This game frequently crashes without explanation in the middle of levels - often when about to complete a goal.

I've been playing this game on and off since it's original release on Reflexive Arcade; it's the fourth in the series and in my opinion the best of the four.
It's also (in my opinion) one of the best 2D breakouts ever made, with the base game including a couple of hundred well though out level sets to beat as well as lots of ball and bat upgrades. Each bat upgrade includes specific power up's that are guaranteed to drop when playing with that particular bat. Each bat also has a different colour scheme. The brick types range from standard bricks, to various other interesting brick types including ones that allow you to create fancy pictures. You'll find loads of very artful levels by some creators over on the fan site. Many of these brick types are original and I've never seen them in any other breakout ever made (I've purchased hundreds of them since I started to buy computer games back in the early 80's so can attest to that wholeheartedly).
There are three quests included in the game; i.e. Ricochet Infinity, Episode 2: The Delta Quadrant and Galactic Adventures. Episode 2 is locked until you've completed all of the level sets from the first quest. The third quest, is made up of custom made levels that you can add to using the extremely versatile level editor; or, you can download thousands of levels via the fan site Ricochet Universe. When Amazon, who inherited the game from Reflexive Arcade over a decade ago closed down the ability to download custom made level sets directly from the game, fans found a fix which I've linked to below that enables you to download the best of those custom made levels from Ricochet Universe directly from in game again.
Apart from the three quests, there's also a local multiplayer mode called mouse party that includes three modes; i.e. Competitive, Cooperative and Tail Gunner. I(n the former you play against another player, cooperative speaks for itself and the tail gunner sees one player controlling the bat and the other controlling a gun located on the ball.
Fixing Galactic Adventures:
Using a simple fix you can still access thousands of custom levels directly from in game; however, If you don't use the following fix, you will not be able to download custom made levels created by other Ricochet Infinity players directly; however, you will still be able to access the quest if you manually add the level sets to the folder called Rounds, once you've downloaded them from Ricochet Universe.
The fix is accomplished by exchanging the libcurl.dll file located within the games installed folder with one available from Richochet Infinity's fan site (HERE) or via the PCGaming Wiki (HERE). Also you need to open up the Data2.dat file with notebook or another editor, (it's located in the same place as the library file), then remove the old link (i.e www.ricochetInfinity.com that's now dead, and replace it with the Ricochet Universe's url (HERE)

It's a great pity Steam removed Ricochet Infinity from the Steam store almost a decade ago now, and it's also a shame they won't allow abandonware games to be included in their portfolio of games (probably due to the grey legal area abandonware sits in).
If you aren't bothered about having it on Steam, you can now get it for free via some abandonware sites or buy it from Gamefools. You can still add it to your Steam library by using the ''add a non Steam game to my library button'' The abandonware site I found it on always removes the ability to download games once sites like Good Old Games get's their hands on the license; so I suspect Gamefools are selling it without the license; however, I cannot qualify that.
I posted a review of the game over on the gamegiveawayoftheday site (HERE) that links to the free downloads not only for Infinity, but the previous three games as well as for the thousands of levels available from Ricochet Universe. The same thread also describes the fix with links.
There are other breakouts such as Acky's XP Breakout and the now free Breakquest, that give you a comparable game play experience as well as a challenge on the harder modes. All three mentioned include original features not seen in other breakouts and all have stood the test of time; and, despite their age, all still look reasonably decent. I've also posted a thread dealing with other breakouts in the giveaway forums HERE
