Field of Glory II: Immortal Fire DLC

Dlc is of decent quality, What do you get? a bunch of battles, campaigns, new units. is it worth it to fans of the game? Depends, I personally like others were sad to see that no new features were added with the dlc and worse yet the dlc is $15 half the cost of the base game. If you are ok with that and like the base game buy the dlc most of the battles are fun and will give you hours of entertainment, if you dont like the lack of new features I would wait for a a sale. It is also worth noteing that the devs are censoring post that have criticism of the game. I for one find that to be wrong and feel that others have a right to beware of such actions.

This dlc is full of new army lists (30 i think), has 10 historical battles and 5 campaigns. For the amount of content it adds, if you already enjoy the base game it is sooooooo worth it. Theres no new mechanics, but why should there be, that stuff is mainly added in patches. This is just more content for those who already love the game. Personally i prefer the armies to vanilla, but thats because im obssessed with persians and greeks. Overall a great addition to an aready brilliant game!

I've been reenacting Alexander's battles in wargames like "The Great Battles of Alexander" to RTS games like "Total War: Alexander" and this DLC for FOG2 is the one that provided me the most satisfying experience of these battles. Hydaspes was particularly tense and the added "What-if?" campaign of Alexander going west to fight the rising Roman Republic is super fun!

Really good implementation of both the Diadochi wars and the campaigns of Alexander the great! buy it if you like the game.

I RATED Fields of Glory2 one of the best games I have played for many a year.The add on immortal Fire has just made that game even better..PERSIAN EMPIRE, SPARTA, and no ancient warfare game would be complete without ALEXANDER. Epic battles section has most of his big battles, and most of his big wins. If you liked Fields of Glory 2 . For its ebb and flow battles, changing fortunes, depth , and all round great game play. You will love this add on. I Rate Fields of Glory2 and the add on immortal fire one of the best if not thee best game I HAVE PLAYED in turn based strategy. Its almost a return to the wonder years for me, and I am that old. The wonder years of PC Gaming. I will say it again as I did with Fields of Glory 2.... Great game SLITHERINE this game is a credit to your game Developers.

Played a few quick battles and the Seven Hills campaign (Early rise of Rome) and can attest to its quality from what little I could see. My only caveat is there could have been more new soldier models with new/specialised textures instead if using the generic models across the board. Playing early Romans really felt right and then later on experiencing their military reform with hastati, etc., was a real boon. Eager to try the rest thus dlc has to offer.

As with all DLCs for this game, the content is really optional. The base game already has a ton of different units, armies and campaigns, so the DLCs are mostly for those that want even more or that enjoy a particular specific army. Macedonian armies are my favorite ones to play as, so this DLC has been a big positive for me. I also quite enjoyed the Seleucid ones. As for the campaigns, so far I've only played the "What If?" campaign that follows Alexander if he had survived his disease. Quite engaging campaign with some interesting battles.

If you like the base game, this DLC is definately worth the pickup. The Persians are really fun to play as and present a unique challenge since they have a lot of strong archers and cavalry but weak infantry. Sparta is a nice cosmetic addition, while the other armies expand the already excellent content of the base game. Although the $15 may seem a bit steep, I really was pleased with the amount of content in this DLC, especially given the skimpy content of certain AAA title DLC out there; props to the devs for selling a reasonably priced DLC bursting with content. Overall, definately worth a buy. For what it's worth, I've copied and pasted my review of the base game below: If you like historical armies, deep tactical gameplay, and excellent mechanics, Field of Glory II is for you. From the detailed unit models to the in-depth maneuvers on the battlefield, this game has much to offer. You can fight regular battles, play multi-battle campaigns against certain enemies, or fight historical multi-battle campaigns in the shoes of the likes of Caesar or Hannibal. Don't let the deceptively simple tabletop style fool you; it's clear the developers put significant effort and thought into Field of Glory II. Battles require both complexity and skill to pull off a victory; this is not a "throw everybody into a mosh pit and see what happens" level of strategy. Units need to be faced in proper directions to maximize the effectiveness of their attacks. Heavier or unwieldy units such a hoplites or pike phalanxes rotate painfully slowly to simulate their historical inflexibility, while lighter units rotate more quickly but have less combat power. Units have different strengths and weaknesses, but they all can excel in the hands of a competent general. Each army has its own playstyle, from the offensive legions of Rome to the hit and run forces of Parthia to the lumbering spear forests of Macedon. There are a huge number of units and armies (if you own the DLC, there are 105 armies to choose from covering nearly 500 years of history; if you don't own the DLC, no worries; the base game comes with 80 something armies), so there is plenty of replayability. The unit models are detailed and historically authentic, and the army compositions are historically accurate for each period, which is always a great plus. Though the price may seem a little off-putting at first, it really is worth the $30 asking price, and if it goes on sale, it'd be a bargain to pick up. All in all, I cannot praise this game too highly; it really excels in all parts. Highly recommend!

At first, I was worried about a $15 DLC released so near the main game's release. But then I realized the content was more than enough to justify the price and adds a missing piece to the original game. The main game is 'Rise of Rome,' which focuses on the early Empire, more than anything else, but still has a lot of variety. 'Immortal Fire' covers early Achaemenid battles, Greek city-states in the age of hoplites, ALEXANDER (!!), and...the rise of Rome. There are many new 'epic battles,' meaning they are one-off battles with pre-built terrtain (rather than the generated terrain of a campaign battle). This means each battle of Alexander is on more-or-less accurate terrain, and the campaign battles are a what-if of a not-dead-from-debauchery-Alexander's push into Carthage and beyond. Other campaigns center on Xenophon, Phillp II, and the battles of an early Rome fighting fellow Latins and Etruscans. It's a huge, sprawling update that enables players to fight the wars of the Diadochi and more. If you liked the original, you'll love this.

I have over 100 hours now on this game and I am playing in the league. It is tremendous fun. Honestly, the best traditional PC wargame out there. This DLC adds a lot like they all seem to do. 8 new factions including the Persians and the Spartans that are historically important and fun to play on the battlefield. These new armies also introduce new playing styles as the Persians have archer-swordsmen and archer-spears. Spartans have a mass of Hoplites. There are 10 new units such as the Persian Immortals and the Macedonian Prodromoi light cavalry. A lot of bang for your buck! Finally, there are 10 new Epic Battles like Chaironeia and Marathon. These battles are really fun as they are not always perfectly balanced like in the standard mp custom battles and make you play in different ways. A must buy DLC for a must buy game for the wargamer.
