Good product but way too complicated for nothing, the company tutorials are bad and i mean really bad(teacher here), also don't buy it from steam or you will get screwed if you want to use their substance source library that is only available if you pay by subscription(new Ponzi scheme by tech software). My recommandation is try Quixel (careful since these guy's are not developing this anymore)suite if you want a faster approach. I own both and i find myself using Quixel a lot more due to it's intuitive workflow on the other hand substance designer nodes are like a secret conspiration thing where a lot of OVERSIZE EGO ARTIST(+1 if Art station came to your mind) hide the .sbs to make sure they are the only one who can sell their crappy wanabe tutorials or half finish lazy materials.

The software is good. But they sold sold their souls to Adobe. Get 2019/2018 versions now as future versions will likely be tucked away behind unaffordable, anti-indie, and shitty Adobe cloud based licensing systems.

Great tool! The Steam version is more afforrdable and surely worth buying, even though it has some minor drawbacks as broken extension icons. Believe it or not, but it is capable of creating everything starting from a tileable stonewall texture to a salad leaf. Love it.

Substance Designer is must have software for texture makers. It is also quite easy to learn. Great tool for game developers! I really recommend it.

Honestly the best texture/material creation app out there, accessible to even non-artists as you don't need to be able to paint anything. Heartily recommended

Substance Designer is a powerful tool for creating textures that can be imported into game engines and applications for 3D modelling and animating. There is a steep learning curve and even the basic tutorial is overwhelming, but the results you can achieve are amazing, particularly if you are aiming for realism.

Well for me the price isn't really worth it as I just want to create some assets for an copyleft open source game. But coming from GIMP for making textures -which I rarely do- this is an upgrade that makes me wanna make textures.
It's easy and fairly intuitive to use. If you have a basic workflow in GIMP you would just create nodes for each step you did in GIMP to let it create the texture for you and inserting steps way to the beginning instead of redoing all over again.
But yeah the price is pricey.
There should have been some kind of cheaper version(40-60$) with restrictions like 'only for non-commercial use' with the option to upgrade at any time.
I recommend though because I still feel like it worth it and they put some deep thought into it making it a really handy, good software after all.

This is an upgrade of the previously known "substance designer 6", before sh*tstorming allegorithmic for making a new version each year, first realise that they offer you to use the software forever, they just stop updating after a year. Hey they gotta eat too.
I could go over all the things i've enjoyed about this software, but the fact that i keep upgrading means i personally find it really useful.
This is an easy YES for me.
