This game is honestly one of the scariest games I have played. I have only recently delved in to the depths of horror games because to be fair, I scare quite easily but this is like no other! Every little audio sound and visual effect had me jumping out of my skin and the ouiji board, I will not go near them in real life so when I first used it in the game I was extremely apprehensive. Bad things? I've only played this game for 90 minutes so far and the biggest downside of the game is that it's not exactly clear what you need to do. I kept dying and not realising that in order to get better equipment you have to survive by gaining points then leaving in the car. I only found this out by watching another YouTuber play it after my stream which I ended early as I couldn't figure out what to do. I also didn't realise you could type questions manually which is a really cool feature and I will be trying that out next time I play "will you subscribe to me?" Gotta self promote my channel to the ouiji board right? I guess the "farming" isn't great, you have to leave and restart the game to bank your points but I can get over that. Overall, an amazing game which now I know what to do, I will be streaming again. I'm looking forward to seeing where this game goes as it is still in early access.

My previous review was glowing because it was in Early Access still and I expected a lot of the rough edges to be worked through. They brought the game to 80% and then walked away from it though. It has received no updates and will not be receiving any updates again. The idea is principally very sound but it plays like a demo more than a full game. The menus are very bad, you have to fail a lot to learn the rules, there are glitches that let monsters catch you through solid surfaces, the customizations are awful, and I was forgiving of those before when they were clearly still actively working on it on the assumption it was just a work in progress it but they've abandoned this project now. It's not horrible as games go but you get what you get at this point and the end result feels like part of one level of what should have been a full game. Every time you escape the site with some paranormal evidence it adds to your running experience total which is used to buy more advanced gear so you're effectively grinding one site with the exact same items in the same locations every time. Jump scares are the bulk of its offering.

Scarier than Phasmophobia. Solo, in the woods, in the dark, trying to escape with enough xp to buy more items. Constant jump scares as your sanity falls. Great game.

man this is a great scary game October 31 2020 UPDATE: It has been officially 2 full years since this game has come out on October 31 2018 and we have not have a single update but a date that telling us on Feb 26 2019 that the full release date of Apparition is in July of 2019 that never came true. No gravity games what is the hold up on this game beside dealing with Covid-19? I want to know because this game is not worth buying for 10 or 5 dollars for this if u only get one night in this game. 1/1/21 UPDATE: R.I.P THIS GAME THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THIS GAME THEY CAN'T JUST GET ONE UPDATE IN. THAT'S WHY I PLAY PHASMOPHOBIA BECAUSE THEY DO UPDATES THEY CARE ABOUT THE GAME UNLIKE THIS GAME THEY DID NOTHING BUT TOLD LIES ON WHAT THEY ARE DOING WITH THIS GAME. IT'S JUST SAD THAT I WASTE MY TIME PLAYING THIS GAME AND PLZ DON'T BUY THIS GAME UNLESS IT'S SELLING FOR $2.60 OR 1.50 BECAUSE THAT HOW MUCH THIS GAME IS WORTH BUYING FOR. 12/20/23 review update: WARNING u will stop playing under 20 hours because u will have felt bored to the game 10/31/24 review update: this game is dead so sad to see it happen

First off left me say I love horror games. I've played quite a few in my life and love them all. Now let me say that this is hands down the only one that has literally made me jump and yell. My smartwatch says that my heartrate goes up when I play this. The sudden noises and hearing things chase you is unnerving. I can't belive this is early access because it is already crazy to play! I can't even imagine what they could add to this! All I know is despite my jumpscares playing this, I haven't really gotten very far at all because I keep getting caught, is that I still play this game! It terrifies me more than the first time I hit the water area in Amnesia The Dark Descent (and I jumped during that part and my keyboard and mouse flew off my desk!) So, I HIGHLY recommend this game to anyone who loves jumpscares, bumps in the night, legit scary games!

