my most favorite ones. Heck, many of such games are criminally underrated. Like Terminator 2: Judgment Day for the NES, the original Dune for DOS and Gremlins 2: The New Batch from Riedel Software, which was totally different from Motivetime's game and was, like, open world gremlin fighting simulator in Clamp Center. And all that is... kinda sad, really. I mean, partially it's because people just don't want to dig deeper than their mainstream AAA stuff, but partially it's because all of those “angry” youtubers who get views by badmouthing pretty much everything they can and therefore creating a very bad reputation for a certain kind of entertainment. Personally, though? I miss such stuff a lot. Like... a lot. All of those games were like part of our experience with the title we ended up liking. Leaving the theater, full of soda and popcorn, and going straight into the nearby store to pick up some comics, posters, soundtracks, T-shirts and, if you're lucky, a video game to continue experience the movie at home? It just felt way too awesome. And don't even let me start talking about those awesome coin-op games... Like I said, I really miss all that. Miss movies to be... you know. More than just movies. Because nowadays, even though technically, this kind of games still exist, usually, it's just a mobile crap. Like that f2p city building nonsense based on Moana (“You're welcome” my butt!) And that's why this game came as such a surprise to me. See, it's actually... a very good game. Even though Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation was the worst movie in trilogy, it sure had the best merchandize. No idea why, it just did. So, I wasn't really surprised about the fact that it got its own video game adaptation. What's surprising here is the fact that it turned out to be... a Pikmin clone. Yep. You heard that right. We've got Pikmin clone... based on Hotel Transylvania 3. Mind blown. The fact that this game is a Pikmin clone? That fact alone is more than enough to get your attention. I mean, let's just admit it, we never had enough of such games. Sure, we all know the Overlord series, a lot of us are probably also remember the original Little King's Story (which was, like, the very best thing since the original Pikmin) and its arguable “sequel”, some nerds like yours truly would probably even remember stuff like Eco-Creatures: Save the Forest for Nintendo DS, but seriously, that's pretty much it. Like I said, we never... had... enough... Pikmin games. So, having a new one? It's a good thing just because. Just because there are literally no alternatives around. But OK, let's pretend you never played Pikmin (even though if you didn't, you should seriously consider to stop reading this and order yourself a copy from eBay, the game is a bloody masterpiece). What is it? Well, it's some sort of mix between third-person action, consoles-oriented strategy where you control a certain amount of units (Cannon Fodder anyone?) and Zelda-like exploration. You explore the world and discover some little creatures (in Pikmin those were called... well, Pikmin, while here those are called Impas). You can use them to attack the monsters (by simply throwing them, since personality, you don't have any weapons and therefore can't do any damage), but there's actually more. See, there are different kinds of creatures. And every kind has its own powers and weaknesses. And that's where Zelda part comes in. Remember how acquiring the new item used to give you access to the new areas that you were unable to access before (well, at least in times when series didn't become an open world time killer yet that is)? That's pretty much it. You get the new kind of Impas – you can access the new areas that were previously locked for you. Unfortunately, that's also where I should mention the worst thing about this game. See, since clearly, nobody here aimed for anything big... there isn't much here to do, really. The only two things you can find in this game are so-called Imparite stones to produce more Impas (again, you're absolutely helpless without Impas and monsters will kill them quite often) and treasure chests. You will want to find as many chests as possible since those are used to level up your Impas and get some other advantages, but all in all, that's pretty much it. Even though this game would instantly get pretty much any Pikmin fan hooked, it's not nearly as big and complicated as the games I've mentioned above. It's like... Pikmin Light, really. Which doesn't mean that it's bad. Exactly the opposite. I'm pretty amazed by having something like this nowadays. And if you have kids who aren't ready for Pikmin yet (like some other games from Nintendo, it's way harder than it looks), this game is a pretty cool way to introduce them to the genre. If you won't try to skip all the treasure chests, Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard will be a pretty relaxing experience. Even the timer here exists only because it's hard to imagine a proper Pikmin game without it. Good ol' Drac (who never say “blah blah blah”) is not Captain Olimar and none of your favorite characters from animated movies would die from oxygen poisoning here. Don't worry. Talking about characters, by the way. We didn't get the original cast from animated movies, but still, voiceover in this game is pretty solid and won't disappoint you. For example, Mavis here is voiced by Melissa Sturm who played SmurfJade in Smurfs: The Lost Village and Smurfette in The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow. Nice. The only real bad thing I can say here is the fact that two Steam achievements are appear to be broken. But aside from that? Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard is a great present for those who love both Hotel Transylvania and Pikmin. The fact that it's so overlooked in Steam is just... sad. Seriously, according to SteamDB, I was, like, the only one who played it in about a year. Like... what the heck? So yes, I totally do recommend it. Don't expect much, because, like I said, it's a pretty basic thing, but honestly, a pretty solid Pikmin clone for casual players? It's a great achievement. Dixi.