I have got to give this game a positive review, because it is so freaking scary! I also love the concept, it's an RPG/roguelike combined with an FPS scare fest. The problem is that the game throws too much at you all at once. there is no strategy allowed if i don't even know what i'm going up against. I think each run should be an investigation into one type of monster (that you determine via spirit board). as it is now its just too difficult, perhaps a random mode (as it is now) could unlock as a new gameplay mode after players become familiar with how each creature acts. as it is now it's like a pizza with everything on it, when most often i prefer a cheese or pepperoni. I only suggest this knowing that all of the content is already in the game, and don't want to come across as someone complaining that there are no pancakes in my waffles.

This game immitates the immersion of the feeling of something watching you out in the woods and leaving you cautious and freaked out. It's like real life when you are afraid to turn around and preysomething isn't behind you. This isn't some psychological BS, it's actual straight up supernatural horror/eerie atmostphere. Other than the atmosphere, I decided to write a review for once to point out a horror game that actually has a way to be replayable and fun. (SPOILERS) The unique idea of earning credits for capturing stuff is really neat and for going back to do it again with freedom of how much you want to do. I pray that this makes it to full game and not remain early access because I don't think this concept has been done before for a horror game.

-Update for 6/2020 -Game appears abandoned. Critical features almost unanimously requested by the community like -turning off the random jump scares- still haven't been implemented. No evidence of activity on the forums since late last year. Avoid this until it's been given a proper treatment. Original review proceeds below: This is excellent. I used to do this spooky stuff all the time back in '01-'03, and this pretty neatly sums up the paranormal investigator lifestyle. You start out broke and ill-equipped, trespassing on private property and scaring yourself witless with every creak and gust of wind. The property you're investigating is comprised of a couple cabins, sheds, and campsites. You earn experience collecting evidence (pics/vids) and talking to spirits with your ouija board. Once the fear is too much you hightail it back to your truck and gtfo. You use the exp gained to bring better gear the next time. Maybe then you start to get really brave and spend time chatting with ghosts or scouring for evidence, and the threat becomes real. The monsters you'd heard about in the scattered lore are now somewhere on the property actively seeking you out. You have to try to document these things without letting them get ahold of you. You'll eventually gain access to a crafting station where you can make traps and totems to use against the monsters. It turns into a deadly game of paparazzi hide and seek. You're trying to draw out the evil ones into your camera equipment and traps while keeping yourself alive and sane. Each creature has a unique behavior you must learn to recognize and exploit. Then you have to make it back to your truck with all your evidence. Really great experience, especially considering it's still developing. Strongly recommend. This brings me right back to my misspent teenage years, chasing echoes down dark hallways and trying to photograph entities in abandoned asylums. If only I'd been faster or smarter, I could have made it out alive with my evidence

Apparition is a game where you're trying to gain score points by doing a ghost investigation. I didn't play very long into this game as I couldn't get into it. There was a lot of issues I encountered that made the game less than enjoyable. I'll list them below. I'm not a fan and I wouldn't recommend it. It was worth a shot. It seems to have potential, but maybe I wasn't understanding the mechanics of the game to fully enjoy it. PROS: * Good atmosphere * Good SFX * Decent graphics CONS: * No tutorial or explanation on how to play (journal doesn't really give you a good clue on what you should be doing) * Going out of bounds is instant kill, but it's hard to tell where the out of bounds are besides a note on the screen * No indication when you go BACK in bounds to a safe area * Scroll wheel to change what equipment you're using seems to be really unreliable. Using the numbers pad or tab inventory would have been better * No explanation of what you need to do * Controller support didn't work (XBOX, 8bit Pro Duo) * Seems like each time you escape you earn points, but no idea what you can DO with those points (besides bragging rights?) * Can't light an area up to use the camera to take pictures (couldn't figure out how to take pictures in dark areas to score points) * No way to run away or avoid enemies/ghosts/apparitions once they have seen you and are chasing you * No explanation on what metal/wood/resources are used for * Ouija board wasn't showing up on screen (was a blank board) At this time I would not recommend this game, however if someone would like to explain how the hell to play this game (cause the devs sure as heck didn't) I'd love to know. https://www.seravium.com https://twich.tv/seravium
